Tour de San Luis | Stage 3

Today it's the first of three hilly stages. The difficulty of the race is Alto de Nogoli. The top is 2084 meters over the sea. On this 25km long climb, it might be a good chance for the climbers team to set high pace so the punchers fall off.
oi57.tinypic.com/9zon7o.jpg

Today we'll be going for Armindo Valencia. If he don't loose to much time today, we think he can earn it back in tomorrows TT. We don't think Raimondo will hold in, the profile is simply to hilly for him.

oi61.tinypic.com/1zf7fko.jpg
We saw Ag2r taking control over the race at once. They surely trust Bardet. We also saw QPQ and CJR pacing.

oi61.tinypic.com/2nhno01.jpg
The BOTD consisted of 6 riders today:
C.Lemonie (COF)
Y.Godoy(AND) (+32)
M.Quinziato (BMC)
M. Wynants (BEL)
V.Conti (LAM)
A. Malori (MOV) (+32)

Lemonie was the only rider sprinting at 1st sprint.

oi61.tinypic.com/qrnj1x.jpg
Godoy won the first KoM, and breakaway now had 6:30 to the peleton

oi60.tinypic.com/2hga2s8.jpg
Up the second we saw Quinziato and Conti struggeling to keep up with the others. They came up many times, but in the end they was dropped completely.

oi57.tinypic.com/2yzcykj.jpg
We saw Godoy taking the Alto de Nogoli, but the BOTD had lost 3 min advantage to the peleton

oi59.tinypic.com/17pz0i.jpg
The peleton was destroyed on the top, with only 50 riders left. We had 4.

In the bottom of the decent, the breakaway had been gathered again, but they had lost another minute to the peleton. And Wynants won the sprint.

oi58.tinypic.com/vevqx0.jpg
When we hit 5km left and the bottom Mirador del Potrero, Quinziato had made a gap to the BOTD. It was still 1min to the peleton for them.

oi61.tinypic.com/11109dv.jpg
Nordhaug was the first to attack, but it was a real mess with riders attacking everywhere

oi60.tinypic.com/51bo8n.jpg
500m to go and Bardet has caught Nordhaug, do he have any energy left to beat him?

oi61.tinypic.com/23wsjt.jpg
No, Nordhaug kept him away and won! And Malori graps the last podium place. Valencia came in in top of the peleton

oi61.tinypic.com/30vc7jn.jpg
2:43 behind Nordhaug, comes a beaten Raimondo. He faught really hard today, but he didn't have the legs up the last climb. But on the bright side, he keeps his green jersey for another day.

Tour de San Luis | Stage 4

Today it's the only TT in Argentina. Today is the chance for those with GC hope, but not as good climbers to grab some time onto the climbers. This stage will be especially useful for L.L. Sanchez and R.Dennis to grab some time to Nordhaug and Bardet.

oi62.tinypic.com/w0revr.jpg
Valencia isn't among the favorites today, but if he has a good day we'll be looking for a top 5 finish. Mastronicola must neither be underestimated.

oi57.tinypic.com/8zjyig.jpg
K.Vandewalle was the first favourite to set off. He took the lead at Chorono.1 with the time 10:36. He finished at the time 26:05. 2 sec in front of Irzar.

oi60.tinypic.com/213np1g.jpg
Our 1st man, Van Hulten, came in 49s behind Vandewalle. At the moment 5th. Quinziato as next favourite disappointed. 12'' behind at 1st checkpoint.

oi62.tinypic.com/352he06.jpg
With 29 riders left to go, S. Clement shared the time with Vandewalle. But B.Jungles beat the intermediate time, new best is 10:32. For us, Raimondo finishes 26'' behind Vandewalle.

oi59.tinypic.com/2qkm0q1.jpg
But the time didn't stay for long as B.Jungles finished 13'' in front, new leader time 25:52. But we can look froward for more. R.Dennis came into Crono 1, 17'' in the lead.

