Great stage win for Barguil, hopefully it's a sign of things to come from the team this season.
And I was thinking more along the lines of a sprinter that would offer great hills support, best example I can give would be either EBH or how Degenkolb can deal with cobblestones.

@ sutty: yes that is a win!
@ Shonak: well, a look at Warren progression this quarter may change your view
@ sammyt: that will put you in option B too. I'll post riders stats tomorrow.
Key Stages
Stage 8 – ITT – 46 km
Dal Compare had well resisted so far in hills and mountain but he lost more than 3’ today and is down 9th in GC while Sutherland 2nd place offered him a 11’ lead on Cano Ardila.
Stage 1 | Rory Sutherland | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | Stage 2 | Alejandro Alberto Borrajo | Jamis - Sutter Home | Stage 3 | Rory Sutherland | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | Stage 4 | Robert Förster | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | Stage 5 | Rory Sutherland | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | Stage 6 | Darren Lapthorne | Drapac Cycling | Stage 7 | Robert Förster | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | Stage 8 | Ben Jacques-Maynes | Bissell Cycling Team | Stage 9 | Wilmar Jair Perez Munoz | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 10 | Robert Förster | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling |
Final GC 1 | Rory Sutherland | 39h56'58 | 2 | Alex Norberto Cano Ardila | + 12'26 | 3 | Ben Jacques-Maynes | + 13'43 | 4 | John Darwin Atapuma Hurtado | + 14'02 | 5 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 14'47 | 6 | Gregory Juel Brenes Obondo | + 15'11 | 7 | Jay Robert Thomson | + 15'23 | 8 | Victor Hugo Pena Grisales | + 16'11 | 9 | Aureliano Dal Compare | + 16'22 | 10 | Ignacio Sarabia Diaz | + 16'50 |
Points - Robert Förster
Mountain - Rory Sutherland
Now we are end of April and it is time for
Better than expected! We got our 1st win thanks to Barguil. 5 Top 10 and 2 Top 5 in GC. 3 KoM and 1 Points classification. That is not bad at all.
Dal Compare has also achieved amazing progresses! Can’t wait to see what he will achieve at the end of the season if he continues on this trend!
Would Dal Compare offer a Mountain leader that can be combined with a good sprinter?
As for our next 3 months planning: a big break with no race in May and the fresh men will start in Canada before moving to Colombia. I do hope for a second win in Colombia, but that might be a little too optimistic.

Dal Compare looks really motivated to train. He knows it's a good time to take on the leader role and try to fully fill it. Ambitious young fellow.

@ sutty: hope for the best
@ Shonak: yes it i nice to get a young guy so full of motivation and progressing so well
1st race for our best team on the paper:
Minguez will be our leader on mountainous terrain while Branaa will take the role for more hilly races.
Quinteros and Varillas will have chances for KoM and possibly shot at stage win.
Holsen and Lobaton will mostly help their team mates.
Key stage
Stage 4 – ITT
After having well resisted in the first hills, Branaa has lost 55’’ and is down in 10th. Fairly is still in the lead after his success in the hills and it looks like Sutherland will not win in Canada this year!
Stage 1 | Juan Pablo Forero Carreno | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 2 | Juan Pablo Forero Carreno | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 3 | Caleb Fairly | Team SpiderTech Powered By C10 | Stage 4 | Victor Hugo Pena Grisales | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 5 | Rory Sutherland | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling | Stage 6 | Jake Keough | UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling |
Final GC 1 | Caleb Fairly | 21h23'52 | 2 | Victor Hugo Pena Grisales | + 13 | 3 | Francisco Mancebo Perez | + 18 | 4 | Rory Sutherland | + 37 | 5 | Wilmar Jair Perez Munoz | + 49 | 6 | Wilson Marentes | + 1'17 | 7 | François Parisien | + 1'22 | 8 | Johann Rabie | + 1'30 | 9 | Damien Branaa | + 1'34 | 10 | Jake Keough | s.t. |
Points - Rory Sutherland
Mountain - Jefferson Quinteros
And now is time for decision!
We have a 24k budget to spend on recruitments.
Who would you make an offer to?
Here are the leaders:
And here are the Sprinters:

Blythe is more expansive than Heado but definitely worth it. He got good secondary stats and will be a valuable sprinter! |

Definitely Blythe for sprinting. He's young, reasonable cost and may develop great. As for leaders, I'd go for Jeannesson. Total of 23k. If Jeannesson refues, maybe Koren + a second sprinter?

my priority list would be
Soler, then Koren for a leader and
Spoiler Soler looks to be a great climber, and would win quite alot of mountainous races, he may be a bit of a one trick pony but when you get to world tour having him as either a super domestique or to get in to breaks will be extremely valuable so it fits in with the long term goal. Also he's south american which helps. Then Koren as second choice because he's a great all rounder, in a similar vein to Roelandts in the last story but I'd prioritise elsewhere for this one.
Blythe, then Haedo for a sprinter.
Spoiler Blythe is young and with good sprint stats allready, he's bound to develop more, also being quite well rounded if he got into breaks later in teh career when you've got a better sprinter then he'd likely win quite a few of them. Haedo would be my second choice because he's south american, just as fast, and slightly cheaper.

