With the addition of those twelve riders the team will certainly be the ones to watch in the coming season |

jt1109: He better ride for him
sutty68: That is the plan
baia: Thanks, I wanted a middle of the road to bottom end team, and I don't think that the team is too overpowered

This year's race has only one stage that should have time gaps. It is stage 5 that ends at Willunga.
The rest of the stages should end in bunch sprints.
The Team
We bring our best sprinter Leigh Howard to the first WT race of the season. Vande Velde will try to get a solid GC result.
Full Startlist
Leigh is the best sprinter here. Impey and Swift should provide the biggest challenge.

Santos Tour Down Under Stage 1
The first WT stage of the season is a mostly flat ride finshing with a slightly uphill finish. The final hill shouldn't be a spring board for any attacks. We want the win today.
Today's train- Veilleux-Rollin-Rensburg-Howard
The Race
Four riders are at the fore with 120 km to go. They are Le Bon of FDJ, Tulik of Europcar, Wurf of Cannondale, and Chainel of AG2R.
With 20 km to go, the four are in control, and the gap is down to 1 20.
As the bunch hits the hill, the break is hauled back, and the stage will end in a sprint. If you look on the left, you can see that SpiderTech jersey, as Rensburg paces Howard up the climb.
With 3 km to go, Rollin is flying on the front with Rensburg and Howard in tow. On the right Orica is just getting organized and we are in control at the front.
With 1 km to go, Rensburg is finishing his lead out as the bunch hits the uphill. Howard is in perfect position, can he take the win in the first race of the year?
Yes he can! Leigh Howard takes the win over Belkin's Hivert. Rensburg takes third and Robbie Hunter finishes fourth after getting lost on the final hill! Ventoso rounds out the top 5 for Movistar.

Post Race Comments- Today's stage couldn't have gone better. We executed out pre-race plan perfectly, and we were rewarded with a 1-3-4! What a ride from Robbie Hunter, he came from half-way down the bunch with 6 km to go, and he took 4th on the day. Tomorrow's stage is another flat day, but it has a tough circuit with an uphill finish. We hope to make it 2 for 2

sutty68 and baia: Thanks
aidanvn13: Thanks, I am thinking about moving to extreme
If I move to extreme it wouldn't be until the end of this race, since I've already played 5 of the stages.
Stage 2 up sometime tonight

Stage 2 of the Santos Tour Down Under features three laps of a tough circuit in the final 50 km, and an uphill finish at 4%. We want nothing less than the win.
The Race
Rohan Dennis of Garmin and David Tanner of Belkin are only that decide to put themselves in the wind on the day.
With only 2 riders up the road, Howard takes the points and bonus time for 3rd place in the intermediate sprint.
Just as bunch is entering the cicuit for the first of three laps, Van Rensburg had a flat! However, he quickly returned to the bunch.
As the break crosses the line at the end of the second lap, the duo have 1 25 to the chasing peloton.
With 10 km to go, the duo of leaders still have a minute to the peloton, as they hit the final climb.
Five km later, and Dennis has left Tanner behind, but his gap is down to 20 seconds, and he will soon be swept up by the charging bunch.
With 1 km to go, the team has delivered Howard perfectly, and it looks like the Australian will make it 2 for 2 in his home land.
How about that! A 1-2 for Team SpiderTech! The other sprinters suffered on the climb, and it results in a huge gap between Rensburg and third place Izagirre. The gap was so large, the officials gave our riders 16 seconds over the rest of the bunch!

Post Race Comments- I thought yesterday's stage was great. This is best case scenario for sure! We not only take the 1-2 stage win, we get a gap on the others. If we keep dominating like this, maybe Rensburg or Howard could challenge for the final GC! Tomorrow's stage is very similar to stage 1. How does 3 for 3 sound?

Just putting out there that this won't continue, I wanted to try a team story, and I just don't enjoy writing it. I have an idea for a two rider story that I will post later today, sorry to disappoint anyone

Too bad, but if you don't enjoy it, it's the best thing to do. Kick back better |
