First season in World Tour with CCC Sprandi - now second season :) 2017
pokwa
Stage 2 Pais Vasco. One of the easiest in the race. We were on the front, setting the pace.

There were an early escape.
s18.postimg.org/z9tgv960l/PCM0002.jpg
Peleton with us on the front.
s18.postimg.org/70rsl1prp/PCM0003.jpg
Gilbert Pinot and Matheews went clear on the penultimate climb.
s18.postimg.org/qg2ke5j1x/PCM0004.jpg
Peleton catch them and Paterski tried another attack with 3km to the top of the last climb.
s18.postimg.org/l9w0guto5/PCM0005.jpg
But he was catched by Alaphilippe, Gilbert and Henao.
s18.postimg.org/c72xw34j9/PCM0006.jpg
I was unable to stay with them, but I helped peleton to reduce the gap.

3rd stage, IMO the toughest and they show Paterski who is the sherrif.

40km to go Quintana attacked and I couldn't response. Team is to weak.
s14.postimg.org/dz2h8tfm5/PCM0010.jpg

Then a group of favorites formed with Paterski too, but he was in trouble. Yellow bar getting worse.
s14.postimg.org/5r0jntnpp/PCM0009.jpg

Paterski lost contact with them with 15km to go and many riders from another group catch him and left behind. Finally he gets 8 minutes (!) from Nairo and went back to 15th in GC. :/

We started Sarthe too. I have a really good team for sprints. On the first stage we made a great leadout, but 10km to go Latoń fell down and the peleton was in total chaos. Only Bouhanni was able to take a ticket to my train and beat Gaviria in the final.

Again on the second stage very good leadout, but a guy from Romania took win from us. At least before the ITT Gaviria is leader.

4th stage was tough too with mountain finish.

There was an escape, but peleton didn't have them a chance to made it.

s30.postimg.org/isw2aaod9/PCM0011.jpg

Before the last climb Paterski was alone and quite tired. The goal was to minimalize gap at the end.

s30.postimg.org/jkyq9hskd/PCM0012.jpg

We have a lot of luck, because at the end of climb Paterski lost the contact, but last kilometer has a very tight rode, so the first group became longer and Paterski finished with 11 seconds to winner while actually cross the line with about minute and a half after. I gain one place in GC, while Mollema withdrawn.

Fifth stage and we decided to try go in escape with Paterski. I send Delaplace too. There were also Hermans, Rolland and Valls.
s15.postimg.org/jhlcprjqf/PCM0017.jpg
At first peleton didn't let us more than 3 minutes, but soon with Delaplace hard work we reached more. Maximum was 7 minutes, 80km to go. On climbs I didn't follow Rolland, who was fighting for KOM.

s15.postimg.org/xzijxrb1j/PCM0021.jpg

Delaplace lost contact and the 4 riders had more than 2 minutes with 20km to go.

s15.postimg.org/6he772mjr/PCM0023.jpg

I made a tempo and only Hermans could follow, and then he counter attack me.

s15.postimg.org/uwmf84lgn/PCM0024.jpg

He was better on the line and almost Alaphilippe pass us at the line. So close to 2nd win on this race, but this time Hermans was better.

Amstel Gold Race. First from Ardennes trio and I think best chance for Paterski to be in TOP 10. In the end 5 riders attacks and Paterski just stay in second group. It was Gilbert, Kwiatkowski, Valverde, Alaphilippe and Costa. Costa was out of fuel soon and second group catch him. Paterski was +3 and really had some luck because he was always in the front and didn't waste his energy. He put great result for us - 5th place. Screens and results:

Fleche Walonne wasn't so good. Paterski was -1 and I think it will be worst in LBL. There were attacks in last 25 km, but Paterski another time stay in second group. In finale I wasn't as good as on Cauberg and I finished outside top 10 - on 12th place, but I'm still satisfied.

Situation 13 km to go. Van Gestel was a guy from early breakaway.

Meanwhile my 4 guys - Hirt, Micolucci, Szmyd and Samoilau are back from training camp. Good job there. Now Hirt can fight for top 5, Micolucci will be very important rider there.

15km to go, Paterski look like he could made a top 20, but for sure no top 5. But there was a problem - escape with 1:40 15 to go.

s16.postimg.org/6xbm5cnpt/PCM0005.jpg
I decided to try do something. I put a strong tempo on St. Nicolas climb, and I went clear, the peleton didn't chase. On another the best of peleton went out, but 5 km to it's looked like escape will make it.

Yeah, can't complain Smile. The next races are Romandie, Turkey and Rund um Finanzplatz.

