Yea, next stage is classified as hilly, has a kicker at the end of it, probably looking to get it back then.

Santos Tour Down Under

January 22nd, 2014 : Stage 3

Norwood â€“ Campbelltown: 143.5 kms - Hilly

Stage three might be the flattest of the tour overall, but a tough kicker right at the end classified as a category two likely will be too much for the sprinters as a punchers or even climbers aim to put time on everyone else. A small bunch sprint is probably the most likely outcome.

The early break would feature only two riders, our own Taylor Phinney who would win both intermediate sprints on the day, and Matteo Tosatto for Tinkoff-Saxo.

The pair would later be joined by Pierrick FÃ©drigo of FDJ, and the Polish rider Maciej Bodnar riding on Cannondale.

An attack sparked by FÃ©drigo would take himself and Tosatto away from the other two riders just past the halfway point of the stage.

Phinney would be able to use his time-trialing skills to rejoin the riders, though only for a very short time as he would be dropped again on the climb.

Back to the peloton, it would be Stephen Cummings leading Cadel Evans up the climb with the peloton in tow. Bodnar would be caught very shortly, and so would Phinney.

The attack everyone knew was coming finally did, and only Europcar's Yukiya Arashiro would be equal to his challenge and takes to his wheel.

The pair would quickly go by the remaining two from the breakaway, as Arashiro started to push the pace and see if Evans could hold up to his move.

Cadel would hold on, but not have enough to go around the Japanese rider who takes the stage win. Evans takes second and reclaims his lead overall. The breakaway would slide into 3rd and 4th with the peloton right behind and everyone being ruled to have the same time.

Santos Tour Down Under

January 23rd, 2014 : Stage 4

Unley â€“ Victor Harbor: 149.1 kms - Flat

Stage four is probably the most sprinter friendly route so far, but again a kicker of a hill just one kilometer before the finish line may throw off the pure sprinters and again leave the race to the punchers.

A far less exciting day than before, though the KoM was contested as Ben Hermans is able to ride away from the other four of the breakaway to gain maximum points and finally break the tie for the lead.

Closing down to the finish though the sprint trains would take form, and surprisingly it would be BMC that maintains control with Taylor Phinney drilling the pace at the front. Clearly the DS thinks the punchers have a fighting chance.

But it is a sprinter, Sky's Chris Sutton that takes the win, followed by Anthony Roux of FDJ. The top three in the GC follow next, with Arashiro taking 3rd, Evans in 4th and Pozzato in 5th.
