New Zealand Cycle Classic
Review Article
The first race of the season for Synergy Baku ended without a win. But the team shouldn't worry as there were a number good performances to talk about.
Firstly Phil Lavery. Lavery was the unsung hero on many of the sprint stages protecting Maksym Averin. Lavery was also responsible for placing Averin in the right place and placing him on the right wheel. Unfortunately Averin was unable to finish the great team work with a win.
Averin was first pipped to the line first by Canada's Ryan Anderson on stage 4 and then by Italy's Mattia Gavazzi. The Ukrainian will now have to keep his form going as he heads to the Middle East to ride the Tour of Oman.
Averin said "It is disappointing to miss out on two stage wins by a few centimetres but I was beaten by two brilliant sprinters. It was my first race of the season so I am very optimistic ahead of my first season at this new team."
The DS said "Averin is very unlucky not to get the team's first ever stage wins here in New Zealand. But these performances only adds to the hunger and determination to grab that first win, something I feel the team or Averin will not have to wait too long for."
Up next for Synergy Baku is the Herald Sun Tour

Review Article
Synergy enjoyed a 3 top to finishes in Australia during the past week. Lavery sprinting to 7th on both of the sprint stages and Lane in his home race finishing 6th on stage 3 into Bendigo.
Lane also finished 10th overall 41 seconds behind eventual winner Anthony Roux of FDJ. The field was strong here with World Tour teams such as Team Sky, Trek and Cannondale.
Lane said "To be part of a successful breakaway on stage 3 but not winning does hurt but I have to take courage in hanging on to a top 10 placing."
Lavery said "To be given an early chance to be lead sprinter with Averin missing was brilliant for me. There were many sprinters with moe experience and were stronger than me. So to get 2 7th place finishes shows where I am at the moment."
Next race for Synergy Baku is: Tour of Oman

Stage 2- Fanja in bidbid to Al Bustan
Race Overview
A break of 3 went away inside the first 20km, they were:

It was a hard working group with all three sharing the workload. They had got a max gap of 5"34 before the peleton wheeled them in and eventually caught them with 15km to go.
The hill at the end of stage played havoc with the sprint. But not for Synergy Baku who can celebrate tonight after winning their first ever win. M aksym Averin came past Valverde and Frank to complete win.

Stage 3- Nakhal Fort to Wadi Dayqah Dam
Race Overview

Quinziato
Vinter
De Vreese
The hard working group managed to get a huge gap of 8"10 but they knew it would be another day for the sprinters and they were quickly reeled back in ready for another showdown.
A slight uphill finish caught the best of the sprinters out and it was left for to a shootout between Valverde, Averin and Haussler. But Valverde showd his experience to sprint to victory ahead of Haussler and Averin.

Nice results , maybe you should try to get more riders in the BOTD, expecially when your best sprinters will have to sprint against Cavendish |