oi61.tinypic.com/29xt05.jpg
Just after Bardet had started, Valencia finished. 10'' off Jungles!! Surely a great performance by the young Spaniard. But down the road came Bakelants, Dennis and Sanchez.

oi58.tinypic.com/vpu4xl.jpg
And Dennis crushed all his opponents, finishing stunning 43'' in front of Jungles. Not even L.L. Sanchez could beat that.

oi57.tinypic.com/9zo7qp.jpg
Down the road, Malori (3rd overall, +38), was only 3'' off Dennis time. And with Nordhaug coming in 30'' behind Dennis, and Bardet 39'' off. He is the favorite of wearing yellow tomorrow.

And as Malori finished 11'' off Dennis' time, all hoped seemed lost for Nordhaug and Bardet. Nordhaug came 1:20 behind, while Bardet came 1:43 behind. Malori now had the jersey. We got Valencia on a 7th place as our best rider. He's 11th overall, but only 20'' away from number 5, Pellizotti

Tour de San Luis | Stage 5

oi60.tinypic.com/bhk54x.jpg
Today it's the only mountain stage in San Luis. Today it's the day to maybe even win the yellow jersey. Malori will probably loose it today. We hope to get Valencia to get into a top 10 after this stage.

www.procyclingstats.com/races/profilesmaps/2014-01/Tour-de-San-Luis-Stage-4-1389798568.png
Today's stage has one major difficulty, the Cerro El Amago. 10,5 km long, avrg % at 7,2, but some sectors over 11%. There are 19 kilometers after it, but if you are too far behind after this climb, it's goodbye yellow jersey.

oi61.tinypic.com/2ut2pzc.jpg
Today we finally got our jerseys! And to "celebrate", we sent Van Hulten in the BOTD. The BOTD was

R. Torres(COL)
R. Navardauskas (GRS)
J. Van Hulten (DIA)
J. Hoogerland (AND)

oi58.tinypic.com/b9bv5y.jpg
Van Hulten took the sprint, without competition. The BOTD had a lead with about 6:30, but they were being reeled in slowly by Ag2r, probably riding for Bardet.

oi59.tinypic.com/nlofsx.jpg
But action started at once the peleton hit the false flat before Cerro El Amago. 7 of the biggest GC contenders attacked, and their names
F. Pellizotti (5)
L.P. Nordhaug (2)
B. Jungles (8)
L.L. Sanzhez (9)
R. Bardet (3)
A. Malori (1)
G. Brambilla (7)
But Garmin rode them back again. What a waste of energy.

oi61.tinypic.com/2zp1lhi.jpg
When the BOTD hit Cerro, their lead had shrunk to 1:30. They were surely going to get caught. Van Hulten lost their wheels at the very beginning of the climb, sadly.

oi62.tinypic.com/ogl65v.jpg
An attack from Pellitzotti started the GQ race, and with 2,7 km to the top, he had a gap around a minute to Gr. Bardet. Malori had been dropped from the group.

oi60.tinypic.com/dcvdzr.jpg
At the top of the climb, Valencia attacked! He was joined by Brambilla. Together they had 2min to Pellizotti and 45'' to Gr. Bardet.

oi59.tinypic.com/qyyds0.jpg
5 km to go, and Valencia/Brambilla is getting caught. Pellizotti however is still 2min in front of them

oi59.tinypic.com/2whjp1i.jpg
And Pellizotti made it! He held is gap in 1:30 to the finish. The main GC contenders are just staring at each others after the finish.

Losing points classification by 3 points. That sucks.

