Battling on the World Stage - Queen Stage at Le Dauphine
latarnik
yes of course, it would be great

SportingNonsense
Latarnik. I was asking whether you thought Poland should ride the Tour de Suisse or the Dauphine?
I will be doing both tours.

Would one of these favourites break the trend and actually win? All 3 TTTs were won by a squad that was not among the favourites.

Escobar (img90.imageshack.us/img90/1098/spain1kmus9.gif) began the precedings but 3rd up was Mikhail Ignatiev (img239.imageshack.us/img239/4381/russia5otre2.gif), who went about setting a tough benchmark for others to beat.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/itt-a.png
He comfortably passed Ricco (img93.imageshack.us/img93/6582/italia1nfwt1.gif) on his way to a time of 1h45'00. Gabrovski (img516.imageshack.us/img516/4360/ukrain7iwep6.gif) was the nearest threat, 36 seconds back for quite a while until 2 TT Powerhouses left the starthouse.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/itt-b.png
Cancellara (img86.imageshack.us/img86/5885/switzerland0wjvy8.gif) and Zabriskie (img347.imageshack.us/img347/1842/usiq2gh3.gif). Zabriskie though, was unconvincing and could only take 4th at the finish, a minute behind Ignatiev. Cancellara was a different matter though and after a slow start, he powered onwards and took the lead by nearly 29 seconds.

José Iván Gutiérrez (img90.imageshack.us/img90/1098/spain1kmus9.gif), Marzio Bruseghin (img93.imageshack.us/img93/6582/italia1nfwt1.gif),
Yaroslav Popovych (img516.imageshack.us/img516/4360/ukrain7iwep6.gif), David Millar (img127.imageshack.us/img127/5913/greatbritainzz8mx5.gif), and Alexandre Vinokourov (img291.imageshack.us/img291/2814/kazakhstan7pnqp1.gif) all tried and failed to beat Cancellara as only 4 strong riders were left.
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/itt-c.png
Brad McGee (img528.imageshack.us/img528/2746/australia3teic2.gif), and Bradley Wiggins (img127.imageshack.us/img127/5913/greatbritainzz8mx5.gif) imitated an Individiual Pursuit on the track as Wiggins immediately followed Mcee, this is an event which Wiggins has dominated recently and it showed as Wiggins easily beat McGee, almost catching him on the line. They were both chasing the new best time of Bobby Julich (img347.imageshack.us/img347/1842/usiq2gh3.gif) and Wiggins led from start to finish to take the lead - it all looked set for yet another victory from a non-favourite.
Local favourite Janez Brajkovic (img527.imageshack.us/img527/7935/slovenia8vply1.gif) couldnt stop this, finishing 5th.

STAGE 1

*** - David Millar img127.imageshack.us/img127/5913/greatbritainzz8mx5.gif, Dave Zabriskie img347.imageshack.us/img347/1842/usiq2gh3.gif, Michael Rogers img528.imageshack.us/img528/2746/australia3teic2.gif

A short and flat ITT to kickoff the procedings.

i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine1-a.png
Matija Kvasina laid down the benchmark time.
After 20 riders:
1. img132.imageshack.us/img132/9346/croatia1pxhz2.gif Matija Kvasina 6'35. 2. img93.imageshack.us/img93/5381/sweden2gnfx6.gif Andreas Svensson 6'41. 3. img127.imageshack.us/img127/5913/greatbritainzz8mx5.gif Ben Swift 6'46.

i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine1-b.png
Michael Rogers (Pictured) and Mikhail Ignatiev were expected to set new faster times, after all, Kvasina was 4 minutes down on Wiggins in the 77km TT.
But, after 40 riders:
1. img132.imageshack.us/img132/9346/croatia1pxhz2.gif Matija Kvasina 6'35. 2. img528.imageshack.us/img528/2746/australia3teic2.gif Michael Rogers 6'39. 3. img239.imageshack.us/img239/4381/russia5otre2.gif Mikhail Ignatiev 6'40.

i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine1-c.png
Dave Zabriskie was the next challenger, and he couldnt quite do it, equalling Kvasina.
After 60 riders:
1. img132.imageshack.us/img132/9346/croatia1pxhz2.gif Matija Kvasina 6'35. 2. img347.imageshack.us/img347/1842/usiq2gh3.gif Dave Zabriskie 6'35. 3. img528.imageshack.us/img528/2746/australia3teic2.gif Michael Rogers 6'39.

i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine1-d.pngi105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine1-e.png
Karpets + Millar both looked strong today:
After 140 riders:
1. img127.imageshack.us/img127/5913/greatbritainzz8mx5.gif David Millar 6'31. 2. img239.imageshack.us/img239/4381/russia5otre2.gif Vladimir Karpets 6'32. 3. img132.imageshack.us/img132/9346/croatia1pxhz2.gif Matija Kvasina.
It's Millar time!
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine1-f.png

STAGE 2

*** - Robbie McEwen, Tom Boonen, Thor Hushovd

Denis Shkarpeta (UZB - Neutral Team) and Jonathan Clarke img164.imageshack.us/img164/5751/newzealand7ijvd8.gif make the days break, which is inevitably doomed, despite gaining a lead of 12'22.

With 60km Clarke held a 1'20 lead, but had been joined by 6 others ... who dropped him .. but were then caught themselves.

Coming into the sprint, Ventoso img90.imageshack.us/img90/1098/spain1kmus9.gif and Riberio img527.imageshack.us/img527/5030/portugal5pxhl1.gif were looking strong. Alex Rasmussen img191.imageshack.us/img191/2149/danmark4qlkl7.gif was also up there along with the Downings. Where were Boonen, Hushovd and McEwen?
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine2.png
Well there was Hushovd! He surged through to spoil what looked to be a surprise win for Portugal.

STAGE 3

Omar di Felice (Neutral) went on a crzy solo break and late on in the stage Remy di Gregorio, Igor Anton, Aleksandr Diachenko and George Hincapie took over, they led by 3 minutes at the start of a short, tough climb, but at the top that lead was 30 seconds, with over half of the 30km left downhill.

5km to go, thed sprint is gearing up but only 35 riders are in the front group. The stage will be between Downing, Boonen and Ribeiro. Dean Downing leads out his brother Russel as Ribeiro and Boonen make their moves early to try to get round them. At 1km left Russel finally makes his move with a clear road in front of him - has the hill taken too much out of Boonen or will he surge through?
i105.photobucket.com/albums/m223/tpsonarcade/dauphine3.png
