Which sprinters should be able to make this selection? Clearly Sagan will, but can sprinters such as Kristoff, Demare, Coquard and Degenkolb stick to the front?
I have a really tough time fingering this out.
I suspect that riders such as Sagan, Cancellara, Kwiatkowski, Gerrans, Albasini, Valverde, Mollema, Navardauskas, Rogers, Slagter, Bakelants and possibly Joaquin Rodriguez will be well suited for this stage.
After recon Degenkolb has apparently ruled himself out for it but that might be a bluff of course. Having said that some reputable sources are doubting Sagan will make it but if I were to bet I'd still go for him.
9 categorised climbs but more than twice that if you add in all the uncategorised ones so the repetition could be decisive.

I definitly wouldn't expect any true sprinters to make the cut today. The stage this reminds me most of is stage 6 of last years Tirreno, where Sagan won ahead of Nibali and Rodriguez with the next group being more than 40 seconds away and Froome losing the overall. Of course the rain made the big difference that day, but that doesn't seem out of the world today as well, and if it does indeed rain, I would definitly expect some gaps between the GC contenders and one of the few opportunities for Nibali and Contador to drop Froome, with Sagan still winning probably, as he did at Tirreno. And even if it doesn't rain I wouldn't expect more than 10, at most 20 Riders to contest the final sprint, with at least some outside GC contenders losing some time allready.

Sagan will win it if he and Cannondale can control it coming into that last climb, teams like Trek and OGE will be trying to make it as hard as possible for him and try drop as many of his teammates as possible so he has to work to bring back anyone of the front. Albasini looks like a good back up for OGE if Gerrans hasn't got it for today, Cancellara has already shown he is up for a fight aswell. Should. be good racing and great work by the organises to throw in a stage like this so early in the race.

What a blow for him and the team
On the other hand, gives OPQS a free role, I reckon. Bakelants, Kwiatek, Tony Martin can show some nice things! |

Manager team-related question: Is today's stage too hard for Degenkolb? Surely too hard for Kittel?

Kittel will just ride with the groupetto as he has no chance of getting over the climbs with the leaders and Dagenkolb is a 50/50 chance, I think they will go to hard for him to hang on but if for some reason they take it easy he could certainly be in the finish

Now after Cav's withdrawal Kwiatek should gain full support of OPQS (with some occasional breaks), so this Tour looks promising for him, especially today's stage

Simon Gerrans update:
"I am obviously still sore but I honestly feel better than when I woke up. I am still hopeful that I can be up there for today, we'll give it a good crack." |

So, can we make bets on which stage Tony Martin will make a crazy solo breakaway attack way over 100 km?

Barriers all up the final climb Jenkin Road - no chance for idiots to interfere. I've got my spot!