Maybe I will start with the last. We decided to make Paterski a leader. There were some climbs on the race, but last end at 45km to go. There were just 44 riders in the peleton 10km to the finish and Paterski has full bar of power. Lutsenko attacked with one guy at 5km to go. I went behind them and counter them 3km to go. Nobody was able to catch me.

1 Maciej Paterski CCC Sprandi Polkowice 4h40'25
2 Tosh Van der Sande Lotto Soudal s.t.

10 Pieter Jacobs Topsport Vlaanderen - Baloise s.t.

Turkey (stages 1-5). Leader for sprints Gaviria, leader for GC Szmyd.
1st stage. Leadout was great, so the result was great too. I was surprised with the lack of performance from Kittel, but he is probably in poor condition.

1 Fernando Gaviria CCC Sprandi Polkowice 3h01'51
2 Moreno Hofland Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.
3 Ahmet Örken Istanbul s.t.
4 Marcel Kittel Team Giant-Alpecin s.t.
5 Patryk Stosz CCC Sprandi Polkowice s.t.
6 Ariel Maximiliano Richeze Lampre-Merida s.t.
7 Matthew Goss Orica-GreenEDGE s.t.
8 Matthieu Ladagnous IAM Cycling s.t.
9 Brenton Jones Drapac Professional Cycling s.t.
10 Pim Ligthart Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.

Second stage was tougher. Gaviria was blocked, and while leadout - Kurek and Stosz were on the front, Fernando had to sat at Hofland wheel. Thankfully he was the strongest again.

Rank Name Team Time
1 Fernando Gaviria CCC Sprandi Polkowice 3h13'42
2 Ariel Maximiliano Richeze Lampre-Merida s.t.
3 Ahmet Örken Istanbul s.t.
4 Moreno Hofland Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.
5 Matthew Goss Orica-GreenEDGE s.t.
6 Brenton Jones Drapac Professional Cycling s.t.
7 Matthieu Ladagnous IAM Cycling s.t.
8 Marcel Kittel Team Giant-Alpecin s.t.
9 Pim Ligthart Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.
10 Vicente Reynès IAM Cycling s.t.

3rd stage was crucial for GC. Unfortunately Szmyd was -2 and with his Flat 59 he lost some energy before the last climb, so was unable to make more than a 5th place.

1 Carter Jones Team Giant-Alpecin 4h00'31
2 Marcel Wyss IAM Cycling + 23
3 Kevin Seeldraeyers Istanbul s.t.
4 Michael Woods Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies + 56
5 Sylwester Szmyd CCC Sprandi Polkowice s.t.

8 Thierry Hupond Team Giant-Alpecin s.t.
9 Frank Lines Drapac Professional Cycling s.t.
10 Marc Goos Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.

4rd stages was classified as a hilly, but we knew that if Gaviria will be strong, he may win. He was +5 and Stosz too. We did a great job on a last climb where it was 8km to go. This time Kittel was very close, but Gaviria finish the job nicely.

1 Fernando Gaviria CCC Sprandi Polkowice 3h03'06
2 Marcel Kittel Team Giant-Alpecin s.t.
3 Patryk Stosz CCC Sprandi Polkowice s.t.
4 Moreno Hofland Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.

7 Matthieu Ladagnous IAM Cycling s.t.
8 Patrick Müller IAM Cycling s.t.
9 Marc Goos Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.
10 Vicente Reynès IAM Cycling s.t.

5th stage and another Gaviria win. Even closer than a 4th stage. 4 guys was almost equal on the line.

1 Fernando Gaviria CCC Sprandi Polkowice 4h39'11
2 Ahmet Örken Istanbul s.t.
3 Marcel Kittel Team Giant-Alpecin s.t.
4 Pim Ligthart Team LottoNL - Jumbo s.t.

8 Martin Kohler Drapac Professional Cycling s.t.
9 Andrea Vaccher Lampre-Merida s.t.
10 Brenton Jones Drapac Professional Cycling s.t.

Tour de Romandie is a very important race before Giro. I decided to take Hirt and Micolucci there. Jan to fight for top 5 in GC, Ranieri to help him and save some energy for the last ITT. Unfortunaetly Hirt was just good before the race. I have problem with this shit. I hope he will be excellent in terms of rest before Giro.

1st stage was a prologue. Nothing to write... wait, Hirt lost 56 second with this average rest.

1 Alex Dowsett Movistar Team 5'44
2 Tom Dumoulin Team Giant-Alpecin + 1
3 Ilnur Zakarin Tinkoff-Saxo + 3
4 Jesse Sergent Trek Factory Racing + 5
5 Luke Durbridge Orica-GreenEDGE + 7
6 Damien Gaudin Ag2r La Mondiale + 9
7 Simon Spilak Team Katusha + 12
8 Cameron Meyer Orica-GreenEDGE + 14
9 Chris Froome Team Sky + 16
10 Martin Elmiger BMC Racing Team + 19

2nd stage flat one, but some hills on there. We hope for Brateng, but he was too tired before the sprint, so Latoń fight and he did good job, finishing 3rd.

