Lovely HQ. Enjoyed reading Manager's corners post very much, a bit of nostalghia is nice for new MG managers like myself.

About time you send Gesink to a GT, he got great overall stats and is a danger on all terrains

Finally Gesink goes for it! Must admit that makes it easy considering who to cheer for in this year's Vuelta. Really looking forward to see what he can do in a GT. Fingers crossed he miraculously avoids crashes and punctures |

He's good on all terrains. But I don't think he's a danger in any of them. There a lot of better climbers that can easily put huge gaps between themselves and Gesink on the big climbs now, which makes it really hard for him to fight for podium spots. Just look at last year's results to have a better idea - best result of the season was second in California.

2015 Goals
Goal: | Top 3 | Race: | Tour of California | Designed for: | Robert Gesink |
Despite good performances in the past in California from our team, this is the first time the race will feature on our goals list. And looking at what happened in the past, it might have been a mistake not to include it sooner.
Despite not winning any stages in 4 participations, we always had one rider at the top, fighting with the very best. Our worst performance in terms of GC rankings was in 2013, when Luis Leon Sanchez still managed to finish 6th!
Gesink and Plaza have both finished second in the race. Gesink last year, Plaza in 2011. Plaza also has a 5th place in 2012. This year, Gesink will be going for the podium and, normally, he shouldn't have any problems achieving it.
Team's history in the race
2014 | General Classification | 2nd | Robert Gesink | | | 23rd | Jonathan Castroviejo | | | 29th | Rob Ruijgh | | | 58th | Wout Poels | | | 77th | Bauke Mollema | | | 100th | Paul Martens | | | 138th | Jos Van Emden | | | 173rd | Daan Rijntjes | | | | | | Stage wins | - | | | Other | - | | | | | | 2013 | General Classification | 6th | Luis Leon Sanchez | | | 19th | Jelle Vanendert | | | 53rd | Laurens Ten Dam | | | 75th | Markus Fahnert | | | 89th | Sebastien Rosseler | | | 106th | Paul Martens | | | 119th | Wesley Kreder | | | 122nd | Bas Giling | | | | | | Stage wins | - | | | Other | - | | | | | | 2012 | General Classification | 5th | Ruben Plaza | | | 50th | Wout Poels | | | 52nd | Michel Kreder | | | 69th | Paul Martens | | | 85th | Welle Jallays | | | 87th | Klaas Sys | | | 95th | Jos Van Emden | | | | | | Stage wins | - | | | Other | - | | | | | | 2011 | General Classification | 2nd | Ruben Plaza | | | 23rd | Dominique Cornu | | | 71st | Paul Martens | | | 90th | Klaas Sys | | | 102nd | Michel Kreder | | | 119th | Wout Poels | | | 135th | Bas Giling | | | 146th | Hans Dekkers | | | | | | Stage wins | - | | | Other | -

Spoiler
During the first stage of 2014, Ruijgh and Poels actually tried to set up a sprint for Robert Gesink. Of course, it didn't end up too well
The 2014 Tour of California was Gesink's best race of the season. He finished third in the queen stage of the race
Another third place, this time in the time - trial, secured the 2nd place in the General Classification for Gesink
In 2013, Luis Leon Sanchez only showed himself in the mountain stages. Still, it was enough to finish 6th in the general classification
Plaza's fine time - trial skills got him a top 5 in 2012
It wasn't his best result in the race though as one year earlier, the Spaniard finished 2nd

2015 Goals
Goal: | Top 10 | Race: | Giro di Lombardia | Designed for: | Robert Gesink |
Unlike our other goals, the Giro di Lombardia hasn't exactly been our friend so far. Except for 2013, our results here has been poor to say at least.
Still, 2013 was a great year in the final race of the year for 1t4i, with Gesink finishing in the front group, grabbing the 6th place, while Luis Leon Sanchez also had a good race scoring a top 20.
After a break in 2014, Gesink will be back in the Classic of the falling leaves and will be aiming for a top 10.

