Here we are - the team presentation of the Vivacom - DataMap Cycling Team.

Bulgaria
VDC will have 4 cyclists from Bulgaria in our 20-rider squad
1. Nikolay Mihaylov - the 53k acquisition from Podium Ambition Mihaylov will don the colors of Vivacom one more time. He hopes that with the new team will reach new fortunes.

2. Stanislav Zaraliev - another transfer deal between the former and current Vivacom sponsored teams, this deal was valued 50k. With the NC titles around his waist he hopes to retain them at the Republican Championship (Bulgarian national championships) and also to excel at his new home

3. Nako Georgiev - signed by the team as Free Agent Nako Georgiev will try to deliver at the Bulgarian team and learn from the bigger names. He'll also have to impress his boss, who thinks that he may be future top domestique

4. Georgi Gorgiev - also former Podium Ambition rider (when it was known as Lululemon/Bulgaria Blackfish), G. Georgiev was signed in the Free Agency and will join his former teammates Mihaylov and Zaraiev to form the Vivacom Bulgarian quartet.

France
With one rider short, the French surprisingly are the second most represented nation

1. Sylvain Chavanel - the first big name has joined the team as free agent. While he doesn't shine with some great skill nor is getting any younger, he was signed with the purpouse to be the team's mentor and help when needed

2. Jonathon Thire - bought only for 20k from the La Poste - Mavic team Thire will be excelent for breakaways and intermediate sprints.

3. Maxime Le Montagner - a last minute deal was reached between Vivacom and Generali - AXA teams this 25 year old cyclist comes with great cobble and sprint stats.

Next will be Spain, Albania and Romania riders

Continuing with the team presentation:
Spain
We have 2 riders from Spain and boy what names they are

1. Mikel Nieve - signed for 100k and with 70k wage Nieve will be one of the central riders in the team. His abilities would be useful for decent performances in stage races. Also his experience will be good for mentoring the youngsters

2. Jose Joaquin Rojas Gil - another big signing (bought for 50k from Movistar - US Postal) in the team. A cobble specialist and solid on flat races and stages he could get himself in breakaways.

Romania
Romania's contigent is formed by 2 riders

1. Oleg Berdos - one of the many transfers, who were made for no fee at all. With an solid stats his role in the races as domestique could be crucial

2. Marius Petrache - Another rider from the free agency. While he doesn't shine with great stats his hill stats could be useful for hilly stages where potential breakaways will be imminent.

Albania
Albania doesn't have that much of big names, but still the team got hand on two youngsters.

1. Xhuliano Kamberaj - this is the team's first and only loanee for this season. With solid flat and sprint abilities Kamberaj could potentially be one of the best sprinters

2. Marildo Yzeiraj - another free agent. His stats as fighter could be decisive at some points.

That wraps up the 2 rider nations - tomorow we'll present the rest of the riders

Moto-Pfohe enters the team as key partner

During the second stage of Tour of Bulgaria it was announced that Moto-Pfohe - the official car dealer for Ford, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover in Bulgaria - will join the team officially as Vivacom - DataMap's strategic and key partner during the season. The owner and chairman of the team ivaneurope made the announcement and stated that "The team is looking forward to this partnership with Moto-Pfohe. For more than 25 years Moto-Phohe is one of the top car dealerships in Bulgaria and the team is delighted to work with partners like them.".

The team's service vehicles (Ford Focus SW Ecoboost) will be serviced by Moto-Pfohe mechanics and will provide 2 Ford Transit for storing spare parts for the bikes. The logo of the company won't be on the team's jerseys for the time being and instead the logo of Ford will be shown. However it is expected the Moto-Pfohe name and logo to be prominently featured for the next season and taking over from DataMap as the team's co-naming rights holder. Despite that the cartographic publisher is set to remain key partner for the team regardless of their status as sponsor within the team.

Thanks. The team will target bigger things next season and the main goal for 2017 is getting promotion for 2018. And this will mean that there will be roster restructure - some riders may leave. But the future is bright for the team.

An article for the riders' performances will be made after Tour of Bulgaria

Vivacom-DataMap boss denies talks with the Bulgarian tourist board

During the season there was presistent rumour that the Bulgarian tourist board will end its partnership with the Podium Ambition. Also there were rumours that they are set to become main sponsor of the Vivacom-DataMap squad. These claims were however by the team director ivaneurope

"At the moment we are not intending to negotiate with the BTB (Bulgarian tourist board). The team has more than perfect relationship with our sponsors and partner."

There were BTB representitives during Tour of Bulgaria. Also the rumour of Bulgaria trying to convince ivaneurope to purchase Podium Ambition's assets and effectively merge the two entities. This was also debunked by ivaneurope and stated: "The team is condemning every speculation regarding the future of an competitor's team. I am aware that the relationship between TheManxMissile and Bulgaria isn't the same, but I believe that the team will find solution to survive and IMO stronger than before. We are having huge mutual respect for each other and during the transfer window TMM sold some of his riders to my team and I'm happy to have such experience in the squad."

While the rumours that Bulgaria will sponsor the team were denied, it has surfaced that Moto-Pfohe is likely to invest huge sum of money for next year. Rumours cirulate that the team will be called Vivacom - Moto-Pfohe Pro Cycling from next year and meaning that Moto-Pfohe will take over naming duties from DataMap.

