Unlucky in the first stage, but there's plently of time to bounce back.

Stage 3

This 129.6km stage is pretty much the only stage other than the stage to Willunga Hill, on which the GC could be decided. Favourites are Cunego (LAM), Sanchez (RAB) and Visconti (FAR).

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%203/PCM0006_zps00a6ea26.png
Breschel is pleased with himself as he sees his name on the road in front of him.

The early break, later becoming the break for the day included Matthews. Here we have a view from the 12 man break showing two chasers, who later join, and a Peloton which is meandering along at the time.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%203/PCM0009_zps724ad879.png
30kms from the finish the lead for the break is at 2'58.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%203/PCM0010_zpsc4f04088.png
Ten Dam raises the pace for a Sanchez attack.

25kms to go, Sanchez attacks. Quickly gets caught and we then see an attack from Ballan (BMC).

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%203/PCM0012_zpscfb56422.png
Ballan (BMC) holds on and wins the stage ahead of Van Summeren (GAR) and Offrodo (FDJ).
Overall it is now Ballan, because of a small Peloton split.

Manager: Disappointing here with a 13th and 16th but at least both Breschel and Sanchez have moved into the top 10 in the GC.

Stage 3

This 125.4km stage is for the sprinters but there is a slight chance for Punchers as well. Favourites are Cavendish (HTC), Freire (RAB) and McEwen (RSH).

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0001_zps136e9f7d.png
After 25kms a break of 6 riders has formed, including Leezer (RAB), Oss (LIQ) and Feilu (VAC).

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0003_zps2409cb70.png
The break was caught with 8kms to go and now there are only 2 other escapees about 30 seconds in front of the Peloton, therefore Sanchez tries his luck once again.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0004_zps5844b787.png
He was caught with just 1.8kms to go and just as the sprint had begun.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0005_zpsc04b7bf4.png
Cavendish (HTC) won the stage ahead of Davis (AST) and Galimzyanov (KAT). The team managing a better result with Matti Breschel coming 8th. He now moves to 4th in the GC and Sanchez is now in 8th.

Manager: With two riders now inside the top 10 and an 8th on the stage for Breschel we are now slightly happier, however we would still like a stage win.

Stage 5

The 131km stage in which we go over Willunga Hill is the last chance for someone to alter the GC. However, the second passing summits 19kms from the finish therefore making it difficult for a climber to hold on all the way to the finish. Favourites are Cavendish (HTC), Freire (RAB) and Boasson Hagen (SKY).

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0006_zps3a343ffa.png
With 82kms remaining and still 41kms from the first summit of Willunga Hill an 11 man break has formed, again including Leezer, their lead is 1'32 over a 4 man chasing group who have a further 1'47 gap to the Peloton.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0007_zpsfecac01f.png
With 49kms remaining the break now has 15 riders and a gap of 4'19 back to the Peloton that is beginning their chase.'

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0008_zps88b4a085.png
With 25kms to go the break has a lead of 1'24 and we are on the first climb. Clement and Ten Dam are working for a Sanchez attack.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/PCM0009_zps5c8c76be.png
With 23kms to go Sanchez makes his move, he is later caught with 11kms remaining, but the front group is down to just 48 riders with the only sprinters being Cavendish (HTC and Breschel (RAB).

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%203/PCM0010_zps3dddda4e.png
With 3kms to go Cav is being lead out by his team mate Degenkolb and behind Cav is Breschel, is this the chance?

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%203/PCM0011_zps8058f119.png

The first win for the team in the World Tour and certainly not the last for the Great Dane. The win moves him into 2nd in the GC only 4 seconds behind Ballan, 1st or 2nd on the next stage could mean the win.

Stage Result

1st Matti Breschel Rabobank
2nd Mark Cavendish HTC-Highroad
3rd Alessandro Ballan BMC
4th Assan Bazayev Astana
5th Dries Devenyns Quickstep
6th Alessandro Bertolini Androni
7th Inaki Isasi Euskaltel - Euskadi
8th Luke Roberts Saxo Bank- Sungard
9th Romain Feilu Vacansoleil
10th Manuel Cardoso Radioshack

General Classification

1st Alessandro Ballan
2nd Matti Breschel +4
3rd Johan Van Summeren +8
4th Yohan Offredo +10
5th Mark Cavendish +12
6th Enrico Gasparotto +14
7th Giovanni Visconti +14
8th Peter Sagan +14
9th Luis Leon Sanchez +14
10th Damiano Cunego +14

Manager: I am extremely happy with the teams performance today. Our first win of the Season in the World Tour and a 2nd place in the General Classification, we could not ask for much more. Although the first few stages were some to forget this win has raised the spirits and hopes of the whole team.

Wow, very well done Smile
Though the final result is centered and should be in a column Wink
Anything still possible in the GC!

Stage 6

It's a 93.2km stage which loops around a pond in Adelaide. Should be won by a sprinter unless the Peloton stuffs up.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%206/PCM0016_zps71c6fdbf.png
With 60kms to go the breakaway, containing none of my riders, is 3'14 ahead of the Peloton. Here they can be seen on the other side of the pond.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%206/PCM0017_zps290e1ab8.png
Radioshack and HTC are doing the work and with 45kms to go the lead is down to 3'18.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%206/PCM0020_zps028c88a6.png
With 25kms to go the break is in sight with a lead of 1'28.

My team was preparing the sprint train but with 5kms to go i realised the break had a lead of 1 minute and that there was no work being done at the front. I desperately moved two riders forward but they could not prevent the break from winning the stage.

i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b584/RaboGuy/RABOBANK%20STORY%20PROPER/Santos%20Tour%20Down%20Under%20Stage%201-6/Stage%206/PCM0021_zps94f271c0.png
Cooke (SBS) wins the stage ahead of Hayman (SKY) and Dall'Antonia (LIQ).

In the General Classification nothing changed, so Ballan (BMC) wins the Santos Tour Down Under, with Breschel in 2nd and Van Summeren (GAR) in 3rd. Luis Leon Sanchez also managed 9th in the GC.

Manager: Overall, I am reasonably happy with the teams performance in Australia. A great stage win for Breschel and a 2nd in the GC is quite good, even though we were hoping to win the results in Australia are not to be ignored.
