It won't matter since he is going to get a penalty anyway. |

Peleton split in 3 groups because of that Last turn crash. |

Meersman finished 110th in the group 18 seconds back, but I'd say they will get the same time because of the crash at the end.
And as has been said, Meersman is likely to get some sort of penalty anyway. |

As an aside Peloton Watch has the best updates for every race imaginable. Almost kinda scary if (as I think it is) it's just one guy doing it - I'm not complaining though! |

Ahh two crashes in two days for EBH, really impressive from Hofland, didn't expect pace like that but he has been in good form |

Boom has a minor fracture in his right elbow after a crash during the race.

Official website still has the gaps in place, has anyone seen any confirmation that they will remain? Tsatevich and Wackermann got their time loss removed at least. |

Far enough after the event now that they are highly likely to be set in stone. |

Maxime Bouet also a bit angry about the small time gaps. In especially on that course.
He tweeted/asked if there is any new rule as teh 3km rule seems to be not valid for todays stage.
Jerome Pineau`s answer was that next time you probably need to fall as well and you will get the same time as the winner.
Don`t really get those gaps to be honest as we had this so many times before and always the gaps were deleted in the end. |

Avermaet in 16th place was given 5 more seconds then the first group. But if you notice the video posted here, Hofland cuts the line at 3:30 and there is a 2 second gap between the last man on the first group (3:33) and Avermaet (3:35).
Avermaet has the same time than only 3 other riders and deciding to create a 2 second gap between them and the 47 men who arrive next is even more stupid. |

So they followed the rules then?

Today we had a chaotic finish with crashes and gaps everywhere. Moreno Hofland (BEL) surprisingly took the stage win, while Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ) keeps the yellow.
Tomorrow comes another flat stages. While echelons are still possible, it will most likely end in another mass sprint. Will Bouhanni increase his lead, will Degencolb finally take that win and take yellow or will Meersman take revenge for the events that happened today? You'll see it tomorrow. |

Agree but herein lies the problem. If the implications of rules were thought through properly and they were applied consistently then there wouldn't be a problem. This starts with the UCI and goes from there.
Whether it be time gaps, the new stick to the road rule or anything else - consider the practicality, implement the rule and then enforce it consistently for the whole season. There's been so much convenient turning a blind eye over the years, not least from the rule maker itself the UCI, that no-one knows where they stand. Hence complaints all round when a rule is applied 1 in 20 times. |

One gets the time of his group. That there were 2 seconds or 5 minutes between Avermaet and the guy immediately in front of him doesn't matter, Avermaet gets his own time (as he leads his own group), the guy in front of him gets the time of the first guy of his group. 5 seconds between the first guy of the group before him and himself means 5 seconds gap on G.C. |

Meersman won`t start today. Might be angry about his time loss. Not sure if he got injured as well?
Boeckmanns also abandons with a mild concussion. |
