Langkawi Stage 3
Again, a flat stage where we would probably go for the win with Robert 'Waggy' Wagner.
The break moved off in search of a stage victory but with the bunch in a very vigilant mood (they had pulled back three breakaway attempts before one was finally allowed to succeed) I doubted they would get very far.
Doomed?
My predictions were right as they were pulled in with 40 k of the stage left to ride. I had been daydreaming for a while but I was woken by our directeur sportif telling Clement l'Hotellerie to have a dig.
l'Hotellerie on the charge
I was on tenterhooks waiting for information and instructions from the team car. With the peloton riding at an unusually docile pace, a voice came screaming through the earpiece telling me to 'go, go, go!'.
Trying to bridge
I tried to catch Clement and drive to the finish but I couldn't quite reach him and ended up 2nd at the finish. The manager was ecstatic after 3 2nd places and finally a win.
The chequered flag!
A good day as I moved up to 2nd on GC and increased my lead over the climbers.

Would be good to get a stage result list as well as the GC. A good start for Doi though. |

Langkawi Stage 4
Another flat stage!!!
The break wasted itself again. On stages like this I think it's kind of pointless; with some rolling hills or some climbs they've got a chance.
Ng, Saffayet and Low in the break
With the final intermediate sprint in sight and the break back in the pack I spied a chance to steal some crucial bonus second and went on the charge.
Could this decide the tour?
I swept up the three seconds on offer and the sprint points to steal some extra GC places.
Clement gave Waggy an outrageously strong leadout and gave him a great set up for the sprint with 3k to go.
l'Hotellerie has only Wagner in his wake
With Clement still leading with 1k to go but fading fast Waggy jumped on the left-hand side of the road.
For the victory?
He showed his sprinting prowess by leaving the rest out of his slipstream and he stormed to the win!
Two stages for Skil-Shimano
Rob was ecstatic after the victory and was almost kissing Clement for such a superb lead-out (he is an amazingly strong rider). Clement faded to 11th showing how much energy he put in after leading out for 5k!
More bonus seconds for me meant a good day all round for the team.

Tour de Langkawi Stage 5
Another flat stage, the same boring tactics.
I attacked hard and early, aiming for the first sprint and three precious bonus seconds.
In pursuit of glory
I got what I wanted and settled back into the pack.
A lone rider jumped away to try and take the honours.
All alone in Malaysia
I still attacked for the second sprint even though there were only 2 seconds on offer.
Shaving off time
I took them and branded the day a good one, 5 seconds gained on the likely lads for the overall.
The break looked to be the likely winner at one point but soon cracked and fell back into the fold of the peloton.
I was beggining to fade and the days toils were taking their toll on me. But I hung on in grimly, thanks to great help from Thierry Hupond, and managed to stay with the leaders.
Clement led out again and did a fantastic job.
A future star leads a future star
Waggy swept past Clement and into the lead.
Flashing past
He was flying and simply crushed the opposition into submission with the speed of a flat-out cheetah.
Turbospeed
What a superb victory!!!
Wagner wins again
Everyone representing us here in Malaysia is over the moon and these victories have given Waggy a great confidence boost as well as demoralising his opponents. Everythings coming up roses!

Team Bonding
Over this tour I've really made stronger bonds with my team-mates and feel more accepted by them.
Robert 'Waggy' Wagner: My best european friend on the team and I personally think him the teams biggest sprinting talent. He is a wonderful guy; always willing to give his opinion but always willing to accept others. I'm going to train with him a lot this season to increase his endurance and climbing and my top-end speed.
Clement l'Hottellerie: A tremendously talented rider but a bit less open with the rest of the team. He's so closed off that I think there might be something fishy going on there. But don't tell anyone. I would speak out but I dont have any proof and wouldn't want to cause any disruption in the team, especially with my Paris-Nice place at stake.
Floris Goessinnen: Overshadowed by other riders but does a lot of good work behind the scenes. Friendly chap who helped me out financially when I was struggling with rent in June last year. I owe the guy a favour.
Thierry Hupond: A hard worker and a good stage racer to be.
Sanataki Shinawaga: To be a good sprinter, capable of winnig some smaller races, including stages of the TOJ(Tour of Japan). My brother-in-law, I married his older sister, and I hope to be able to help him through a tough first pro season.
I'll give updates like this later in the year when I've raced with other riders in the team.
Piet Hoekstra (Directeur Sportif): A really nice man who passes on lots of racing tips and gave me my first chance as leader in Langkawi this year. He is a very warm person and I feel a special bond with him.

Tour de Langkawi Stage 5
The monotony of these stages are nearly unbearable. Thankfully, Piet wires our earpieces into a radio station so we have something good to listen to. At the moment we're listening to Radio. They have an obsession with the song Rockstar.
Calzati, Ghani and Trafelet jumped away early in the stage, looking for todays spoils.
Bounty-hunters
They quickly built up a lead, working very hard. I thought that maybe they were over-egging it somewhat.
I was feeling comfortable in the pack, who were going at a remarkably slow pace.
The gap built to 15 minutes before starting to drop. But with 60k to go the gap was 11"27. I figured the breakaway would fight it out for the win today.
I still thought that, with 34k to go and the gap at 7"48, the break would stay away. However, I was soon proved wrong. The riders up front cracked and 8k later the gap was down to 3"36. Finally, with 19k to go, Sylvain Calzati was reeled in by the bunch,
Clement provided another superb leadout but this time, with a lot of sprinters tired by a hard chase, I tried to follow the sprinters.
Pulling Wagner to victory
Waggy opened up his sprint early and it seemed to possible that Gottfried might overtake him. I'm in 4th wheel, just out of the picture.
Not unbeatable?
But Rob held on to take a hat-trick of stage wins and, ultimately, the yellow leaders jersey.
Unbeatable!
I'm over the moon with my performance and have taken more precious seconds from the others.

Tour de Langkawi Stage 6
I'm don't have much time to report today as I have big tactical discussions and an early bedtime.
Riblon went from the gun.
He was easily pulled back though and the superhuman Clement lead out again! I chose to try and gain more time by beating the sprinters again as I'm feeling good today.
Waggy charged past early and I tried to get onto his wheel.
Thanks to killing myself to get into his slipstream while he opened a massive gap, I could not be passed.
Waggy took another slice of glory along with the points jersey and lead in the season victories ranking while I hung on to second.
Live reports tommorow!

I also enjoy the story, though it seems to me that you should really take a tougher level... It should be an amazing feeling when you win with those kind of riders, not an everyday move. |
