I honestly dont think it a wise idea to incorporate new cycling genres into this release. They would've been better served to have invested more time in improving the all round performance of PCM before venturing off into another dimension. Perhaps it wouldve been better to have kept them as 2 seperate releases.
Instead they should've incorpated the Olympic Road Race and TT into this version as something different.

But what makes sales - the same thing just improved, or being able to say you've got a brand new feature.

I think a lot of people often forget Cyanide is a company - they have to make money, so they;ve got to have new things to get people excited and into it - remember, the size of the community compared to the number who buy is quite small, so most people who buy won't ever really ask for improvements

So basically, Cyanide is making a company development strategy chance, now only the same 90% code instead of the same 95% code.

I've said it a million times and I'll say it again: Cyanide focuses on the EA strategy: if it can't be advertised as a feature, it's only in the game if it takes very little time and resources to do.

It's a strategy. there are others. Creative Assembly makes a point of incorporating every fan suggestion that they possibly can. resulting in a devout fan base.

It's bad for the fans, it may be bad or good for business depending on the situation

Only do the EA solution if you have the resources to afford a setback or have some sort of large sports franchise behind you (no, TdF is not large enough). I dont think Cyanide can claim to have either.

And Creative Assembly: God dammit, they deserve having a devout fan base with the games they make.

First rule of Software Engineering: No matter how many features your product has or how unbelievably good it is, upon release, forums will instantly be filled with "it sucks" posts.

Check Crysis forums. "It sucks. Half-Life is so much better".

then check Half-Life forums: "It sucks. Crysis is so much better"

They both suck. Crysis makes blue smoke come out of my computer, and Half-Life gives me headcrab-induced nightmares. They also both fail to have proper multiplayer. Anyhoo!

PCM08? It sucks!

Crysis sucks because it's too short. Half-Life sucks because the guy on the cover is the spitting image of a teacher I can't stand. He's evil, I tell you!! Evil!!

everything sucks, basically Pfft

Well my understanding is that Cyanide has had some serious financial problems of late. If I read the information from last year correctly. It nulifies the argument about company and profit. They are struggling. It has more to do with corporate image and the perception around the community that they really dont give a s*** about what the communities demand.
If you rectify the obvious flaws in the beginning and be more attentive to what the market demands then it become the simple law of supply and demand. Make a really good product that satisfys the market place, people will talk , you sell more units and your profit margin increases. What seems to be missing in a lot of these common argments is "word of mouth". If people think your product is rubbish then they'll usually communicate that to others. I dont care if its a washing machine, a car or a small genre video cycling game.
I think its back to basics. Sure a lot of what people suggest is fantasy, but there is still a large sector that demands practical and simple changes to make the game "enjoyable". Get everything right before you become all too consumed by new ideas. I can honestly say, Cyanide are not going to sell any more units this time around than they did last year, just because they include Track Cycling. Its irrelevant.
A company that jumps on problems before they become problems can expect to be around for the long haul. Those that put 2 bit concepts together, fail in design and research and constantly disappoint are in for a rude shock. I hate to condemn Cyanide, because at least they have produced "my kind of game". I have a passion for cycling and a similar for computers and graphics. Im glad that something exists to cater for both tastes. However, I think this game has so much potential. It's disappointing to have to wait 12 months at a time to see even the most simple of things change. For example. 1 texture per rider. A really good idea. Why would you remove such a feature?????? When you know that people in the community are going to add rider profiles at some point to make the game more realistic. Then the following year take that away.
That's not good business sense. That's not good development sense. That's not even good programming sense. There is a common phrase in life. "If it's not broken, then dont fix it". Some people need to take note.

I think that Cyanide is making a big progress developing track cycling, i hope the new 3d mode will be better than this one,but i think that Cyanide has a good chance of correctiong the game for 2008, if the game sucks probably nobody is going to buy another versions, i would say that's the last opportunity for Cyanide after the last games
The biggest problem about pcm is the fact there's no pressure, it's by far the top cycling game(if exists another)

I agree. PCM2008 definately shows promise. For starters the 3D model and texturing is 100 times better than anything previous. But motion capture technology and 3D modelling have come on in leaps and bounds in the past 5 - 6 years, so this could've been something they should've implemented years ago. Your right about pressure. I wouldve thought as a Manager based game, that was the primary objective. To have to really think about G.C riders, your team , a race and a stage. Have to implement a strategy and feel the pressure. That is still lacking.
Although 2 different sporting genres. NFL Madden 2007 for example. You sit there. Very much a part of the game. Thinking up plays and strategies to win. Cycling has its own pressures. Getting the right team together. Chasing a break away. Getting your top riders where they need to be. Fixing problems as they arise.
That "chess" element is missing from PCM. Hopefully it manifests itself somewhere in future releases.

I think he means pressure from another franchise challenging to be the best Cycling game. Like EA sports and 2k Sports (until EA brought them out lol)

When you think about it that way,all those problems are far to easy to solve ...chasing a breakaway..getting your top rider where they need to be..should be harder and more technical.while on the other hand things like 'fitness' and thereabouts are a bit more of a task.
Anyone agree that the sountrack needs to be changed??

yes Darkphoenix, i think that if were a fight like Fifa vs Pes it would make Cyanide to improve the game, or they start to losing fans to theyr rival

Yuo do know you can add your own music in Wink

That's probably why Cyanide don't feel they need to change it
