It would be outstanding if Impey and Boasson Hagen could do something similar to what they did in Lisbon. Hopefully Vanoverschelde doesn't mess up the team's tactics.
Compared to Lisbon, I see this race as slightly easier looking at the profile, as there is no hill in the last 40 kilometers or so.
Nice preview! Hopefully Impey gets motivated not being mentioned after his 7th in Lisbon |

Uhoh. I've done the classic error, two team leaders. Something PCM can no longer cope with. Hopefully Rowe will be dropped and everyone else will ride for Ponzi...

F*ck you Pozzato. The whole season already, but especially here.
Nope, the biggest winner was B&O here. We're only 12 points ahead now. That's nothing.
We took 193 points total in two sprinter's classics.
That's insanely bad considering the 1.2m wage going into our 8 riders here and the situation we're in.
Great. Jurgen, to the rescue!
You know how to overperform. Two last times please.

Tommeke is still the beast (where the hell was his German support???)

Weird tactics for Heineken, why lead the peloton with Van Zandbeek ahead?
I'll take 4th for Swift, he really picked the right position near the end - thought he would end up on the podium, but 4th is still decent. Just a pity to be behind Pokerstars and Simply Red Bull, since both appear to be my rivals now.
7th is enough for Puma-SAP, even if cio is disappointed. Can't see B&O outscoring Puma now without a lot of luck. They really needed Bennati out of it completely.

Heineken didn`t really chase Van Zandbeek.
They always chased the attackers and slowed down again disturbing the other chasing teams.
A small group around Ballan, De Kort, Rowe etc. could have made the jump.
But actually jumping with Langeveld in a working group could have delivered them more than a 5-6 as well. |

Immediately Heineken is doing the pace again with 4 riders to stop them.
With a bit more than 5km to go they are caught and everything starts again even though the pace isn`t dropping this time.
I read that to mean Heineken kept the pace up even after catching the attackers at the end - Im guessing it wasnt them then, just the fact that the pace in the peloton always picks up at 5km to go?

No big result for Aker, Festina or Santander, which means we are still in contention for the 10th place. Now, Gesink needs to step up in the final two races and achieve that goal.

Dear fate,
If SN, the master of the ManGame, says so, it cannot be jinxing. Okay?
Thanks.
Well, I guess I was wrong assuming we face Keinath in both remaining races then, because I think it would be 50/50 if we did...

Understandable.
But I meant that the pace stayed high this last time due to the sprinters coming to the front.
From km 20-5 or so Heineken disturbed and slowed down everytime after the breakaway got caught.
This ended with 5km to go and then a little bit again when Pozzato going out of the sprinter row taking Bennati and Guerao with him. |

A great race for Wikipedia as they gain ground on their chasers Pearl Adidas and Koenigsegg. A 400 point lead on the latter will be particularly helpful with the Swedes set to unleash Trofimov on the final two races.
Pokerstars' victory means they swap with Lotto-Cervelo to take 7th - Swift doing enough to keep Vesuvio in 6th, for now. Meanwhile Aker-MOT edge in front of Festina for 10th - with that battle still very close.
In the crucial relegation fight, Puma-SAP have moved back ahead of Team B&O by a slender 12 point margin. Heineken made the biggest gains though, and had Van Zandbeek just held on to win, they would have moved to exactly the same value as Puma. Looking ahead to Tasmania, and Heineken could again be the team making gains with Kristjan Koren the best time triallist of the 3 teams, and JJ Haedo the best sprinter. Puma do have Jurgen van den Broeck, the best over the hills, but prospects are less bright for B&O since leaders Pluchkin and Keinath have already ended their seasons.

And over in the Individual standings, Tom Boonen has taken the lead away from Taylor Phinney. But with Tasmania to come, the American still has the upper hand.

Okay, I wasn't expecting Keinath to be already done, that changes things in the B&O aspect of what now looks like a triple battle again.
Still, if they field Klemme, Guldhammer and Grivko in Lombardia, they could make some anonymous 15-30 positions and get more points than we do.
I don't see Heineken being competitive in Lombardia, so the stage to decide over relegation might be Tasmania stage 2. If VDB ends up in a good position and at least one group ahead of Koren...

Good old reliable JVH, always reliable in the sprint.... Oh wait!
Delighted with the result here, very pleased with the overall effect of our three big transfers Cancellara, Van Stayen and Yes even Van Heerden. Still one more roll of the dice at Tasmania can we claw ourselves over the hill haters Pokerstars? or even those angry red Vesuvites - seems unlikely with old man Schlecks swan song at Lombardia to come but we can dream. Holding a top ten in teams would be great.
Love that the top teams have the big guns left, Phinney vs Trofimov is a nice story for Tasmania.
At the bottom, Heineken are fighting hard who knows one plucky KoM run against a misjudged VdB sprint? A nasty crash here or there? Lots to play for still

Not entirely sure how to feel about the result. We made up ground, but not as much as we might.

Slightly annoying that I ruined Impey's chances here having Vanoverschelde in the race. Admittedly, we didn't get as much as I hoped for here considering the fight for that 10th place. That will be a truly interesting fight, seeing there's only 45 points down to 1t4i in 12th.
Thanks for a nice report, roturn, and big congrats to beagle. Seeing Boonen on top of the individual ranking just tells how great he has been this season.

That could have been worse. Shitty thing is that VdB guy against my super-domestiques.... nothing's impossible I guess

Despite going down another spot, that was better than anticipated. I might be 12th instead of 14th now. It's better, but still not good at all. I really look forward to the off season to see what can be achieved
