Even more then new GT winners..I was expecting even last year some sprinters step up..and take over "king" title from McEwen and Petacchi. But this doesnt seems to be easy at the grandtours..they need a lot experience before that. If Freire can keep himself without injury..he can be one of the future year gt sprints dominater.
He is a little more then just pure sprinter...but that my point..you have to look riders with experience

Well, he's quite young...so i think it's quite smart not to throw him out in the biggest races too early |

slipstream is entering small races in US and he can train with the big guns and race that races as his big goals and do something there and every year step up the challenge to be as good as everybody says he will be

C'mon be realistic. There's no way, and mark my words, no way whatsoever, that Phinney will be a revelation this year. Sure there's no clear definition on a 'revelation', but I'll buy Mads Kaggestad in the Management Game if Phinney becomes a 2008 revelation.
Sure he's a great talent, but geez, the guy (boy) is just 16 years old.

Mads Kaggestad.
(Ok, someone had to say it)
On a more serious note, I'm going to be a traitor to my country - I don't think Cavendish or Thomas will be much better than last year. I just don't think they will.
My bet on breakthrough rider is Gesink - it's obvious, but he's going to breakthrough at some point.
And Andy Schleck to have another great year
Now watch my predictions go completely wrong |

I believe Andy Schleck will do another great Grand Tour this year. But that wont exactly make him a revelation.
What i believe could be this years greatest revelation is Robert Hunter. Sure, he's so old he can hardly progress any further and therefore doesnt fit into this category. But i think he can seriously go on to challenge the great sprinters this year.

I do have to laugh about most names in here though. British and American people allways complain about French and Dutchies and Italians being chauvinistic, but when you read this topic...you simply got to admit they are just as worse at times |

thank you!
it's refreshing to not see homerism
there were even covert homers trying to pass their suggestions off (I'm on to you rodda )
One guy I rarely ever see mentioned anywhere is Sergei Kolesnikov. I'm quite sure he'll be a star one day. just not this next year.

looking through this topic, who wasn't chauvinistic besides Crommy? stuart and setzel because their countries have no riders who can possibly be revelations

I mean, Geraint Thomas, Philip Deignan and co are undoubtely very talented riders. But if you are talking about the revelation of the year, I expect names like Intxausti, Mollema, Cataldo, Gesink, Seeldrayers, Van Avermaet, Boasson Hagen and co.. B) |

Gesink and Van Avermaet I can buy, but not the others. it's too soon. No one breaks out in their first year unless they're sprinters. And even then it's very rare.

I was going to defend my personal nationalistic choices by saying none of my choices were from Yorkshire, but Adam Blythe is from Sheffield
They are going to be great riders though
also i must throw into the mix Haedo. I'm not really a fan of his but i believe he could have a good year

thanks setzel for being the only non-homer here (rodda I'm on to you )
It should be an interesting year for sure, with so many riders about to take a step up
How were my picks of Di Gregorio, Nibali, and Luis Leon Sanchez homer picks. I don't see any of them being American, but one of them is going to be the breakthrough star.

nevermind that. it was a poke at rodda. stuart's weren't homerisms either

ops:ops:ops:
I think anti-doping is going to be the revelation of the year, and will actually finally hammer into those Spanish dopers (not just cyclists). That's more of a very unrealistic hope, but hope I still do
There you go - not many expect that |