1 Nacer Bouhanni Cofidis, Solutions Crédits 3h01'47
2 Marc Sarreau FDJ s.t.
3 Eryk Latoń CCC Sprandi Polkowice s.t.

8 Davide Cimolai Lampre-Merida s.t.
9 Arnaud Courteille FDJ s.t.
10 Fabio Aru Astana Pro Team s.t.

3rd stage, hilly, but really tough. Everything decided on the last climb, which was ending 10km to go with descent.
s11.postimg.org/5qhduftbz/PCM0014.jpg
Hirt was very comfotable even with strong tempo 120km to go.
s11.postimg.org/7ku8c6gcf/PCM0015.jpg
60km to go and just 50 riders in 1st group.
s11.postimg.org/m2rfk67nj/PCM0016.jpg
Before last climb Jan still had Micolucci.
s11.postimg.org/fhepkersv/PCM0017.jpg
We decided to push up the tempo with Formolo left in front from early breakaway.
s11.postimg.org/fg4rqzpz3/PCM0018.jpg
At the top of the hill there were Quintana and Nibali in front. Then was Hirt and a 4-riders group which catched me on the descent and almost left back at the finish. At the end I was 7th and jumped to top 10 in GC.

20 Ryder Hesjedal Tinkoff-Saxo s.t.

4th stage, a mountain one, but 20km of descents after the final climb. Unfortunately I forget to made screenshots. On the final climb I was third behind Quintana and Spilak. Nibali catched me on the descent and then pass. Same with this big group which catched me. Now I think it was bad to use as much energy on the climb, because at the end I didn't gain seconds. It will be crucial on the next stage. Now 7th in GC.

Tour de Romandie last 2 stages.
s29.postimg.org/wneooi4lv/PCM0001.jpg
Penultimate stage was a queen one. Three really tough climbs and Hirt gets 2 stars in favourite ranking.
s29.postimg.org/lmo4x81qr/PCM0003.jpg
On the first climb there was a quite good selection with 50 riders left in first group. Hirt, Micolucci and Samoilau were there.
s29.postimg.org/ih3j70j4j/PCM0004.jpg
On the start of the second climb, Astana and Movistar made a fast pace, and Hirt left in the second group. We had to chase them and lose some energy.
s29.postimg.org/4tsvl1zo3/PCM0005.jpg
I catched them and 2km to the top I was in group with Quintana, Nibali and Aru, but I had to let them go, because there was still a one climb.
s29.postimg.org/bt2c6oa8j/PCM0006.jpg
Before the last climb a group of 4 riders join me, while Spilak join Aru. Few moments later Aru and Spilak were in Hirt group back again.
s29.postimg.org/j7rnz1w43/PCM0007.jpg
I made a 65% tempo because I knew I have to try gain as much as I can, looking for tomorrow TT. Quintana and Nibali were out of reach.

I managed finaly to finish 3rd, but Meintjens was close.

GIRO D' ITALIA

Our goal before the race was top 5 with Jan Hirt and stage win with Brateng. After I saw a start list, I had to change my goals and top 10 will be satisfied for me. There are riders which in my opinion are out of reach for Jan like Landa, Aru, Pinot and Porte. There are a few guys with less MO, but better TT and REC like brothers Yates, Bardet, Majka, Zakarin, Keldermann, Konig, Talansky and Pozzovivo. I listed 13 riders there, so in the pesimistic view I can even finish on 14th Smile.

This is our team for the race.
s23.postimg.org/o4hjcrp9j/PCM0002.jpg
Hirt leader - Micolucci, Szmyd and Samoilau to help him in MO. Brateng leader for flat stages - Latoń and Gradek to help him in sprints. Mihaylov and Taciak fill the roster, with quite good TT, they will help team in prologue and can make the tempo on flat stages.

On prologue we made a good effort, finishing 7th.

1st stage
Flat stage with chance for Brateng. Unfortunately Latoń fell in the half of the stage and was really tired, maybe he is injured, we will know next day. If yes, that will be a crucial for our leadout. Now I will have to looking for other trains, as Gradek is to slow to be last leadout man. I tried to do my best and situation in the last 4km looked good.
s23.postimg.org/b6po366cn/PCM0005.jpg
Unfotunately Gradek was to slow, and guys behind were faster at the start of the sprint. Brateng did everything, but it allowed him to grab 3rd place.

