Well, one question: Will you only give archievements when the rider this story is focused on wins - or will it still be 'team-based'? Wink

In all fairness it should just be about Jonas Aaen's wins, anything else wouldn't make much sense and I will easily pile up 50 wins with him anyway Pfft

One more update coming today, I'm pourin' it on right now, but I can't get enough of racing with GLS right now. It's like PCM has become a totally new game and that's solely thanks to the PCMdaily DB. It's really awesome Grin

Paths of King Nikola – Stage 1

Final part of my Tour de Normandie warm-up takes place in a very unconventional cycling country, namely Montenegro in 4-day stage race Paths of King Nikola the profile fits me perfectly with two hilly stages and two flats. Today’s stage is quite hilly and I hope that the hills can make sure I won’t have to sprint against Alex Rasmussen today.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0011.jpg

I’m feeling quite good today and I think I can do very well in this race eventhough I’ll try to pace myself a bit to save some energy for Tour de Normandie which begins the day after the final stage in this race.

Today’s TV break consisted of a lone rider, Kristjan Fajt of Perutnina Petuj.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0001.jpg

I felt very good on the climbs today and I had no problems getting over. My strongest teammates were Vandborg and Rasmussen who were able to kepp up pretty well on the climbs. At the top of the final climb Fajt was back in the pack and we were going to have a bunch sprint today. The peloton consisted of some 40 riders at the finale.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0004.jpg

We had strenght in numbers so we sat up a train with Vandborg with Rasmussen in his wheel and then me following Rasmussen. Vandborg did an incredible job of getting us to the front before Jacob Moe opened the sprint, with me having Björn Glasner in my wheel, who beat me in Omloop van het Waasland.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0007.jpg

Jacob Moe leading me out. I can taste it now.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0008.jpg

Jacob did an incredible job for me as all I had to do was to get out of his wheel and pass him to take my first win of the season. I was absolutely thrilled as I crossed the line. The first thing in my mind was to thank my teammates, and especially Jacob and Brian who were with me all day and who did a perfect job for me in the finale.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0010.jpg

It was fantastic to recieve the yellow jersey up on that podium. I don’t want to go all in for keeping it, but I’ll definitely try because I know I’m in good shape now. Nevertheless I’m still a bit surprised with the win, because eventhough I’m starting to feel quite strong I’m still some way off my peak. But that’s just a good thing I guess.

Paths of King Nikola – Stage 2

I have had a major confidence boost since my win yesterday and I’m really determined to finish this. It’s very special for me to ride around in the leader’s jersey and you get a lot of respect from your colleagues at the sign-in when you’re the leader and I’m enjoying every single second of it. Now it’s time to finish it.

Today’s all flat and my teammates will working bring the race together before the finale and then me or Jacob will take part in the sprint.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0001-1.jpg

Kubias, Cador and Rake took off in today’s TV break.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0002-1.jpg

The didn’t present any problems for my teammates as they were controlled very well throughout the day. But after a section with cross-wind 4 riders seperated themselves from the pack with 40 km to go and then we needed to haul ass because each rider in the 4-man break were only 46 seconds down on me in the GC.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0005.jpg

The pack worked well together but the gap seemed static at 40 seconds so with 10 kilometres to go, Jacob moe soloed across the gap with the pack trailing him all the way. That way he managed to bring the race together and lead me out for the sprint.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0008-1.jpg

I was in a good position in Jacob’s wheel.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0009.jpg

But here comes Murn and Rasmussen. I don’t have the same power as they do obviously.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0010-1.jpg

In the end Rasmussen managed to edge past Murn to take the second consecutive Danish win of the race.

Paths of King Nikola – Stage 3

Another flat stage before we hit the hills again on tomorrow’s final stage. I’m a bit nervous to be honest because I want to bring this home now. It would gave such a big confidence boost before Normandie, where I’m aiming for the podium. The plan today is to let a break go and we won’t try to bring it back in if there isn’t any dangerous riders for the GC in there.