What's in store for Vivacom - DataMap

After only a few months of its existance in the cycling world, the Vivacom-DataMap is reflecting on its debut season. "To be fair the season didn't start as expected" - said ivaneurope, the director sportif of the outfit. "The performance of some riders is way worse than I thought and need to pick up in the next races or they may face the chop." With the team's projection being one of the five lowest the team need to improve in the remaining months.

The team is not having short of sponsors. During Tour of Bulgaria it was announced that Moto-Pfohe will be the teams techical and strategical partner. "In Moto-Pfohe we have a reliable partner for years to come. The infrastructure and finances are in safe hands." Even though that it is set to lose the naming rights, DataMap will remain part of the team - "DataMap is and will be our partner for the future. They provide us with road maps for the stages, which is very helpful at some points".

Despite denying talks with Bulgaria during Tour of Bulgaria, ivaneurope didn't exclude the possibility of the tourist board to join as minor sponsor. "I can't confirm nor deny chances for Bulgaria (tourist board) to become part of our sponsorhip portfolio". Also it was further denied merger with soon to be formerly sponsored by Bulgaria team of Podium Ambition. "You can write off any of these rumours about merging. The team is fine the way as it is and we will not merging with anyone."

More news later.....

Nieve to be let go? Changes in the team?

The Tour of Malaysia turned out to be a sour taste for Vivacom-DataMap - after inititial good performance and top 5 placing until mid-race, Mikel Nieve had a huge slump and droped in the rankings (he finished 31st). Also he was uncompetitive in the recent Barcelona Classic which sparked rumours regarding his future within the team. According to some sources ivaneurope was extremely unhappy with the slump in Malaysia and reminded him that if he doesn't perform, he will be shown the door at the end of the season. The Spainiard however managed to finish 5-th in the KOM, but the sudden drop and his place being questioned could prove crucial later in the season and only good results can help him secure his ride with the team for 2017.

The race in Malaysia wasn't that bad either - Nieve finished 2-nd on the first big test (Stage 3). The young Pole Michal Podalski caped 3-rd at Stage 7, Clive Ebejer of Malta was 5-th in Stage 8 and Bulgarian Nikolay Mihaylov finished 5-th in Stage 9. As it was mentioned Nieve is 5-th in KOM and Vivacom-DataMap finished 9-th in the team standings - their best team finish.

In Azerbaijan the team was led by the Kazakh Andrey Zeits. Zeits, who is the most expensive rider in the entire roster, proved that the sallary is well deserved with 13-th place on the final stage and 12-th in the GC. Georgi Georgiev was 23-rd and Jan Stöhr performed well in 29-th. The solid performance of the team meant that the team bested their Tour of Malaysia record by finishing 8-th in the team standings.

In the Barcelona Classic surprisingly Marildo Yzeiraj from Albania was the team's best rider in 19-th.

However the roster is worried about their future - it was mentioned that Nieve's poor performances will play vital role. Also JJ Rojas is not secured for 2017. Nako Georgiev could be sent for 2017 in developmental team. Clive Ebejer however looks determined to remain after strong 5-th in Stage 8 of Tour of Malaysia.

Euskal Bizikleta - the resurgance of Nieve

In the Euskal Bizikleta one rider had to prove that he can save his job. After poor second half of Tour of Malaysia and abysmal performance in the Barcelona Classic the Spainiard's future with the team was hanging in balance. He came in the Basque Country to prove that he can still fight with the best in the Continental Circuits. And he indeed delivered the strongest ever result of the team ever - 2nd in GC after strong showing in the final queen stage of the race. He finished on little under 2 minutes from the stage and GC winner Dominik Klemme of Kratwerk.

This was also the first time that both team leaders - Nieve and Andrey Zeits - were in the squad choosen by the team manager before the season beginning. The start was good with JJ Rojas finishing 38th after being in the break for so long in the stage, taking the KOM lead as well. In stage two most of the riders finished within the peloton, but the 3rd stage was the first big test for the riders. Nieve and Zeits finishing in the first large group. The final stage determined who will be the best Vivacom placed rider and this was Nieve. Zeits finished 23rd in GC and Vivacom finished 8th in front of teams like Podium Ambition.

Speaking of Podium Ambition ivaneurope was asked if he is willing to sell any of the team's former riders back to the. the replay was: "If they want to get their former employees back they will need to have deep pockets. If the price is right I may consider transfer. The same applies to my transfer intentions for some PA riders - they won't be cheap that's for sure". He also stated that Zeits and most likely Nieve will be off limits for any teams willing to have them.

Huge announcements

While at the present time it's quiet for the team, Vivacom-DataMap made an announcements for the upcomming seasons. After weeks of negotiating with various bike manufacturers, it was announced that Canadian bycicle manufacturer Argon 18 will supply the team with bike frames for 2017. This deal means that Focus Bikes - their current supplier - will end its cooperation with the team at the end of the season.

Meanwhile DT Swiss, which is their current tyre supplier, confirmed that the talks for prolonging their contract are in an advanced phase and it's expected a deal to be signed very shortly. Shimano is also negotiating for extenting their groupset supply deal.
