Les Boucles Du Sud Ardèche
img218.imageshack.us/img218/9845/sudarchezera2.png

It’s time for Joker Bianchi’s first race this season. The race is 157 kilometres long. The profile of this race is quite flat, so the sprinters are the favourites.

img132.imageshack.us/img132/5141/sudarchezeprofilef5.png

Joker Bianchi sent following riders to the race:

Alexander Kristoff – Sprinter
Lars Petter Nordhaug – Free role
Ingar Stokstad – Team mate
Stian Sommerseth – Team mate
Ole Haavardsholm – Team mate
Joachim Boler – Team mate
Fabio Duarte – Team mate
Frederik Wilmann – Team mate

When the race started, seven riders went in a breakaway. None were one of the favourites, and the pack let them go.

The breakaway

With fifteen kilometres to go, the breakaway was about one minute in front of the pack. There was an ascent thirteen kilometres to go, and Nordhaug tried to break away – with no luck. He went back to the pack in a few kilometres.

Nordhaug tried to break away

The breakaway was 50 metres in front of the pack when the sprint started.

Kristoff had an excellent position when the sprint started…
img151.imageshack.us/img151/1710/kristoffgoodposbe2.png

But there were three riders that were stronger…
img225.imageshack.us/img225/637/wingp3.png
Robert Radosz won.

It was a big surpise that Kristoff came on fourth with his bad form! He beat famous riders as Uros Murn and Jimmy Casper.

Stage 1
The stage was a tough stage for my riders. The ascent looked too hard for all of my riders, but I hoped to finish in the peloton with at least one rider.

Stage 2

Because a bug appeared, the second stage is exactly the same as the first. All the riders are tired for yesterday’s hard work, so my goal today is to come to the finish in the peloton with at least Duarte.

Stage 3 – The first really hard stage

Today’s stage is really hard, but I hope that Duarte will hold the peloton to the line. The favourites in this stage are Luis Leon Sanchèz, Franco Pellizotti and José Ivan Gutièrrez.

The peloton had a high pace when the ascents startet, and many of my riders fell off.
img58.imageshack.us/img58/6794/kristofffelloffhs5.png
Kristoff fell early off the peloton

In the last of the hills sections midways in the race, Duarte fell off. He came in a group with a lot of Cofidis riders, also the third place Leonardo Duque, and in the last hill, the two groups were together. At this time, Gutièrrez and Pellizotti attacked. No one managed to counter-attack, and they got a good lead.

Stage 4

This stage was also a hard stage. The favourites were the sprinters that were best in hills, so Kristoff was none of them.

The breakaway included Sylvester Szmyd, so the peloton had a fast pace in the beginning.
img516.imageshack.us/img516/7817/breakwithzsmyddyl0.png
Sylvester Szmyd in the breakaway

My riders were very tired because of the fast pace, so when Caisse d’Epargne started to hook up the breakaway, many riders were gone.

Herrero wins his third stage in this race, and his green jersey is assured.

Duarte fell off the peloton, and he nearly managed to get back in the peloton. Nearly.

February done, March and the big races in sight

February is done with good results for Kristoff in Les Boucles Du Sud Ardèche and Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana.

Monthly awards for February

This month, Joker Bianchi will race a very important race for the sponsor – Tour de Normandie. The sponsor confidence is “poor” for the moment, so the riders are training hard to get very good form in this race.

The other races that will be run are Trofej Poreca and Istarsko Proljece.

Trofej Poreca
This race was very flat, and I hoped to get a good place with Kristoff.
img517.imageshack.us/img517/3207/trofejporecade9.png

I sent the following riders to Trofej Poreca:

Nordhaug – free role – attack at the end of the race?
Kristoff – main sprinter
Sommerseth
Vold
Bohler
Wilmann
Stokstad
Gunnerud

When the race started, a three-man-break went away. The riders were that bad that the peloton didn’t need to set a fast pace for getting a sprint finish, but CCC-Polsat wanted to be sure, so they did anyway. The breakaway was caught when there was 40 kilometres to go.

At 15 kilometres to the finishing-line, Nordhaug tried an attack. Stanislav Kozúbek counter-attacked, and he seemed to be much stronger than Nordhaug. The peloton didn’t like the attempts, so the sprint teams paced to a very fast speed.

Kozúbek is a good sprinter, and he managed to win! Nordhaug came on second, that’s the team’s best place this season.
