Lachi, I believe I've seen it tested and that it actially gives moremprotection from the wind -> lower heartbeat.
I cannot recall where I saw it though, so I cannot prove it Wink

No idea as I've never really checked it, but I'd imagine they would as that's what normally happens to a rider designated to protect.