Spoiler
Mohamman Saufi Mat Senan was part of the day's breakaway in 2013
Sadly, Gesink wasn't able to fight for the podium in the sprint. Still, the 6th place he got is our best results in Lombardia to date
Wout Poels leading the breakaway in 2012
Meanwhile, in the pack, Gesink was having his usual problems
The rest of the team worked together to bring him back, but the injuries sustained in the crash didn't allow the Dutchman to perform at his regular level

Renewals: Bas Giling and Matej Mohoric leave the team
All of our 2014 riders, except two of them, will enter the transfer season as 1t4i riders. We will have to see how many of them will be staying, but unlike other seasons, we probably won't see to many transfers this time.
The two riders that left the team during renewals were Bas Giling and Matej Mohoric.
Even though we aren't the youngest team in the pack, we don't like having old riders in our team either. Except for when we feel they can really bring something to the table. This wasn't the case with Giling, who even though was one of our best domestiques, riding with the team since 2010 no longer fits into our plans. Hopefully, he will be able to find a new contract during the transfers season.
Unlike Giling, Mohoric was offered a new contract, but he wasn't happy at all with it. The wage he was demanding was way too high for what the team could afford to pay him so we decided to let him go and give him the opportunity to find his place elsewhere. It's a very unfortunate situation since we made a huge effort to get his signature last year.
So long, Matej!

Maybe I shouldn't have rushed into releasing him, but I doubt he would have been an attractive rider for a transfer with a wage even bigger than what he got last year.
And now I see SotD's post...

First moves on the market
By the looks of it, only one rider will be leaving the team this transfer window. And his name is Jarlinson Pantano. The Colombian climber failed to make an impression in his first year in the PT and now he'll go down a level to the Pro Continental Tour. He was very close to sign a contract with the Continental Team, Alpina - Avianca, but eventually he will spend the 2015 in pink with Once.
The first new signing for the 2015 season was the young Dutch sprinter Yoeri Havik. The Dutch rider is yet to reach his full potential. Yoeri is not only a fine sprinter, but can hang on the cobbles too and could prove to be a key domestique for Ramon Sinkeldam in the years to come.
As of now, Yves Lampaert has also joined the team. The Belgian rider will be looking to gain some experience in his first season with a Pro Tour before sharing leadership in the northern classics with Ramon Sinkeldam in the future.
Yves Lampaert will rider his first Paris - Roubaix this year!

Ready for the new season
Following Havik and Lampaert, five more riders joined the team: Danny Van Poppel, Maurits Lammertink, Oleg Berdos, Ramunas Navardauskas, Remco Te Brake. All of them are joining from the Free Agency,
Danny Van Poppel is one of the biggest Dutch talents out there. Still not fully developed, Danny will be the youngest rider in the team and the only one eligible for the Tour de l'Avenir. Van Poppel is set to become one of the best Dutch sprinters and we're looking forward to what he can achieve, especially starting with the 2016 season when he will reach full development.
Maurits Lammertink is a good puncheur. But being a good domestique in the hilly races is not his only quality as he is one of the best riders in the pack when it comes to attacking and going into the right breakaways. We think we can achieve wonderful things if used in the right races. Just like Van Poppel, he has not reached his max stats yet.
Oleg Berdos is the third Romanian to join the team and Nechita and Stancu will have no problem welcoming him to the team even though he is just a Moldavian rider riding with a Romanian license. He's quite decent and all terrains and unlike most climbers he can sprint as well.
Ramunas Navardauskas is one of greatest all-rounders in the World and we are keen to see what he can achieve for our team. Even though he will be a lead-out rider for Wesley Kreder in most of the races, he'll also get plenty of opportunities to ride for himself.
We've spotted Remco Te Brake a few years back, but we never find the perfect moment to actually bring him into the team. Finally, all the right pieces fell into place this year and the Dutch sprinter is one of our riders for the upcoming season.
Full roster for 2015:
Oleg Berdos | | Ramunas Navardauskas | Gianluca Brambilla | | Andrei Nechita | Remco Broers | | Wout Poels | Jonathan Castroviejo | | Joost Posthuma | Koen De Kort | | Daan Rijntjes | Robert Gesink | | Rob Ruijgh | Yoeri Havik | | Ramon Sinkeldam | Sergio Luis Henao Montoya | | George Alexandru Stancu | Wesley Kreder | | Remco Te Brake | Maurits Lammertink | | Ricardo Van der Velde | Yves Lampaert | | Jos Van Emden | Tom Leezer | | Danny Van Poppel | Rafel Majka | | Jelle Vanendert | Paul Martens | | Philipp Walsleben | Bauke Mollema