@ emre: I let the evolution by default (I think it is 0,5) and I assign random potential so don't count of your knowledge of a rider
@ all: Thank you! There is a clear vote emerging.
Adding my vote: Jeannesson + Duran, we have got:
4 votes:
Jeannesson
Blythe
1 vote:
Koren
Soler
Duran
Haedo
If one of them refuse, I'll go with a second round
Where Koren and Haedo are starting with a lead given the back up you provide.

We will have only 12 riders next year:
Blythe accepted first
Jeanesson rejected our first offer but he accepted an increased one of 19kEUR.
So we have our 2 recruits for next year. Let's hope they will justify their status!
Also let's hope one of our current rider will progress enough to assume the status of leader
And now we start our national Vuelta!
Key Stages
Stage 2 – Hills
Duarte proves he is the strongest of the field winning the stage with more than 1’ margin. Pliuschin confirms his good condition after his prologue win by finishing 2nd. With Branaa 3rd and more importantly Minguez 5th we might have a shot at a podium though.
Stage 8 – Mountain
In the last climb Colombia demonstrates once again his domination: just by imposing a huge tempo only 5 riders remain at the front: Duarte of course who will later win his 6th stage on this vuelta and his team mates Cano Ardila and Atapuma Hurtado, the uncontested 2nd Pliuschin and our Minguez who stick here with the best for just a little longer. Not enough to create a big enough gap with the white jersey we can see behind: De Luna Davila will save his 3rd place for 2’ thanks to time won in hilly stages.
Behind, Branaa is doing his best and saving his 5th GC place, for the time being…
Stage 1 | Alexandr Pliuschin | Leopard - Trek | Stage 2 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 3 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 4 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 5 | Alexandr Pliuschin | Leopard - Trek | Stage 6 | Andy Jacques-Maynes | Bissell Cycling Team | Stage 7 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 8 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 9 | Andy Jacques-Maynes | Bissell Cycling Team | Stage 10 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes |
After 10 stages (4 to ride) we know the boss and his second too
But our team is still promised to a huge battle: Varillas is second to Duarte for KoM and both Minguez and Branaa may have a shot for the 3rd place. But they are under the threat of Cano Ardila to remain in the Top 5 too...
GC after 10 stages 1 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | 41h44'25 | 2 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 5'54 | 3 | Flavio De Luna Davila | + 20'13 | 4 | Miguel Minguez Ayala | + 20'38 | 5 | Damien Branaa | + 22'35 | 6 | Alex Norberto Cano Ardila | + 25'04 | 7 | Oscar Sevilla Ribera | + 30'26 | 8 | Thomas Rabou | + 31'02 | 9 | John Darwin Atapuma Hurtado | + 31'45 | 10 | Jeremy Vennell | + 35'28 |

@ sutty: I am happier with Jeannesson than with Blyth, hope he will prove me wrong
@ welker: let's find it out
with the end of
Key stage
Stage 13 – Mountain
Tomorrow is more or less flat but today is the hardest mountain stage and our last change: Varillas is 2nd in KoM to Duarte but more importantly Minguez is 4th in GC only 30’’ behind De Luna and Branaa 5th is not far behind!
Varillas gets in the break and secure the KoM but he has no energy left to follow Sarabadia in the last climb.
At the bottom of the last climb, Minguez go full speed. Branaa cannot follow but neither could De Luna!
Minguez is back in the front with the best: Duarte, Pliuschin and Cano Ardila.
Minguez takes the 3rd place of the stage… and of the GC
Stage 14 – Flat
With a circuit and a hard climb just before the climb Branaa takes his chance with 20 km to go. He joins the break and calm down a bit. With 7km to go the break is caught but Branaa attacks and breaks free alone. He even manages to resist the sprinter for a stage win!
Stage 1 | Alexandr Pliuschin | Leopard - Trek | Stage 2 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 3 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 4 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 5 | Alexandr Pliuschin | Leopard - Trek | Stage 6 | Andy Jacques-Maynes | Bissell Cycling Team | Stage 7 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 8 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 9 | Andy Jacques-Maynes | Bissell Cycling Team | Stage 10 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 11 | Ignacio Sarabia Diaz | Movistar Team Ct | Stage 12 | Jeremy Vennell | Bissell Cycling Team | Stage 13 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | Colombia - Coldeportes | Stage 14 | Damien Branaa | EL EQUIPO |
In the last two stages we manage to get a stage win, the win the KoM, get into Top 3 and save Branaa’s place in Top 5. That has changed a correct Vuelta into a great one!
Final GC
1 | Fabio Andres Duarte Arevalo | 54h43'27 | 2 | Alexandr Pliuschin | + 5'08 | 3 | Miguel Minguez Ayala | + 23'15 | 4 | Flavio De Luna Davila | + 24'30 | 5 | Damien Branaa | + 27'51 | 6 | Alex Norberto Cano Ardila | + 31'40 | 7 | Thomas Rabou | + 33'30 | 8 | Oscar Sevilla Ribera | + 34'22 | 9 | Dan Bowman | + 38'17 | 10 | John Darwin Atapuma Hurtado | + 39'54 |
Points - Alexandr Pliuschin
Moutain - Exar Varillas

Really a wonderful performance by Branaa on the last stage, and the GC looks quite great thanks to the last stages. Team really must have forced its luck.