Samuele Marini of P-Nívó decided to take off in a solo break today and since he was 12 minutes down in the GC before today we saw no reason to put in any effort to catch him.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0012.jpg

Other teams did and he was reeled in with 35 kilometres to go, but not by the pack. It was PSK Whirlpool’s Jakub Danacik who had come across on his own, only to solo on alone immediately.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0014.jpg

And the Czech was going really fast and he remained a gap of 1’20 for a long time. There were a few hills leading into the finish and these helped Danacik as he went faster up here then the riders leading the pack. With just under 10 kilometres to go he had 1’08 and looked like he would make it. Luckily he was almost 4 minutes down on me in the GC so he was no threat.

And he did make it, I gotta say I’m very impressed by his performance as you don’t see riders pull this stunt too often.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0017-1.jpg

I was up there in the sprint again while Jacob Moe wouldn’t bother today. At the end of the day I was the 5th rider to cross the finish line and I can’t wait to tomorrow to seal this race.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0018-2.jpg

I forgot to export results, but nothing changed in the GC, or well, Murn came a bit closer as he took some time on the line. He is now 24 seconds down.

Paths of King Nikola – Stage 4

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0013.jpg

It’s the final stage and I can almost taste the overall win now. But I still have in mind what happened in 3 Jours du Vaucluse, where Niki lost his lead on the final day, but the team has done very well for me so far and I’m confident we will be able to control things again today.

To riders went away today. They were May and Loria. Loria was only 46 seconds down but 2 riders should be controllable.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0001-2.jpg

The team was very focused at the front and I kept calling the team car over the radio to get a time on the breakaway riders. I was on the edge of my seat all day.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0002-2.jpg

Loria was surprisingly dropped on the last climb of the day, so with May being 12 minutes down in the GC our interests of reeling him in were lowered. I took a big relay on the climb though to see if I could cause some problems, but in only resulted in some gained time on May.

May would be caught on the flat part right after the KOM sprint by Uroz Murn. He attacked a few hundred metres from the sprint, and eventhoug he is just 24 seconds after me in the GC, I thought I wouldn’t make a move since he was probably just going for the mountain points. But he wasn’t.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0005-1.jpg

A furious chase began and I was furious myself. I thought it was foul play of Murn to take off where he did and as I was helping with the relaying I grew more and more angry with him.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0006.jpg

His gap kept grewing and with 18 kilometres to go it was 1’30 before I, in a last ditch effort tried to haul him back on my own.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0007-1.jpg

But Murn was superhuman today and he just kept on gaining and gaining eventhough there was a bordure of ten riders chasing as hard as they could. I was losing it all.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0010-2.jpg

Murn took the win and the GC finishing the day almost 2 minutes before the pack where I, in my fury refused to even sprint for points. At second though maybe I should have done so, because then at least I could have salvaged the green jersey.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0011-2.jpg

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0012-1.jpg

I didn’t even want to look at Murn and I didn’t talk to him on the podium. Now I can’t wait to get an opportunity to beat him. He’s my sworn enemy now and I hope he will race Normandie, which takes off tomorrow, which means we will leave for France immediately.

Tour de Normandie – Stage 1

I’m here at what is my first big task of the season. Today’s stage is a very short time trial of some 5 kilometres throug the city of Mondeville. Then 7 stages follow with all of them being flat with the exception of one of them, where a sharp climb towards the finish should provide me with a chance of showing my abilities as an attacker for the first time this season. That is the main stage for my concern, but I also hope to do some podiums on the flat stages to gain some time in the GC, because I will probably lose some today.

I reckon my biggest rival to be Lars Boom. He did a very good time trial today finishing 2nd.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0016-2.jpg

I’ll never be a good time trialist and today was just all about reducing the inevitable loss of time. I finished the day 49th, with a loss of 25 seconds, so I’m well pleased.

