I like these introductions to parts of the team, very nicely put together and makes it easy to see the strengths and weaknesses of the squad. Though i must say it makes your squad look quite weak compared to other WT teams. Few big scorers and not exactly the best depth. I think it could be a long slog of a season headed for relegation...

True. He did crash out in 2008 as well though.
While he have ahd good days afterwards I doubt anyone in their right mind will say Antón have found the level of his pre-crash 2010 Vuelta since then...
I would be the first to defend him if I thought he deserved better climbing stats than he has in this DB True. But you could have written he had some noteworthy results but never came back to his old level
And his win in Bilbao should be special for your team becuase of the reasons above

TMM: Thanks. The team is certainly not the strongest on the WT, but it's the strongest possible when sticking to my focus. Also right now it looks worse since I started with the wakest parts of the team
knockout: Thanks.
The Schleck Fan: I could have written a lot of things. I only wrote that he was on an upgoing curve until his crash in 2010. Not that he has sucked completely afterwards - he's just not a potential GT winner anymore.

The Punchers
Finally time to have a look at something we can actualy do: Hills.
The 2013 Punchers | Hi | Acc | Mou | Sta | Antón, Igor | 77 | 76 | 75 | 74 | Sánchez, Samuel | 76 | 73 | 77 | 75 | Nieve, Mikel | 75 | 70 | 77 | 73 | Izagirre, Ion | 75 | 73 | 73 | 73 | Verboven, Rudy | 75 | 73 | 69 | 71 | Izagirre, Gorka | 74 | 73 | 72 | 72 | Verdugo, Gorka | 73 | 72 | 75 | 71 | Landa, Mikel | 73 | 72 | 73 | 71 | Average | 74,8 | 72,8 | 73,9 | 72,5 |
The 2014 Punchers | Hi | Acc | Mou | Sta | Izagirre, Ion | 79 | 73 | 75 | 73 | Verboven, Rudy | 78 | 74 | 69 | 72 | Antón, Igor | 77 | 76 | 75 | 74 | Intxausti, Beñat | 77 | 73 | 77 | 73 | Nieve, Mikel | 75 | 70 | 78 | 73 | De las Campos, Cristiano | 74 | 75 | 77 | 71 | Landa, Mikel | 74 | 72 | 74 | 71 | Izagirre, Gorka | 74 | 73 | 73 | 72 | Average | 76,0 | 73,3 | 74,8 | 72,4 |
Changes | Hi | Acc | Mou | Sta | Change, leader | 2 | -3 | 0 | -1 | Change, Avg Top 3 | 2,0 | 1,3 | -3,3 | -1,0 | Change, Avg All | 1,3 | 0,5 | 0,9 | -0,1 |
So at the bottomline this is another area where we have improved a lot.
Not only is Ion a much stronger leader than Igor was last year but we also have some much better support, which should help us avoid another Ardennes-campaign as disappointing as last years.
The higher number of potential leaders should also be a great help to throw less race-days out the window due to bad luck hitting the lone leader.
This team is set to do great things in our local races.

Nice to see Florencio being a major part of your cobbles squad. I hope he can help you to score some points. I'd really would have liked to keep him at Katusha but the budget wasn't enough to renew him, so I'm happy he found a team to ride in for next season. |

Looking at your last season's squad in these posts I wonder more and more how you managed to avoid relegation.
Your hilly riders look very promising and like all other departments (inclusice mountains) you have improved enough to have a good chance to stay in the PT for another year.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

I think that it came down to an inactive AG2R, an inactive Vacansoleil and a mostly inactive FDJ rather than Euskaltel's racing prowess

Bikex: Happy to have Florencio on board as there's not too many cobblers suiting my focus and there was a fierce battle for the Flemish ones. He will be Verboven's right-hand man through most of the season.
TMM & Knockout: Vacansoleil should have been fairly easily beaten though. While we had some good luck with Sánchez getting a podium in Catalunya we also followed the proud Euskaltel tradition of crashing all over the place all the time.
But we would admittidly have had a hard time surviving if all teams had been active...
At least this year I have the strongest possible Euskaltel.

