The tour of Malaysia will be the race of month. It's a 2.HC race with a TT, 8 flat stages and a big mountain stage. I hope to take a lot of points in this race for the CT overall classification. |

Coppa costa degli Etruschi
For this first race of the month, I have nearly no expectation. For all my riders engaged in this race it's the first day of race of their season.
My squad:
John-Lee Augustyn
Francesco Belotti
Mads Christensen
Daryl Impey
Robert Hunter
Paolo Longo Borghini
Michele Merlo
Carlo Scognamiglio
Their shape is around 50-55 pts except Hunter who is around 60 pts. He should reach his peak at the Ronde of Vlaanderen like Cooke and Thomas who will be my leaders for this race, I put to them the training program "Roubaix 02" this explains a little Thomas'victory at San Luis.
This race was very closed with a bunch which do not want let a breakaway take a lot of time. There was 2 during the race but the gap doesn't excess 2 min. Here we go for a massive sprint. Because of the lack of shape of his mates, Hunter wasn't transported in good conditions and got a quite disappointed 16th place.
Classification
1st Danilo Wyss (BMC) 4h 47'02"
2nd Lloyd Mondory (ALM) + 0"
3rd Simone Ponzi (AST) + 0"
4th Tyler Farrar (GRM) + 0"
5th Filippo Pozzato (FAR) + 0"
6th Julian Dean (OGE) + 0"
7th Alexandre Vinokourov (AST) + 0"
8th Elia Favilli (FAR) + 0"
9th Maxime Vantomme (KAT) + 0"
10th Jure Kocjan (TT1) + 0"
...
16th Robert Hunter (BAR) + 0"

Vuelta ciclista a Mallorca
This race is composed of 4 stages, 2 flats and hilly stages.
My Squad:
Diego Caccia
Matteo Carrara
Baden Cooke
Marco Corti
Alexander Efimkin
Enrico Gasparotto
Konstantin Siutsou
It will be hard to take a good place for the GC, it's the return of the holidays for riders like Rodriguez, Valverde or Sagan. A perfect race for them. For me, I hope a top 5 or maybe a stage victory.
Stage 1: Great start !
Here we go for the first flat stage. A stage of 110km with none difficulties.
A breakaway of a dozen escape men grew up, Team Katusha of Rodriguez controled and let 4" before accelerated.
Rodriguez's men catched up the breakaway at 5km to the finish but I don't understand why they didn't accelerated the rythm of the head of the bunch. That ensured me to put Cooke and Gasparotto with the help of Siutsou and Carrara at the head of the bunch nearly without any difficulties. I launched my sprint at 1,5 km and ... I got a surprising victory, the fourth of the season for my team. =)
Stage classification
1st Baden Cooke (BAR) 2h 32'52"
2nd Enrico Gasparotto (BAR) + 0"
3rd Elia Viviani (LIQ) + 0"
4th Elia Favilli (FAR) + 0"
5th Jure Kocjan (TT1) + 0"
6th Jose Joaquin Rojas Gil (MOV) + 0"
7th Lieuwe Westra (VCD) + 0"
8th Danilo Napolitano (ASA) + 0"
9th Manuel Cardoso (CJR) + 0"
10th Oscar Gatto (FAR) + 0"
Overall Classification
1st Baden Cooke (BAR) 2h 32'52"
2nd Enrico Gasparotto (BAR) + 8"
3rd Tony Gallopin (RNT) + 10"
4th Elia Viviani (LIQ) + 12"
5th Thomas De Gendt (VCD) + 14"
6th Marcus Burghardt (BMC) + 14"
7th Olivier Kaisen (LTB) + 18"
8th Elia Favilli (FAR) + 20"