Tour de Normandie – Stage 2

Today is 210 kilometres of completely flat roads so we will probably have a mass sprint finish. I’m in really good form, so I will definitely try to do something in the sprint today and hopefully pick up a podium, so I can regain some of the 25 seconds I lost on yesterday’s time trial.

And it was indeed a predictable day. While I was getting max protection from my teammates in the bunch, a group of riders took off and formed the TV break of the day.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0001-3.jpg

The breakaway was reeled in with exactly at the 50 kilometres mark and apparently nobody wanted to counter, so we would indeed have a mass sprint finish. I didn’t have the best of legs today, but I was positive I could do well. Unfortuneately the jostling for positions before the sprint was very chaotic and when you finally thought you had a good wheel, another train came surging by.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0002-3.jpg

So I was very badly placed for the sprint and it would be impossible to get a podium, but I gave it my all anyway and I just managed to edge into the top ten on the day.

Tour de Normandie – Stage 3

Another flat stage and a very short one as it’s only just over 80 kilometres. Unlike yesterday where I couldn’t really get my legs going in the sprint I feel significantly better today, so I’m confident I can do a lot better today. I know I have to make the difference on the 5th stage but it would be nice to get som boni seconds on these flat stages and with the form I’m in I should be very capable of doing so.

Break went away. Break got caught with 25 kilometres to and me and Jacob Moe began preparing for the sprint, where he would lead me out.

My legs were responsing very well today and I felt up for it. Jacob managed to place me very well for the sprint and he gave me a very strong lead-out.

Jacob surging towards the Agritubel train on the right hand side, we are nearing fast but I know that Casper will be very strong when he decides to open up.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0004-2.jpg

Shortly after I left Jacob’s wheel and I was nearing in on the leader Lars Croket, but I couldn’t quite go past him, but I had a podium in my sight. On the very last metres Casper came charging up the inside of Croket. It’s gonna be close.

And Casper does scrape his bike over the line a fraction faster than Croket. That’s the 3rd consecutive Agritubel win. I was very happy with 3rd as it would gain me 8 seconds and move me to 18th in the GC.

Tour de Normandie – Stage 4

Another flat and short stage. It’s about 80 kilometres but it’s a bit hilly and towards the finish the riders have to conquer two small hills, which is absolutely perfect terrain for me and hopefully the hills will make Casper run out of steam so I can beat him in the sprint.

A 5-man break went away and it was caught again with 18 kilometres to go, just as the pack entered the two small hills.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0008-2.jpg

On the final hills with just under 10 kilometres to go me and Jacob moved to the front to inject a little pace on the gradients. Time will tell if the pressure gets to Casper.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0009-1.jpg

After the hill things got a little chaotic and I got seperated from Jacob, but in a stroke of luck Casper in the wheel of his lead-out man Lequatre, suddenly appeared right in front of me, so I managed to grab his wheel and get perfect position.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0010-3.jpg

Lequatre was strong and Casper waited a long time to make his move and as I was feeling quite strong I decided to make my move and try to go past him. I went faster than both Agritubel riders but I chose the wrong lane as I got stuck behind Lequatre.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0011-3.jpg

Suddenly Lequatre stopped sprinting and me and Casper would fight it out as we moved right past him. I closed in on the Frenchman and I was really digging deep now.

i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll76/A_Schleck/PCM0012-2.jpg

I gave it my last and I soon realized I was actually faster than Casper. I saw the finishline getting closer and closer while Casper lost metres on me step by step. There was no one in front of me and with 10 metres to go I realized I had won it. I was absolutely ecstatic afterwards. Apparently Casper had problems keeping up on the hills.

My second win of the season and this one is definitely the better as I beat a very experienced sprinter on his hometurf. With the win I move to 3rd in the GC ahead of tomorrow’s hilly stage. I can’t wait now because I’m feeling incredibly and after the incident in Montenegro I’m really determined to win here.
