February - End of Month
Anolther low action month as my team was only participating in 2 races, vuelta a la Región de Murcia og Clasica de Almeria.
Highlights:
In Vulta a la Región de Murcia, Abel Merino manages to get away with the breakaway after over 50 kilometres with intensive attacking and 5 of my riders are out of energy after their attempt to get in it.
I chose another tactic in Clasica de Almeria, since it was a little lighter, so noone in the breakaway there. But when the hills was over, Abel Merino was the only one of mine who was left in the peloton. THe highlights is that he with 3.9kilometres to go is up there, where he should be at the back wheel of Thor Hushovd. Only seconds later he collapsed though, out of power and ends on 60th place, but showed some good signs there, just need to hold another 4-5 kilometres.
EBH - March schedule:
Because my team didn't get wildcard to Tirreno Adriatico, Milano - Sanremo and Ronde van Vlaanderen, He will ride the two continental stageraces; Settimana Coppi e Bartali and VDK-Driedaagse De Panne-Koksijde.

Settimana Coppi e Bartali, Stage 1 - Review
Things began very nice and just according to plan. 20km out in the race all my riders were in the front of the peloton ready to control it if necessary.
After a long time with attacking, a group of 3 were finally allowed to go ahead in today's breakaway.
The three lucky guys, was Evgeny Zverkov, representing the continental team Itera-Katusha. Followed by Patrik Jäger (Team Vorarlberg) and Kenichi Sakakibara (Vini Fantini).
Over the first climb of today, all my riders kept their good position and looked good, but over the final climb the peloton ride harder than I expected catching up with the breakaway and I lost all of my lads except Boasson Hagen, Merino and Oliver Olsen.
Olsen was exhausted though so he was just sitting right behind Boasson Hagen while Merino was in front, trying to protect Hagen and find a good position for him.
With 3 km to go, Merino have found a nice position with Boasson in behind.
With 1,5 km to go, Merina opens up his sprint in a fantastic position, but tired after the last 5 kilometres fighting for a good position he’s not looking very fresh, and there is just a question of time before EBH has to go himself.
Only 0,9 km away from the line, EBH goes out for himself, giving 100%. It’s his first race of the season, and that shows. The technique isn’t quite there yet, and neither are the power.
A 3rd place it is for Edvald,3rd place for Edvald is a good result and he thereby also managed to achieve my goal of the day. But another happy surprise was to see that Abel Merino was doing quite well behind Edvald, sprinting into a 5th place on the stage. By that, Merino manages to achieve one of my goals for the hole stage race already on the first stage.

Just to slow on the first, but it's ok as it's his first race of the season. "nd stage is a TTT and as I'm terrible in that I'm hoping to not lose too much time in the GC there. But He has improved a lot in TT already this season so I hope for a stage win there and in one of the mass starts. |

sutty68 Agree to that one. Although I'm hoping for better results on one of the next stages. After the TTT ofcourse. That can't be anything else than a disaster. |

Maybe if he sprinted a bit earlier he could've won, but a good start to the season.

Cycleman123 You're maybe correct there. Usually when I sprints I send out my last man 1.2, 1.3 away from goal, but he was tired so began later. He was out of energy though when he crossed the line his red bar was out. But we will never know. 4 motnhs since I last made a sprint in this game with a good sprinter so I probably need a little refreshing myself |

A decent enough start by EBH. It's too early in the season to panic, I'm sure once he gets in the rhythm of the season he will be practically unstoppable |

Settimana Coppi e Bartali, Stage 2 - Review
I have to apologies to all of you, but somehow I have managed to loose all my pictures Therefore the review will be short.
The Team Time Trial began like they all did, giving it all and hoping to don’t lose too much time. Edvald had to take long shifts during this race to keep the team within reasonable distance.
When we crossed the finish line, it didn’t look good. With 9 teams left to go, we were already 35 seconds behind the leading team. And Boasson hagen was more frustrated then I had seen him since he joined our team. I think he was regretting his move in that moment. In sky he used to fight for the win in TTT’s, now he might lose his chance in the GC because of it.
His mood went up a little though, for every team passing the goal line as no one managed to take the lead from Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest. Although, Astana, the toughest team was the last one out, and he couldn’t relax before they were done. Luckily they did only beat Ceramica with 5 seconds, so we only lost 40 seconds.
Stage Result:
1 | Astana Pro Team | 13’55” | 2 | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | + 5” | 3 | Lampre - Merida | + 6” | 4 | Team Katusha | + 8” | 5 | Androni Giocattoli | + 12” | 6 | IAM cycling | +14” | 7 | Cannondale | + 19” | 8 | Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies | + 20” | 9 | Colombia | s.t. | 10 | Amore & Vita | + 23” | 21 | Norwegian Road Racing | + 40” |
General Classification::
1 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | 2h44'38” | 2 | Fredrik Kessiakoff | Astana Pro Team | + 18” | 3 | Alexey Lutsenko | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 4 | Dmitriy Gruzdev | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 5 | Alexsandr Dyachenko | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 6 | Daniil Fominykh | Astana Pro Team | s.t. | 7 | Arman Kamyshev | Astana Pro Team | +23” | 8 | Ivan Rovny | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | +24” | 9 | Davide Mucelli | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 10 | Ilya Gorodnichev | Ceramica Flaminia - Fondriest | s.t. | 72 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | Norwegian Road Racing | + 50” |
Points Ranking:
1 | Francesco Gavazzi | Astana Pro Team | 25 | 2 | Enrico Battaglin | Bardiani - CSF | 20 | 3 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | Norwegian Road Racing | 16 |
Mountains Classification:

Settimana Coppi e Bartali, Stage 3 - Preview
Stage Profile:
The 3 stage of this tour is a hilly stage which can change the General Classification.
Riders and Roles:
Stage Goals:
1’ Cut down the distance up to the leader in the GC with Edvald.
2’ Finish in top 3 on the stage.
Stage tactics:
Today there is finally a stage that allows more tactics. If everything goes according to plan, this will be a high-action day from my team. I will begin the day to try to get at least one of my riders (not EBH or Abel Merino) in todays breakaway. When the peloton reaches the climbs, I will try to get away and gain time with EBH and hopefully, I will have a teammate in front which can help him down one of the down hills so he can relax before a new climb. According to plan, if it still sticks, Merino will be my captain in the sprint today. If EBH fails with his attack Merino Will go for the top 3 finish. If not (as I hope) he will try to win the sprint in the peloton, trying to gain on the fact that they are not fighting for the victory as the others will most likely not give 100%.
It was attempting to go for the sprint and bonus seconds with EBH as well, but I decided to go for this one because then I can test him a little, see how he is upwards and see how much training I need.

I recommend Greenshot to take screenshots.
50 seconds is quite a gap in overall after the team time trial, but maybe this will allow for a breakaway win from one of the riders or at least make up some time.

Shonak Sorry for beeing a noob, but Greenshot? What's that?
50 seconds is a lot of time, but I'm terrible on TTT and when my best rider except EBH has 60 in TT it doesn't help much.
It's a TT on stage 5, it's flat and only 14,5 km, but hopin to take 30 seconds with EBH, and take some time in bonus seconds and maybe a break away on the two other stages.

It's a screenshot programme, I use it after I lost some screenshots too and it works great.