Vuelta ciclista a Mallorca
Stage 2 : Aussie Power
Here we go for the second stage. A stage of 170km nearly like the previous one.
Again a breakaway escaped and again Team Katusha take the chase.
The escaped men were catched up at 12km to the finish, this time Katusha didn't made the same error but that didn't ensured one of their riders to catch the victory. Finally It's Graeme Brown (RAB) who takes the victory in front of Miyazawa (SAX) and Ferrari (AND), another australian victory after Cooke in the first stage. This rythm in the final was too hard for Cooke and Gasparotto but they got a 6th and a 9th place. This classification gives the opportunity to the australian to wear one more day the GC jersey before the 2 hardest stage of this Vuelta ciclista a Mallorca.
Stage classification
1st Graeme Brown (RAB) 3h 56'22"
2nd Takashi Miyazawa (SAX) + 0"
3rd Roberto Ferrari (AND) + 0"
4th Maxime Vantomme (KAT) + 0"
5th Jure Kocjan (TT1) + 0"
6th Baden Cooke (BAR) + 0"
7th Peter Sagan (LIQ) + 0"
8th Joaquin Rodriguez (KAT) + 0"
9th Enrico Gasparotto (BAR) + 0"
10th Elia Favilli (FAR) + 0"
Overall Classification
1st Baden Cooke (BAR) 6h 28'54"
2nd Graeme Brown (RAB) + 0"
3rd Tony Gallopin (RNT) + 6"
4th Enrico Gasparotto (BAR) + 8"
5th Takashi Miyazawa (SAX) + 8"
6th Elia Viviani (LIQ) + 12"
7th Roberto Ferrari (AND) + 12"
8th Thomas De Gendt (VCD) + 14"

Vuelta ciclista a Mallorca
Stage 3 : The strong men are here
This is it! The third stage and the first hilly stage. A short stage of 140km but with 9 climbs whose 5 for the KOM jersey.
This stage started very fastly and none breakaways could gone. Team Katusha and Team Rabobank imposed an impressive train along the stage and created a race by elimination. Corti and Caccia were the first in my team to be dropped by the bunch. Next to them, It's the GC leader Cooke to be unable to follow the bunch's rythm. He was dropped in penultimate climb of the day. Before the last climb, Efimkin, Carrara, Siutsou and Gasparotto are still in the bunch but because of their lack of days of race, they were unable to follow the strong men of the bunch despite the great work of Efimkin trying to lead back his leaders to the bunch. Only 14 men arrived in the same time and It's LL Sanchez (RAB) who takes the win in front of Jose Rujano (AND) and Christopher Horner (RNT). Together Siutsou, Gasparotto and Carrara arrived 4 minutes later.
Stage classification
1st Luis Leon Sanchez (RAB) 4h 08' 22"
2nd Jose Rujano (AND) + 0"
3rd Christopher Horner (RNT) + 0"

34th Konstantin Siutsou (BAR) + 4'00"
35th Enrico Gasparotto (BAR) + 4'00"
42th Matteo Carrara (BAR) + 4'00"
Overall Classification
1st Luis Leon Sanchez (RAB) 10h 37' 16"

Vuelta ciclista a Mallorca
Stage 4 : Purito smokes everybody
For this last stage, this is again a hilly stage of 173km with the main difficulty 30 km to the arrival.
Team Rabobank let go some riders in a breakaway but controled the gap. This stage was quite calm until the foot of the main difficulty of day. Sanchez's men impressed a huge rythm and made explosed the bunch. In my team, all my riders were dropped in that climb except Siutsou who succeed to hang on until the top. Around 30 men fought for the stage victory and It's Purito Rodriguez (KAT) who take it and also the final GC in front of Samuel Sanchez (EUS) and Cadel Evans (BMC). Suitsou finished 23th.
Stage classification
1st Joaquin Rodriguez (KAT) 4h 27'02"
2nd Samuel Sanchez (EUS) + 0"
3rd Cadel Evans (BMC) + 0"
4th Luis Leon Sanchez (RAB) + 0"
5th Wouter Poels (VCD) + 0"
6th Lieuwe Westra (VCD) + 0"
7th Christopher Horner (RNT) + 0
8th Thomas De Gendt (VCD) + 0"
9th Jose Serpa (AND) + 0"
10th Miguel Angel Rubiano (AND) + 0"
...
23th Konstantin Siutsou (BAR) + 0"
Overall Classification
1st Joaquin Rodriguez (KAT) 15h 04'18"
2nd Luis Leon Sanchez (RAB) + 0"
3rd Jose Rujano (AND) + 8"
4th Christopher Horner (RNT) + 12"
5th Wouter Poels (VCD) + 20"
6th Maxim Iglinsky (AST) + 20"
7th Alejandro Valverde (MOV) + 20"
8th Darwin Atapuma (COL) + 20"
9th Jose Serpa (AND) + 20"
10th Robison Chalapud (COL) + 20"
...
28th Konstantin Siutsou (BAR) + 4'20"
Even if the GC is not very well, looking at the shape of my riders It's a quite race with a stage victory.