But beside that it was a good ride by the team

Tour de San Luis | Stage 6

oi62.tinypic.com/w1pw4.jpg
Today is the last day of GC fighting. The race ends in Mirador del Sol, though not as tough as yesterdays climb it should make some gaps. I don't know if it's enough to beat Pellizotti we will see.

oi60.tinypic.com/9urucl.jpg
A big break was made today, including
C. Lemonie (COF)
K. Vandewalle (TFR)
F. Wegmanm (GRS)
P. Voss (TNE)
A. Delaplace (BSE)
F. Ferrari (CJR)
G. Izagirre (MOV)
P. Vakoc (QPQ)

oi62.tinypic.com/20s9jbq.jpg
P. Voss won the mountain sprint, while Lemonie and Izaquirre won each their sprint.

oi61.tinypic.com/2117ywh.jpg
10 km to go and the leading trio in the break has 2:50 to the peleton. Can this go? We know the leaders will pace hard up Mirador del Sol.

oi57.tinypic.com/somio1.jpg
The peleton hit the climb, 2:30 behind the BOTD.

oi59.tinypic.com/m6i2x.jpg
Hitting the steepest parts, the BOTD had 1:10 to the group of GC contenders, where we was represented by Valencia!

oi60.tinypic.com/5oa64j.jpg
2 km to go and Valencia is still keeping up with the big guys! He is determined to get a top result here!

oi57.tinypic.com/2zzpb43.jpg
Flame rouge. Valencia isn't the best placed as the sprint starts, but can he catch the leaders?

oi57.tinypic.com/2n8o4dd.jpg
No, Bakelants simply became too strong for him. But a great sixth place for Valencia.
Down the road comes riders completely beaten like Anton, Sanchez and Feillu. Just to mention a few.

Valencia should be happy with his Overall performance here in Argentina Smile

Dusen
8th spot. Great job.

Now you just need to secure the green jersey, then San Luis have been a great succes for you Smile

kqyt
@Dusen: Lets hope that AND tired out Belletti yesterday

@sutty: Yes, bet he is! Only bad positioning has ruined his top 5 hope

Tour de San Luis | Stage 7

oi57.tinypic.com/2qw1jxu.jpg

Last stage here in Argentina. The GC contenders should not have any work to do here, but for the sprinters it will be really important to win today. We have De Filippi here looking for a green jersey. But to get it, he need to take 9 points Dennis.

oi60.tinypic.com/2q87n7q.jpg
Today we also saw a big break, 8 riders. None of the teams really wanted to set a high pace in the peleton. The riders in the BOTD
P. Vakoc (OPQ)
M. Kohler (BMC)
P. Voss (TNE)
A. Gerard (BSE)
K. Vandewalle (TFR)
M. Montaguti (ALM)
R. Valls (LAM)
F. Ferrari (CJR)

oi58.tinypic.com/o5z81v.jpg
Ferrari won the KoM, Montaguti won the first sprint while Valls won the second sprint. Not much happened until 30 km to go, über pace in the peleton.

oi59.tinypic.com/5oypsp.jpg
13 km to go and the break still has a 1:40 lead! This will be close!

oi60.tinypic.com/s1hx0h.jpg
2 km to go and still 50'' for the BOTD, lead by Gerard. The BOTD seems to get the win. Behind we have De Filippi, completely without helpers. Maybe he will loose the green?

oi60.tinypic.com/2qup00z.jpg
Flame rouge. Valls vs Gerard. Peleton seems too far behind. The high pace have killed them all.

oi61.tinypic.com/k9e0jm.jpg
200 meters, advatage Gerard. Green is lost for De Filippi, or is it? He only need 9 points(7th place) to it. And now he's caught the break.

oi60.tinypic.com/23w8mrq.jpg
Victory for Gerard! But more important for us, De Filippi takes 5th! He now got green!

Some thoughts about Tour de San Luis

Before the race we had a sponsor goal about getting a top ten, which we managed. The race started very good with De Filippis win on the first stage. He also showed us a good sprint in stage two. But already from the first stage, we saw lacks in our sprint train. We still have a inexperienced team, but this was not good. He'd often had to find other sprinters wheels. He also showed his capability to sprint in the last stage, where he out sprinted everyone.

Valencia did an awesome job here. We still have to work on his placement though. He didn't get any top five results, but a few top 10. I think he was in good form compared to the others, but he didn't have the luck with daily forms.
