I predict 1 GC rider gets his race destroyed, everyone else comes in together.

I think one or two will have their race ended. They might not have to abandon but it will be over. Then one or two will lose lots of time but not be completely out of it, similar to Valverde last year. Most finish together and one or two finish quite high up and gain time on most of the others.

Belkin to go all in with Boom and Vanmarcke helping Mollema to try and gain huge chunks of time. Only other GC rider who may try gain time would be Kwiatkowski or Frank Schleck.

It won't be that easy, it's not just a matter of following someone who's good on cobbles, they need to have the legs too.
Plus, a bit of luck too to avoid crashes and punctures. |

If Andy Schleck could follow Cancellara in 2010, this year's GC favorites shouldn't have any trouble following their cobble helpers

You're forgetting there was a huge crash in 2010 that took out most of the field. That also played into Andy's favor. The point is one does not simply ride behind Cancellara, Vanmarke, et al. and magically fly through the cobblestones. There is a lot more to it, and if the conditions are going to be as nasty as it looks like then someone who is not experience on the cobblestones trying to stick with the big guns could end up being worse in the long run... |

The fact Andy could follow Cancellara is because Fabian didnt even go flatout. If he did no one would be able to follow from that group maybe Hushovd. He was shepherding him through. Tomorrow Cancellara will probably go flatout. |

If I were the Belkin DS, I'd have Boom, Wynants, Leezer and Tankink protecting Mollema and let Vanmarcke go for the stage win.
Anyway, tomorrow should be a really great stage. Can't wait for it

So far, Contador & Tinkov squad have kept themselves always at the front, even pacing the peloton for the sake of avoiding crashes. So I have little worries about Contador. He should be fine, especailly since he has done good on cbs before. Amyhoo... excited for tomorrow,, will be a goodie

So I'm pegging GVA for this one, as I think BMC will let him ride for himself (Burghardt stays with TVG). And like Cancellara I think he is in great form (2nd on stage 2). Length of the stage isn't near as big of an issue as the classics where Cancellara is actually able to out-sprint people at 250k+.
They also have Schär and Oss who are very capable on the cobbles to help out Tejay and Greg.

Frank Schleck's win would feel so weird.

No one seems to have mentioned Chavanel here? This is surely his goal for the whole Tour.

Ready for the fun today.
The weather will be very important, but i see lot of people see this as some RoubaixV2, while there are only short and not hardest sections, apart that toughest one. So i dont see Cance or Vanmarcke tearing it whole apart to single riders coming to finish, but anything can happen.
I would say Kristoff, Sagan, Degenkolb from the reduced bunch (10people), but that climb near the finish looks ideal for monster dig, should be fun. Sagan will maybe again be happy with some 2-5th place for the points, but stage win would be nice.
From GC favourites, i expect Contador and Valverde to be the strongest.

I expect Froomey to lose a lot. He can't even handle his bike on the asphalt what is left for the cobbles. Valverde&Contador + one or two GC riders to gain some time on the rest. Otherwise Cance and Vanmarcke break away and sprint to win. (not such a strong competition to chase them back unlike in Roubaix)

Chavanel never seems to go well on Roubaix cobbles. His best result is 8th place. He doesn't seem in great form now either so I can't see him do anything. Maybe hell be in the breakaway. |

BTW from earlier...
Being a teammate and protecting your leaders has a new part to its job description. Looks to me like he clearly moves over to hit they guy to ensure Kittel doesn't get hit.

Cancellara has been given green flag by team. So he does not have to ride for Frank Schleck or Zubeldia like 2009. So that makes it easy for him, really.
Also teams of TST and Astana will try to make it very difficult for Froome who crashed yesterday. Expect one or 2 GC guys to lose like 1-2 min.
Kwatowski on other hand is likey to gain good time. |

Chavanel to get himself into a break and win.

I have a hard time figuring this one out. Clearly there will be crashes and punctures which can change everything. Luckily there is no Euskaltel here to disrupt it all.
I can't really figure if Cancellara has the manpower to really tare up the pack, in terms of getting only 10-20 guys with him to the end. It could, for what its worth, be a group of 70-80 riders. And if it is the sprint will probably be between Demare, Kristoff, Degenkolb, Sagan, Haussler, Petit and Kwiatkowski... I have no clue about Albasini. Can he cobble well?
