gilbert was amazingly strong today attacked with 35k to go(with nuyens not being able to follow) and went all the way.
quick step very dissapoiting... they had to be THE team to beat today with all 8 of their rider being able to win here...
but the thing that a breakaway rider got 4th place tells it all... it was a very though race. |

Exactly. I don't think anyone else gets what we're hinting at

was he amazingly strong or were the others not as strong as in previous years?

he really was strong, a solo of 35km is really good against the likes of Hoste, Cancellara, Hushovd. |

This time at the season making stats is kinda prediction anyway. But there was one intresting point..Valverde get under expetation stats..great and brave move for Wanka |

I think those were because of Valverde's performance last season. which, let's be honest, merits those stats.

It's pretty simple, really. last year Guido and I were talking about how after the Puerto scandal came out, the Quickstep team's performance suddenly dropped, along with Caisse.
Also, how that happens with a bunch of teams right after every big scandal. Which, in the scandals that were a long time ago it's common to see interviews with assumed dopers saying that "right after [insert random scandal here] we were all riding clean. everyone was too scared to take anything"
example: the 2001 Tour

So, the Vuelta a La Comunidad Valenciana was won by Ruben Plaza (Benfica) beating the likes of Contador, Nibali, Dekker, etc... Some of them only came for the view but Contador really wanted to win this race but Plaza was just too strong...

4. GUTIERREZ, José I. SPA CAISSE D`EPARGNE - at 24"
5. VERDUGO, Gorka SPA EUSKALTEL-EUSKADI - at 31"
6. CONTADOR, Alberto SPA ASTANA - at 33"
7. PINEAU, Jérôme FRA BOUYGUES TELECOM - at 35"
8. NIBALI, Vincenzo ITA LIQUIGAS - at 35"

Yeah......wait, what??
Actually, Plaza won because the guy on the lead motorcycle sent Contador down the wrong road

I didn't see any stage but in the key stage of the race i was told by a certain Mr.Quinta, that writes for a certain cycling news website, that Plaza completely owned Contador in every single stage when Plaza attacked... I found it weird too but i've seen weirder things come true so...