The Climbers/Stage Racers
Time to have a look at the key aspect of our team throughout history: The Climbers.
The 2013 Stage Racers | Mou | Hi | TT | Rec | Sánchez, Samuel | 77 | 76 | 73 | 74 | Nieve, Mikel | 77 | 75 | 64 | 75 | De las Campos, Cristiano | 77 | 72 | 68 | 70 | Antón, Igor | 75 | 77 | 68 | 72 | Verdugo, Gorka | 75 | 73 | 70 | 72 | Izagirre, Ion | 73 | 75 | 74 | 73 | Martínez, Egoi | 73 | 73 | 68 | 73 | Landa, Mikel | 73 | 73 | 65 | 69 | Average | 75,0 | 74,3 | 68,8 | 72,3 |
The 2014 Stage Racers | Mou | Hi | TT | Rec | Intxausti, Beñat | 77 | 77 | 75 | 75 | Nieve, Mikel | 78 | 75 | 64 | 75 | De las Campos, Cristiano | 77 | 74 | 68 | 70 | Izagirre, Ion | 75 | 79 | 76 | 73 | Antón, Igor | 75 | 77 | 68 | 72 | Zubeldia, Haimar | 74 | 73 | 72 | 72 | Landa, Mikel | 74 | 74 | 65 | 69 | Izagirre, Gorka | 73 | 74 | 67 | 72 | Average | 75,4 | 75,4 | 69,4 | 72,3 |
Changes | Mou | Hi | TT | Rec | Change, leader | 0 | 1 | 2 | 1 | Change, Avg Top 3 | 0,3 | 1,0 | 0,7 | 0,3 | Change, Avg All | 0,4 | 1,1 | 0,6 | 0,0 |
This is another area where we have increased our strength both in top rider level and depth of the squad.
With age starting to have an effect on Sánchez he looked like he could very well be the next no. 11 so we needed a new stage race leader and managed to exchange Samu for Intxausti, who is stronger both in hills and TT's making him an overall better rider. Nieve and De las Campos have both increased in strength as well while Ion have developed into a very strong rider for hilly stage races.
Summary
Cobbles: Significantly improved in both depth and leader
Sprinting: Slightly weakened in both leaders and depth, but better leadoutmen.
TT-Team: Massive improvement in both top and depth.
Punchers: Big improvement in both leaders and depth.
Stage Racers: Somewhat improved both leader and depth.
Which overall makes me optimistic for the season to come. We will have to fight hard in the lower part of the WT-rankings, but we have every chance of improving last years points-score.

The massive improvement is unfortunately in a part that isn't that rewarding compared to others. But I do hope you'll manage another year in the WT

The EHST Season to Come
Will Ion Izagirre be able to dfend his win from last year or will the many newcomers be too much of a challenge?
Soon we will get an idea when the riders once again start the series on the Clasica San Sebastian route. The following races will alternate between being raced in Basque Country and other places with riders in the series. It will also be a priority to alternate between different types of terrain to give all rider types a chance to shine.
But who are the riders? Well unless someone comes up with some real good reasons as to why it should be otherwise this is the teams in alphabetical order:

Teams able to field five riders have been allowed to ride in own colours, except for Movistar as that would make Catalunya unabel to field the needed five riders.
In general Basque riders have been given top priority and all Basques have gotten a spot. For South Africa and Poland the youngest riders not selected for MTN and CCC have been allowed to fill up the national team in stead.
Vlaanderen have so many riders that the same age limit as last year have been imposed to cut down the amount of eligible riders to a reasonable level.

Not sure why Astana should be there, after cutting their team down to 4 Kazakis and none of them in the sqaud.
And Po-ding Kim wouldn't mind riding for Asia, as there are no South Koreans or Japanese guys in the team. Korea had their independence struggles with Japan prior to the Korean War, if that qualifies.
But most of all, good to see this continue!

Personally don't think Grmay should be in the squad, as Ethiopia has never been a colony. Can't think of a proper replacement though

Astani is there thanks to Slovenia, Ireland and Vlaanderen being eligible.
I have considered North Korea, but in the end found that North Korea is a direct continuation of former Korean kingdoms/empires rather than someone, who have gained independence recently. True they were occupied by Japan for a while (which is what made me consider them in the first place), but me feeling from reading up on Korean history is that that was to be consider like most other wars against a foreign aggressor. For me that made the scales tip towards not letting him race. I'm far from an expert on Korean history though. I had similar thought concerning Poland where their role in the dissolution of Soviet made the decision tip in favor of Poland.
Having just read up a bit on the treatment of Korea and Kim Il-Sung's role the struggle for regaining independence during the occupation I might reconsider. Final verdict will be in before the first race begins.

True. Was certain they had been colonized like the rest of the region, so never actually looked it up
Grmay will be removed from the linup.

With the more strict restrictions cutting away riders strictly not from French-Basque there were two riders left in the end of last season. Now I've removed all riders not on a team this year, except for a few needed to fill up a team.
That precedure left only Sicard left, and since I want at least five riders in order to be able to have a TTT without too much hazzle he ended up on Euskaltel - Navarra instead.
The first new jersey can be seen in Jakstar's Graphics thread by the way: https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....st_1017764
Some regions will be riding in a jersey belonging to a suiting sponsor e.g. Air Baltic, some will wear a national kit like Poland and some will have a specially designed jersey.
Hell if someone feels like designing a specific jersey feel free to send me a PM
