Try say someone who isn't from the same country as you it makes it a lot more funny. My favourite rider is Samuel Sanchez, and i'm from denmark, and he doesn't even ride for CSC
"I love him, I think he's great. He's transformed the sport in so many ways. Every person in cycling has benefitted from Lance Armstrong, perhaps not financially but in some sense" - Bradley Wiggins on Lance Armstrong
In all truthfulness though, I'd say Armstrong. He's still a pretty incredible guy even if (who am I kidding, even though he did) do drugs. Or Coppi.
And this is why:
according to Tour historian Pierre Chany, that from 1946 to 1954, when Coppi had attacked the peloton, he was never caught by his pursuers. On hearing this, Eddy Merckx, another candidate for greatest cyclist of all time, commented, "In that case, perhaps he really was better than me."
In case you haven't realised, I'm what you may term in football a "glory hunter" except not so pronounced

Since ive only been interested in cycling other than the Tour for the past couple of years, and the Tour since Pantani's win, I dont really have an all time favourite.
For current cyclists, take your pick from Millar, Wiggins, Cavendish, Thomas and Frank Schleck.

Anquetil was full of drugs, though his "legend" remains impressive. I'm quite fond of what he managed to achieve, etc.
Though LeMond would probably get my vote for an all time favourite. The one who is likely to be the last human being to have won the most important race of the year.
Now I don't have one favourite, rather a dozen of riders I cheer for. Basically, I'm cheering for all the riders I trust, ethic-wise.

If you look at the average cycling fan, everyone is far more cynical the more years they've been watching cycling.
When we're starting to watch, in our first 3-4 years we all think most riders are clean and that only a few top riders are doped.
Then they start getting caught.
And the new fans that come in at that moment will think those riders that are still there are mostly clean. Until they get caught.
It's ongoing, it never stops, and after a few years you start to embrace the sad truth.

Well, I originally anwered based on current riders.
If it's an all-time thing it would be Lemond. The 1989 Tour was what got me interested in cycling as an 11 year old.
Others may think otherwise, but for me that still stands as the most exciting tour I've watched... and I don't think I've missed one since then. Watching the time tick down and Fignon approached the line and not quite making it is a replay I can watch over and over.
