Interesting goals. I suppose we will meet during transfers, because of a rider that should achieve them for you. I have Japan cup goal you know.
Just a Japan Cup goal? I need him for three, so I obviously need him more.
I have a feeling his wage could go as high a last season, with you not the only one to declare an interest. No problem, I've got plenty of cap space to fill. Will see you at the bidding war. |

Renewals
We were pleasantly surprised as our first ever renewals concluded, with nearlly all our riders taking a pay cut, to allow a large budget to recruit new riders for the 2014 season. Four riders weren't offered a contract, and we thank them for their services but their time here had clearly run it's course.
Some riders took such large cuts that they changed the managers mindset on their future in a positive way. The new wages:
Rider | Old Wage | New Wage | Transfer Status | Yasmani Martinez | 265.000 | 160.000 | Staying | Fredrik Strand Galta | 160.000 | 125.000 | Available (81MO Maxed) | Zakayo Ndbri | 165.000 | 90.000 | Staying | Tarik Chaoufi | 111.000 | 60.000 | Staying | Daan Rijntjes | 50.000 | 55.000 | Available (75TT) | Nico Schinker | 50.000 | 55.000 | Available (77SP) | Daniel Njoroge | 50.000 | 50.000 | Staying | Suleiman Kangangi | 50.000 | 50.000 | Staying | Hillary Kiprotich | 50.000 | 50.000 | Staying | Riadh Ghdamsi | 50.000 | 50.000 | Staying | Matthew Brammeier | 50.000 | 50.000 | Available (74SP, 77AC) |

Aaah, well, I'll see you quite often. We can expect some really epic battles on the African Tour, but I've got a feeling that the riders you're targeting will be suited better for the profiles. Nonetheless... Never realised Martinez was on such a big salary

aidan Yes, we should have some great battles, in races and also in transfers. Africa is pretty wide open, what happens really depends on who we can sign. And Martinez did indeed have a crazy salary last year, needed a stage racer and got caught in a bidding war. Thankfully it's a bit lower now.
Manx Not that surprising seeing that its been news for a while. Bought him on impulse last year, and he went straight to Adira so I'm not that attached. Should make me some nice money/help me bag a leader in transfers |

First Signings Arrive
With the transfer season now underway, Kenya Airways have been very busy with their dealings over the previous few days, trying to build a competitive team ahead of the 2014 season. This afternoon the first riders put pen to paper, with more expected to follow in the next few days. Here are those who will race for the team next year!
Simon Kimeli | Wage: 50.000 | Age: 27 | Skills: 74 MO, 71 HI |
Simon is a rider that we noticed last year while training in the Kenyan mountains. He easily kept with some of the best climbers in the team so we have decided to sign him for this season. With his great climbing ability and low wage we are very happy to have his signature.
Johann van Zyl | Wage: 50.000 | Age: 23 | Skills: 70 HI, 69 CB |
A talented rider who has impressed many on the African circuit this year, we are happy to have secured Johann's signature. He can be a valuable domestique this year but he still has plenty of room to improve; we think he could be a great puncheur one day.
Redouane Chaabane | Wage: 50.000 | Age: 28 | Skills: 73 HI, 70 Mo |
With us switching to a hilly focus this year, we decided to look for a domestique who could support us regularly on that terrain this year. Redouane fit the bill, coming very cheap and also having a very decent Mountain stat he can be a valuable rider.
That's all for now, but more transfers are rumoured to be reaching a deal in the last few minutes. We'll keep you posted!

Nice! Good value for money there! So happy that us African teams could organise things between us so that we haven't had any bidding wars! Huge thanks to you and SN in that regard.
Interesting to see you train Van Zyl as a puncheur. I was thinking a mix between the 'hills' and 'classics' training programme won't be all that bad. Good increase in hill stat and a bit of a boost of cobbles too But he's all yours, so whatever!

Yeah, Van Zyl would do well with classics training, but of course if he doesn't see a future on cobbles anyway...
I'm excited to see which other transfers you were able to make!

aidan - It's great that we don't have to overpay for domestiques, indeed. Van Zyl could be trained a bit on cobbles as well, but I think his primary stat will be hills
Cio - We are a professional team and will wait until our deals are sealed!

You spelled Kimeli wrong. It took me some time to figure out who you meant
Three nice signings btw! Johann van Zyl is really cool, and can be all sort of different types of rider. He can even become a very decent GC rider with a bit of additional training, besides the obvious 76COB or 77HI rider. Or combine the stats to make him 74HI and 75COB. I like those riders where you haven't a pre-destined route - Congrats mate!

Thanks, I guess it's getting late.
I won't decide on what training he'll receive yet of course, but those are three good options. I'm happy I have that flexibility. |

Wegmann Signs With Team Kenya Airways
Fabian Wegmann | Wage: 185.000 | Age: 34 | Skills: 75 HI, 73 SP |
Over the past few minutes it has become clear that African squad Kenya Airways have secured the signature of German veteran Fabian Wegmann! Joining after his Sram-Riboxx ream folded at the end of last year, the German put pen to paper on a lucrative 185.000 euro wage this evening.
Team manager Froomedog has told the media "We are very happy to acquire Fabian's services this year. He brings plenty of experience and will be able to lead the team in places with him still being very solid on hills and in sprints despite his age. His signing is a step forward for this team."

Thanks again. He should be a great rider this year still and will hopefully bring me some points as well as supporting in the hills. Nice to get him sealed nice and early as well, though he may be bid up with all the German teams. |

And this Kenyan air business has enough money to sponsor a cycling team? That's quite suprising |

Nice signing with Wegmann! Good value for money in a free agency market that is absolutely crazy!

Yves - I guess they do. Their owner is a bit of a cycling fanatic
aidan - Thanks again. It isn't amazing value but it's better than some of the crazy deals at the moment |

Mwangi Samwel Joins Kenya Airways!
Mwangi Samwel | Wage: 300.000 | Age: 30 | Skills: 79 MO, 80 RC |
Today is a big day for Team Kenya Airways - after signing four riders yesterday including Fabian Wegmann, we have now secured the biggest and best Kenyan rider around in the form of Mwangi Samwel! He comes from Pro Tour team Vesuvio - Acculamux, in a swap deal that sees Fredrik Strand Galta go the other way.
He is a well known mountain goat, and is good friends with Zakayo Ndbri who already rides for the team. His abilities on this terrain should see him leading us this year whenever we hit the big mountain ranges where weaker riders can't keep up. Looks like we can look forward to a more positive result at the Kenya Mountain Classic this year! |

Great signing obviously. I am looking to meet Mwangi in mountains with Popovych.

I will be very selective where he races, anything with a TT with be a no-go, so maybe he won't meet Popovych so much. We'll see anyway, theres only a limit to the number of Mountainous races we can race. Now regretting not choosing band 3 of the HC because I thought he wasn't available. I guess he'll have to race a lot of C1 ones instead! |