Tour of Oman
This race is composed of 6 stages, 5 flats and a high mountain stage.
My Squad
John-Lee Augustyn
Francesco Bellotti
Mads Christensen
Robert Hunter
Daryl Impey
Fredrik Kessiakoff
Paolo Longo Borghini
Amets Txurruka
For that race, I have none expectations for the GC but I have ones for the sprints with Hunter, he can hang top 5 on flat stages. It's the first day of race for Txurruka and Kessiakoff, my best climbers that explain my pessimism about my chance for the GC, they aren't in a good shape and ready to make a good result. For the 6 others men, It's their second day of race (First : Coppa costa degli Etruschi). I remind they are not really in a good shape except Hunter.
Stage 1 : Tourminator's time
I don't want break the suspense but every stage will end in the same way, a massive sprint. I can deny that the Tour of Oman like the Tour of Qatar is not the most interesting race of the calendary. For this first stage, It's nearly completely flat of 158 km with a traditional breakaway. I sent Txurruka in that breakaway to test him and ... he was the first man dropped in that group 12km from the arrival but he succeed to hang on the bunch. Naturally, the bunch catched up the escape men and go for a massive sprint. And the victory goes to Sagan (LIQ), 2nd Goss (OGE) and 3rd Breschel (RAB). My fears was confirmed, my riders cannot bring Hunter in a good position for the sprint, finally he got a 17th place.
Stage classification
1st Peter Sagan (LIQ) 3h 33' 35"
2nd Matthew Goss (OGE) + 0"
3rd Matti Breschel (RAB) + 0"
4th Daniele Benatti (SAX) + 0"
5th Romain Feillu (VCD) + 0"
6th Alexander Kristoff (KAT) + 0"
7th Jimmy Engoulvent (SAU) + 0"
8th Danilo Wyss (BMC) + 0"
9th Assan Bazayev (AST) + 0"
10th Mark Renshaw (RAB) + 0"
...
17th Robert Hunter (BAR) + 0"
Overall Classification
1st Peter Sagan (LIQ) 3h 33' 15"
2nd Matthew Goss (OGE) + 8"
3rd Matti Breschel (RAB) + 12"
4th Daniele Benatti (SAX) + 20"
5th Romain Feillu (VCD) + 20"
6th Alexander Kristoff (KAT) + 20"

Tour of Oman
Stage 2 : A disaster
Here we go for the second stage, another flat and short one. There are little climbs in the final which can reduce chances of victory for some sprinters. At 15km from the arrival, we know we are going to a massive sprint, Sagan's men impressed a big rythm and they made explosed nearly all my team, their low shape were fatal. Hunter and Kessiakoff still in the bunch. Again Sagan take the win again in front of Goss and Rodriguez. Hunter got a very good and also a disappointed 5th place because he was placed very badly inside the bunch and he made a huge sprint. After this stage, I know Kessiakoff is anymore my only chance for the GC and after this sprint I can hope a podium with Hunter for a stage.