Robert Gesink is the new European Time - Trial Champion
The 2015 season of the Man Game featured a special start with the Continental Championships being held in the past few days. No real performances from the 1t4i boys, except the European Time - Trial.
There, not only that he was visible, but Robert Gesink managed an amazing win, beating riders like Rein Taaramae, Justo Tenorio, Jerome Coppel, Alexandr Pluchkin, Jacob Fiedler or, his former team - mate, Dominique Cornu.
Winning the race meant that Gesink also qualified for the Intercontinental TTT, where Europe had no problem bringing home the bacon.
As a result of this win, Robert Gesink won't wear the regular 1t4i jersey in any races this season. Robert won the Dutch Road Race Championships last year so in the regular stages we will see him wearing that jersey, while in time - trials he will be wearing the European Champion jersey, a jersey freshly designed by Will007.

We can still win Team Time - Trials!
After a rough start in China and Qatar, we moved our focus in Belgium for the newly created race Omloop Het Volk, featuring 3 cobbled stage, one of which was a team time - trial.
The race started quite well for us with 3 of our riders finishing in the "main" group in the first stage: Leezer, Broers and De Kort. Quite surprising our two main leaders Ramon Sinkeldam and Philip Walsleben weren't there though.
In the second stage it was De Kort and Leezer's time to lose contact with the main group, leaving only Broers in contention for a good place in the general classification.
Having brought a good mixture of cobblers and time - trial specialists here, we were one of the favorites for the closing TTT. And we delivered, by winning the final stage, which brought Remco Broers the fifth place in the overall rankings. De Kort finished 14th, with Leezer in the 15th place.
We almost caught Red Bull's setup in the closing meters of the final stage

Jealousy
But tbh, I guess the key for the TTT here, was to have as many riders inside the Top-30 as possible. Low GC-riders tend to suck in timetrials.. Gratz on a kinda huge result! And it's quite cool to see your team coming back for a TTT-win. As long as you don't beat Oz at the Giro or Copenhagen, I'm okay with it

I think the cobble stats played a bigger role than the TT stats in this time trial.
Thanks and don't worry, we won't come even close to beating you

Most important goal of the season: failed
We started the Vuelta al Pais Vasco with a lot of hopes that Gesink can deliver our winning goal of the season. Having won the race twice in the past and with a fantastic team around him (Vanendert, Sinkeldam, Castroviejo, Navardauskas, Kreder, Martens, Lammertink) the odds seem to be in his favor.
The race started quite well with Kreder winning the pack's sprint to finish fourth in the opening stage, while five of his team - mates also managed to finish in the top 25 of the stage.
Unlike the first day, in the second stage the breakaway was caught and the pack sprinted for the stage win. Kreder wasn't as strong as he was in the previous day, but still managed to get a third place.
In the third stage things started to slip away as most of the favorites made their moves. Gesink decided it will be best to stay in the pack, a decision which he will come to regret as he conceded almost 3 minutes to the stage winner.
Gesink's situation didn't improve in the next two stages and in both occasions he finished more than 3 minutes behind the stage winner. Ramon Sinkeldam was in the day's main breakaway in the fifth stage and he survived it to finish second in the stage.
Our hopes for a stage win turned towards the final time - trial, a stage in which Gesink has 3 victories in the last 3 years. But this time he couldn't even save his race with a stage win as he finished second to Yuri Trofimov. In the end, Gesink finished 5th in the GC, with Jelle Vanendert 25th.
Despite some rather mediocre results in the start of the season, the team was 11th in the team rankings before the race, mostly thanks to Remco Broers who has had a fantastic season so far, finishing 5th in Omloop Het Volk and 7th in East Midlands Cicle Classic.
