Good thing none of the PT leaders crashed there. When a leader has to crash it's pretty good that it is a wildcard rider.
Nothing much to say about stage 1 for my team.

I will not blame Van Heerden there it was a decent effort at a stage win from him and the boys.
If we can slip in a breakaway or two after the TTT and perhaps get a little closer in a sprint towards the end of the race I'll take it.
Phinney could struggle on the hilly stuff against Bakelants, Schumi and Gesink so taking bonus seconds will be a boost. Wiki looking so strong you'd think against Koeniggsegg unless they can perform miracles in the TTT.

Awesome start for Phinney. Wasn't expecting that.
I aggre with Smowz, the hills scare me with those great riders here. Have to hope for a strong TTT to keep Phinney well positioned.
Shame for Popo, but only 1 GC casualty among 50 is far from the worst we've seen.

Thanks
But you are right, rather a wildcard crash than seeing someone having a relegation or title battle decided that way ,even when it is our man Popovych. Lets hope he will attack now,if he is not injured though. Not the best PT premiere for us really.
Shame about Hoffman,he was in great position, but it costed him a lot obviously. And he is not so strong to outsprint the PT stars.

Too bad we couldn't take the stage win. But the good news is that Gesink is now in front of Phinney

That was a somewhat sensational performance from my team. Nowhere near expected, I was sure we were going to lose minutes. Just a shame we don't have any riders to ride for in the GC with such a team time trial
Hopefully we can get in more breakaways on the coming stages, one of them might be successful.
Thanks for the report! |

Hell yeah! Finally a TTT going as planned. Pedraza is now well set for a high GC placing, if as goes well.

brutal tt, phinney seems to have ridden off at the end and taken 20 seconds on the rest of the team haha
Shocked Caldwell and van Rensburg lost 5 minutes as decent tt'ers.

Top15 in the PT race is great for us, but shame that our riders miscalculated the power outputs a bit and faded in the second half. Congrats to Koenigsegg!

That went better than excpected... Albeit no real gaps was made from that TTT. Phinney is sure to win this I think. I can only hope Fothen, for once, doesn't fuck up.

Much tighter TTT than I expected also.
Now for the hilly stages - traditionally been poorly handled in PCM12 but perhaps before the ountain stage we could see some kind of attack on the Phin monster.

Those gaps are all from Stage 1 - time bonus / crash

Looks like Popo's crash was a blessing in disguise for Metinvest!
Pedraza's doing very well too. Going to be a very good race for him if he can keep the lead through stage 4.

Popo always does well in Deutschland!! Great result for Metinvest, and a definite reward for being given a wildcard.
I see Scarponi is once more without any support... that'll teach me to focus on the TTT.

Cheeky move by Pedraza, very pleased with that. Any gains on a hilly stage is a massive bonus. Next stage won't be as easy though. AI, please help me again.

Realising that this will likely be a lean race for us, no-one capable of getting in break or sticking with pack!
Popo rescues race for Metinvest, quite a trophy to take the win. Koeniggsegg really surprising here.

This should go down to the time trial thinking of the overall classification. It's really all to play for, and it will be interesting to see what kind of gaps (or probably the lack of it) the next two stages give.
Congratulations to Metinvest-Emirates, definitely proving why they and Popovych were a good pick for this tour.