Drayer Quintana and Richie Porte fell down 30km to go and they lost over 4 minutes. It's probably over for Porte in terms of winning this race. IMO it will be Aru or Landa.

Meanwhile 1st stage in California and yes, Gaviria did it after great leadout Smile. Stage winning is everything what we can do, because we don't have a GC guy there.

2nd stage hilly one. I hope Paterski will win, but he was -5, maybe because he will not ride in Giro and he is pissed of. He was second but lost a lot of time to winner.

Giro d' Italia stage 3 and 4

On third stage situation was the same as on 2nd. Latoń lost energy very quick despite he hasn't an injury. I decided to withdrawn him. Brateng was all alone in finish, try to do best, but couldn't grab a good wheel, was blocked and 9th was maximum. In his prime he was very fast, but was to far to fight with the best sprinters.

4th stage was a flat and short, just 122km. There was a strong wind from the start, so I decided to put Hirt in front - 20-25 position with 90%. Sometimes peleton was in few section with 50-60 riders. Brateng was looking for Cavendish wheel, using some elbows and he fell down taking a lot of riders with him, including Micolucci. Thankfully Hirt stay in 1st group.

Hirt was 29th in 30 riders group. I will paste full results for you to check who lost how much time. From favourites in the first group were: Landa, Pinot, Aru, Keldermann, Bardet, Zakarin and Hirt.

This was a mountain one and I decided that everybody will rest, but Małecki will try to go in the escape. He did and peleton wasn't interested in chasing us. 8 stage

Yes, finally first mountain stage.
60km to go there was a crash, including Talansky.
s21.postimg.org/4qh91lmj7/PCM0012.jpg

After first climb there were just 24 riders including Hirt, Micolucci, Szmyd and Samoilau. Second group - there were some good riders like Pinot and it's look like they will catch us on the descent.
s21.postimg.org/v8zwabl8z/PCM0013.jpg

And they catched. We were very careful on the next climb, all the time in front, controling the siutation.

10km to go and still over 40 riders there. Hirt had Ranieri, but start to suffer a bit.

Majka was very strong, try to attack few times. I put Jan on 85% and setting my own tempo I was able to stay in the mix.

It was one of not many flat stages left, so we hope Brateng will get some good result. There were a quite strong crosswind.

Giro d'Italia stage 11
Longest stage, 242km. On paper hilly, but last climb can make a difference, because there is a 30km downhill. And finally Hirt had +5. Not a perfect stage for it, but we had to use it.
s18.postimg.org/rrlfule51/PCM0006.jpg
We put a strong tempo before last climb and on it. Not everyone for ready for it and some of the leaders lose some time.
s18.postimg.org/f6gddfo45/PCM0007.jpg
Only Landa and Pozzovivo were able to follow. Yates brothers group with Aru, Formolo and Van der Poel was losing more than a half minute at the top of the climb. Now I was wondering is there a rider who will led us on the descent, because I was quite tired.
s18.postimg.org/kcrioh2vp/PCM0008.jpg
Pozzovivo did it, as I was tired and Landa had Aru in second group. We were gaining second by second.
s18.postimg.org/nreaicno5/PCM0009.jpg
6km to go I went to Landa wheel and decided to fight for the stage win, even if we lost some seconds due to focus on fight and not to make a tempo.
s18.postimg.org/45l88evv9/PCM0010.jpg
I started sprint first with 1,5 to go.
s18.postimg.org/9jk0fyllh/PCM0011.jpg
Yes, we did it Smile But to be honest Pozzovivo was the strongest there.

12 stage of the Giro d'Italia was a ITT. I was a bit afraid of it, but actually Landa and Yates was as poor in TT as Hirt. Micolucci get 3 stars and was second from main favoites behind Dennis.
s15.postimg.org/zain5l4uf/PCM0003.jpg
Micolucci was very fast. When he was on the finish, he was definetly the best. Zoidl lost 51 second. It looks like saving Ranieri for this ITT on monutain stages give a results. I put it very fast on climbs and resting on descent and flat.

14 stage Giro d'Italia Finish in sanctuario Oropa Smile
Niki was the guy who set the pace from start.

A.Yates and Pinot attacked on penultimate climb. I was afraid of it.

Thankfully due to Astana work, peleton catched them.

On the final climb, Hirt with impressive +4 made a pace with Micolucii still with him.

Pace was very strong, just Aru before.

2km to go I was in front of leaders group setting the pace. Hardy from the escape still in front. Can we make a 3rd win for CCC in Giro?
s13.postimg.org/nvxk69adv/PCM0024.jpg
Of course we can. It's amazing. But I'm still very careful. Still 5 MO stages to go and with -4/-5 I can lost even 3 minutes. With podium I will be overjoyed.
