Add Miguel Ángel Lopez to that list! That guy will be one of the best climbers in the world, wouldnt be surprised if he did top 5 in this years Vuelta!!!
Wouldn't surprise me if he would top-5, even top-3 in this year's Tour. I think he will have a breakthrough this year like Nairo in 2013. |

There are a lot of names already said that I would say, but others can be Neilson Powless, I kinda think everyone forgot him but he also has an insane potential, wont the Tour de L'Avenir TT and did amazing in the Tour of California.
Michael Storer, did 7th in L'Avenir and is currently in Down Under battling Youth and GC.
Also BMC's Kilian Frankiny, Sky's Tao Hart and Orica's Jack Haig and Robert Power without a doubt.
Mark these words, they were first said here |

Adrien Costa is probably your best bet. He rides for Axeon again this year, but has shown insane potential, for example in Utah last year. I'd say he is the most gifted psychically right now.
Then there's also Egan Bernal. Despite Androni got snubbed for the Giro wildcard this year, he will have plenty of races to show off. First year on the road last year, the guy is crazy.
Enric Mas, rode for Fundación Contador, and is a brilliant climber. I have high hopes for him as well.
And of course, David Gaudu. Pure climber from France and beat Bernal and Costa in Avenir.
Waow you know the names to watch. I'll def write them down!
Im probably most intrigued by Bernal myself, he is said have an enormous Vo2max. He rode very well the one time I saw him last year in Trentino as a 19 year old in one of his first races on the road ever! His build reminds me of Michael Rasmussen, he can weigh more than 50 kgs, a pure Colombian climber. |

Allright!! Many good proposals So to wrap up so far, here is your suggestions:
TheManxMissile claims Aidan van Niekerk will win the tour at least 10 times..
Otherwise we have:
Adrien Costa
Egan Bernal
Enric Mas
David Gaudu
Mathieu Van der Poel
Sam Oomen
Domen Novak
Laporte
Miguel Ángel Lopez
Tiesj Benoot
Neilson Powless
Kilian Frankiny
Tao Hart
Jack Haig
Robert Power
EDIT: looking forward to see whether any of these can win one of the major grand tours within the next 10 years!

Australia
As an Australian there are the obvious few of Robert Power and Jack Haig, who should both do very well in GT's in the future (Power is a bit better and more well-rounded). Then there is Michael Storer who burst onto the scene doing very well in TDU and helping UNISA win the Teams Classification. Chris Hamilton, another slightly built climber but he he made the jump to the WT this year signing with Sunweb-Giant. It will be an interesting experience for him riding in the WT, but could be aided by Michael Matthews who also recently joined Sunweb. His brother is another good climber in Lucas Hamilton, who could show more results this year. Miles Scotson is another who has already shown promise in hills and TT's, but with his physique, he could turn into a rider such as Rohan Dennis or perhaps better in the climbing front. Nick Schultz is a Thomas Voeckler type who is a fighter and loves a breakaway, but can climb with the best. Jai Hindley is another talent from Australia finishing 5th in l'avenir overall and enjoyed 2nd in An Post Ras.
Europe
European talents are never far away. Edward Ravasi has been showing his class for a while and will want to prove it, being signed up to the WT for UAE. David Gaudu is a bit of an older rider so I don't read much into him. Tao Geohgegan Hart has been promising for a while now too. Gianni Moscon is also a great talent, who is a supreme all-rounder who can take top 15-10 GT results in the future, but will most likely focus on other terrain, much like Peter Sagan in his youth. Sam Oomen looks good too as well as Ruben Guerreiro who showed his talent in TDU. Hugh Carthy performed well last year and will be looking to continue that with Cannondale-Drapac. Pierre Latour is also another beast of a climber showing his talents in the Vuelta last year. Laurens De Plus is also one to look out for with Lotto Soudal. Kilian Frankiny has been promoted to BMC's full squad after showing his talents in the mountains too. Gregor Muhlberger and Patrick Konrad are two Austrian talents on Bora-Hansgroghe who should be able to make some moves on the mountains this year.Merhawi Kudus and Natnael Berhane are two Eritrean climbers for Dimension Data who have performed well as a domestique in the WT this year, but should get there real chance in the near future. Ruben Fernandez is a bit of an older rider, but is also very good in the hills and mountains shown in the Vuelta taking the red jersey for a day.Davide Formolo is the oldest out of everyone on this list, but finished 9th in the Vuelta last year in support of Talansky. Cannondale will give him more leadership roles and is a promising Italian for the future.
Americas
South America and North America have several talents. Adrien Costa is in the forefront as the young American has shown potential in nearly every race he finished last year. Neilson Powless as mentioned before is a young man who has gone a little bit under the radar. In South America we quite possibly have the most talent. Miguel Angel Lopez is probably the most likely to win a GT in the next 5 years on this list. Won the Tour de Suisse beating a competitive field and also won Milano-Torino. Egan Bernal has been a great rider in his first few years of a professional rider finishing in the top 5 in three stage races last year winning one. As well as these, there are several other talents not being mentioned from this region as well.
This is not a complete list at all, but gives you a view of some of our new young climbers to compete for GT's.

Scotson won't develop into a GT GC type of rider, he can handle hills at the junior level but hasn't shown any aptitude in the mountains so I doubt he heads that way. Schultz is a plucky rider who I could see winning climbing stages in some races but only from a breakaway situation as he isn't good enough to play with the big boys. Haig and Power are both obvious choices to develop into GC types so you are right on the money with those two outside of I think Power will be better in 1 week races, Hindley certainly looked good in last years L'Avenir and gets another shot this season to improve on that performance so will be watching him closely. Storer has a big engine and i'm in no doubt he will end up at Orica next season but don't think he'll be a 3 week GC rider. I also agree that both Chris and Lucas Hamilton look like good climbing types to keep an eye on but haven't demonstrated TT ability yet, I do have to correct you on one thing which is while they share the same last name they aren't actually brothers.

Heck, Konrad is 25 and is older than the oldest rider Formolo (24), as is Ruben Fernandez (25). Actually the oldest is Natnael Berhane at 26! I wouldn't call anyone 25+ a talent anymore. They can all progress yes, but they are not talents and progression is limited outside of doping.

To be fair though, this was all something I thought in my head with not too much thought and did not check too much on it with ages and such. These were just some of the names that popped into my head mainly. I won't have an "African" region as there are only those two real talents and maybe Meintjes, although I will admit I made a mistake with Eritrea. As I said this was a list in which I just thought about last season's WT events and the Tour d'lavenir.

Dane Anthon Charmig is for sure one to watch. He was one of the best juniors in the world, but last season got ruined due to personal problems. However, he is part of the Veloconcept continental team this year - the one that Bjarne Riis and Lars Seier owns. His potential is huge, and as a first year U23 he has to find his older self. He can definitely win the Tour de France in the future being very versatile, but who's to say yet ... he is only 18 years old. |

Interesting, I've heard about him briefly, but nothing more. We also have Simon Andreasen who is an interesting prospect - Ill probably tune in to CX worlds on Sunday to see how well he goes. |

calm down until LottoNL found out they have the strongest GT rider in their team - next GT winner is Primoz Roglic!
for real, I think he has the potential to go anywhere with his physical abilities - the question is how deep he can go into the special needs cycling has...if he mangaes to put everything together (like he did with the TT strength, which came out of nowhere from a climber), I think he can really surprise everyone in a GT
would love to see him in the Giro 2018

Good! He could problaly be big in nearer future but maybe not in 2025? He is 27 but we have seen riders reaching their top late 30s.
