I'm fine for you to do Jesleyh's idea's first if you want as I won't be adding the San Marino Classic to my career until next season and I'm only just approaching the Ardennes classics now so that's still some way off.

Jesleyh
Well, yours is a request and mine are just suggestions if he doesn't have a request, so of course yours has priority Wink

Around the World in 80 Days

This truly inspiring Jules Verne-esque tour is a real test of strength and mental resolve, only the strongest and greatest will triumph in the harshest of races. For this is the ultimate glory.
An 80 day long GT over 4 continents, with no rest days, after all, there's a schedule to keep! It features all terrain and at the end, only the rider with the best recovery will have the necessary strength to win out, over strong competition. As riders drop out, teams will become useless, and it is a true test of human endurance and triumph against all odds.

Provisional Route Information

2 stages in the Benelux to mark the Grand Depart, the race starts in the Netherlands officially. This way the champion will have to survive the cobbles of Belgium, and an LBL like first stage, as if the days to come weren't enough!

Then the fellowship jets of to Los Angeles, for a 23 day long tour of America, as they ride from the West to the East, through the Desert and Rocky Mountains, before arriving in Mount Pleasant.

They take the ferry (plane) to Oporto in Portugal, where the European leg begins. They rider tirelessly through Portugal, Spain, France, Monacco, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece before finishing in Istanbul, Turkey.

Then it's off to the UAE. The first stage takes them from Abu Dhabi to Dubai, and then from there to Oman, and a 3000m climb!

Thankfully the skip out a few miles of death in the Himilayas, and land in Beijing. From here they move on the flat (mostly) to Shanghai, the end of their visit, and the end of millions spent on paying the UCI Wink

From Shanghai they head to Sydney, and from there to Melbourne, before finishing off the Australian road trip in Launceton Tasmania. This is day 79, and they jet off resignedly to.....

Paris, and the Champs Élysées. But this isn't like most Tours, as the finish is a TT! Who will win the GC, with 3 TTs, endless mountains, half the stages over 200km, and a ridiculous amount of pain?

Jesleyh, do you mind if I move your thing to side project, as I'd like to get on with 80 days, and only be interrupted by the 'real' requests, sorry.

sammyt93
Thank you for completing my request, I've already played it and can say it's great fun, short fast and furious, especially if someone even remotely half decent gets in the break, and the finish is brutal, you can easily make up half a minute on the final straight alone.

and that side project of yours sounds brutal, I cant imagine there would be many riders finishing that at all.

The Hobbit
Thanks of the compliment, I was thinking of a stage like that. It's chaos till the final climb then you see the gaps, I was surprised at first it counts as hilly, but the racing style is very like the classics.
And yes. The around the world tour is a monster, it'll sort out the best of the best, but imagine if someone doesn't make it over the cobbles at the Grand Depart, the Rocky Mountains and Alps will be the least of their worries. It isn't too bad in a mountain front, as it doesn't go looking for mountains, just crosses those in the way!

sammyt93
I think that you should include a stage up Mauna Kea on Hawaii to kick off the American leg or would that be a little too evil?

and it seems you've missder africa and South America off, you could maybe drop to south america after the USA then hti teh tope of africa before crossing back to europe near gibralter and heading off towards Lisbon, up to porto then back across spain and the rest of europe.

The Hobbit
I wish I could do all these things, but of course, it has to be 80 days! And it has to be in DEM range. Maybe I'll skip a few Australia stages and add a few in Argentina and South Africa.

sammyt93
I might be underestimating how many stages the trek across europe will take, would you be able to draw up a map with rough stage lengths and locations on it before you start so I've got a better idea

Route so far. As you can see, most of Australia is gap fill, so that's where I'd shave off time, also forgot the 2 stages in Arabia. -2 from Australia for that.

sammyt93
I'm surprised by how many stages you've got in Australia, I didn't think there were many .dem files for it.

The Hobbit
There aren't as I say it was gap fill, so I'll probably replace 4-5 of them with the remaining continents,

Jesleyh
Allright, make mine side-projects if you insist.
Also, I'd make it more of a trek through Europe, and not having 26 stages.
If you really want to make it more trek-like, you should go through Turkey and then the mid-east, and don't hang around in Europe for a third of the time Wink
Also, include enough flat stages as well Wink

It's almost all flat stages, and it is a trek, that's straight from Porto to Istanbul, 26 stages, you guys must think Europe is really small.
