Looks like a group has finally managed to break clear, with a two man chase group behind trying to bridge. So in the breakaway for today are Brice Feillu, Giovanni Visconti, Kristijan Durasek, Daniel Oss, Alessandro De Marchi, Blel Kadri and Bartosz Huzarski.
Roughly 33" behind them as of the last time check are Rudy Mollard and Jan Bakelants, with the lead break about 2'35" ahead of the peloton.

The breakaway were indeed later joined by Mollard and Bakelants, only problem is Team Katusha are having none of it and are keeping the break on a short leash currently. Roughly 144 kilometres remaining and the gap is under the three minute mark [~2'55"].

Katusha keeping very high pace. Surely they think Rodriguez can win. Or could it be for Trofimov or even Spilak. |

I think it's for Purito. Plenty of points at the end of the stage. I doubt Trofimov or Spilak can pull off a win in the Tour on a finish like today.

Would have been an exciting stage with Froome and Contador.
Now, I'm not so sure about that.
Curious how Mollema performs today(obviously). Seems to have fully recovered from his illness, so shouldn't be the first GC contender to drop

For once it's kinda interesting though as I consider Zverev to be able to play a big role in the grand slam tournaments of the future.

If I was Katusha I would not put a rider in the break. Then make the team start controlling the time gap so it's no more than 2 minutes when they reach the cat. 1 climb and then launch an attack with Rodriguez.
Good way to battle for KOM points aswell as getting the optimal ckhance of a stage win.
Katusha reads PCM daily. |

Well, they definitely play PCM, so they maybe even read PCMdaily.

Wouldn't be the 2014 Tour de France without Europcar coming to the front to help chase . Though in all seriousness I guess they are looking to set Voeckler up for the King of the Mountains, or maybe Rolland for a crack at the stage\GC later on.

Well the breakaway is certainly looking a bit doomed even before the summit of the Col de Palaquit. Only Jan Bakelants managing to hang in there on Blel Kadri's wheel now it appears.
58 kilometre remaining and the gap is 1'32", blown out a bit again from what it was.

Kangert has been in bad shape. He still has Scarponi and Fuglsang. |
