Riders Looking for Greener Pastures?
Documents were found left behind in a conference room at the Stellenbosch team office by cleaning staff - luckily by an enthusiastic cycling fan. In these documents certain plans about some riders' 2015 season were revealed. After a season of valuable experience gained at PCT level, team manager aidanvn13 feels that some riders will need to compete at a higher level if they are to improve. Last season Johann Rabie and Jacques Janse van Rensburg both spent their time at Pro Tour team Wikipedia and have since returned with valuable experience for 2015. Rumour has it there are some others who would like to follow a similar path this season.

We are happy to report that renewals went very well for us. No unplanned releases and no riders we wanted to keep felt offended by our wage offers. Of course, we could have gotten away with offering some riders less, but we would've only ended up saving a total of about 80k. We've actually got a few guys available for sale who will poke interests from CT, PCT, and PT!

Moving away from sprinting, we had to depart with 3 key figures in that department, namely Maksimov, Lay and Abdallah. We would like to thank Abdallah, the Egyptian NC RR & TT champion, in particular for his loyal service. He will be missed in 2015, but don't be surprised if we chase him again next transfer season! After a rather rocky deal with Dan Craven, we would like to thank Eritel for coming to the rescue and buying Kiflay for a generous sum. We hope the young national champion will feel right at home. And an extended thanks to Quickstep and Red Bull for their contribution to developing African talent!

We are happy to announce that we've managed to secure our 2 biggest targets for transfer season: Eastman and Craven! Neither were easily come by, but we got there in the end. We are also delighted to have signed some friends for our American in Stetina and Caldwell while strengthening our South African contingent with a long-awaited Hoffman and Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg. Jacques Janse van Rensburg (not related to Reinhardt) and Johann Rabie join us after some valuable PT experience.

The squad seems to be taking shape and we are yet to conclude our transfers. We still have one or two interesting deals in the pipeline which will no doubt bolster things up even further. Things are looking on track for a Top 15 performance and a bounce-back from an awful year!
Finally, a word of thanks to those managers who we dealt with so far. You've been very kind and generous - I also appreciate all the "gentlemen's agreements" that were put in place when certain deals were made. It's been a pleasure conducting business with you all.

Thanks! Won't be setting the points log on fire and neither do I expect Eastman to over-perform in PCT with so many climbers, but I think with the current guys (and hopeful additions) we can ensure a constant trickle of points.
I certainly wish you get on that list and sooner, rather than later!

I guess we'll be seeing quite a lot of each other during the season, given how similar Marquez and Beastman are.
Looks like it's been a good transfer season for you, Top 15 goal should be achievable. The one thing I don't fully understand is why you pawned all three sprinters off, leaving Hoffman leadout-less. Any reason for that?

@Dippo: I'm sure we'll see plenty of each other.
Lots of reasons for the sprinters sale:
- $$$CASH$$$
- Moving my squad away from sprinting focus
- Hoffman will never be rated as "best" sprinter by PCM AI as there will always be 79+ guys of which only 2 or 3 will have sprint trains made. He will feature best in hilly-flat races and flat-hilly races where leadout men won't be able to keep up.
- I feel my other signings (completed and in the process) will be more valuable/consistent point scorers.

Hoffman looking to get back to winning ways
Hoffman has been around in the MG sphere for quite a long time now, but has never had the opportunity to ride on an African team. That has all changed after Project: Africa managed to come to an agreement with Metinvest. Nolan has been a feature in sprints throughout his career, but his most memorable season came in 2013 when he turned the tables to win his home tour, the Tour of South Africa on a rather hilly parcours. 2014 was a bit of a disappointment compared to the previous year, but Nolan still managed to rack up some good results albeit without a win. However, he hopes to return to his 2013 form after newly gained motivation courtesy of a change of teams.

A strong showing at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic.

George Bennett Signs for Africa!
We are delighted to anounce that we've secured the transfer of young Kiwi talent George Bennett. He comes directly from Oz Cycling Project after their recent promotion. Not content with filling a domestique's role on a PT team, Bennett was willing to stay at CT level as a part-time leader. Although Steele von Hoff was originally meant to join us, we opted to swop his place with Bennett.
We feel that Bennett has gained enough experience in recent seasons to perform at his best level. He'll be representing us in various races where Eastman is absent and should be capable of some solid top 10 performances. Thanks to tsmoha for the swift dealings!

@tsmoha: it's just one of those transfers that you need to do in the transfer season.
I was planning to follow a Berhane template for Bennett and your suggestion just reinforced this.
SotD: Thanks. I hope he'll be able to outperform some of those pure climbers with low hill stats.

Great signing with Bennett. Quite similar to Kwiatek, so I can see both I them competing in races such as Eritrea with mountains and hills. Hope him and your other signings can get you up into the top half, it's looking good for you at the moment. |
