Team Leader:
- Giovanni Visconti
We think that this race is made for Visconti. He likes the Australian hills, has a good punch and likes to attack.
Sprinter:
- Francisco Ventoso
Ventoso is a decent sprinter who comes good over hills. If he can catch the right wheel on one of the flat stages he could get some good results.
Free Role:
- Angel Madrazo
Angel is allowed to attack for hisself on the hills when Visconti stays near the other favourites.
Domestiques:
- Imanol Erviti
Erviti likes the flat parts of the races most. Therefore he is needed to protect Visconti for the most time of the race.
- Pablo Lastras
Pablo is here to ride for Visconti. He may get some free time to chase his own success in a breakaway but on the Old Willunga hill he has to support Giovanni.
- Argiro Ospina
Argiro is only there to help. Nothing more to say.
- Enrique Sanz
Enrique will protect Ventoso for most of the time.

Sylvester Szmyd Injured In Training Accident
Team Movistar's Sylvester Szmyd will be out of action for some time after his team confirmed that he was injured in a training collision with a car on the descent from the Stelvio Pass. Szmyd lost consciousness and was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Poland.
It is not confirmed yet but he is supposed to defer his race debut for his new team till end of April. This would mean that he will miss Tirreno-Adriatico for which he wanted to peak.

That said, I am loving it here with team Movistar i relly feel acepted, I was worried that being french and american, and that no one else is american or french would make me feel alone. But, even though the languge barrier is hard, these guys really care, there are a couple guys who can speak english but as for the others, they speak to me with their limited english and I try to respond in Spanish. Anyways, i knowyou guys want to see me in action so here's my schedule

Race Review: Santos Tour Down Under
We started with a solid team without our top guns but with some nice potencial for some Top 10s
Stage 1: Flat Stage
A very unspectacular stage. We missed breakaway and crash.
Ventoso choosed the wrong wheel and got 20th.
Stage 2: Flat Stage
We did not expected the attack of Jungels to be decisive. In the sprint of the peleton Ventoso had the wheel of John Degenkolb but that was definitiv the wring wheel.
Stage 3: Hilly Stage
This time the sprint finish was too hard for most sprinters and Ventoso could take profit by getting 7th.
Stage 4: Flat Stage
Lastras got into the BotD but had no chance after the pack tried to form some echelons.
Stage 5: Hilly Stage
Lastras attacked immediatly after the start. He had no chance when the pack first wanted to reel in the group because of too many riders in it and then tried again to form some echelons.
Stage 6: Flat stage
Everything like it was expected. Break goes away. Break gets catched. We are without a chance.
Stage 1 : | Francisco José Ventoso | 20th | s.t. | Stage 2 : | Francisco José Ventoso | 16th | +33 | Stage 3 : | Francisco José Ventoso | 7th | s.t. | Stage 4 : | Giovanni Visconti | 16th | s.t. | Stage 5 : | Giovanni Visconti | 16th | +36 | Stage 6 : | Francisco José Ventoso | 22nd | s.t. |
11 | Giovanni Visconti | + 46 | 28 | Ángel Madrazo | + 1'09 | 39 | Francisco José Ventoso | + 1'55 | 94 | Pablo Lastras | + 4'50 | 100 | Enrique Sanz | + 6'11 | 127 | Imanol Erviti | + 10'16 | 129 | Argiro Ospina | s.t. |
10 | Ángel Madrazo | + 1'06 (10) | 39 | Enrique Sanz | + 6'08 (39) | 46 | Argiro Ospina | + 10'13 (46) |
The best thing of this week was the weather. It was very sunny and warm and we liked this very much. Not so good were our results: 2 BotD and one Top10 on a stage + 11th in GC is not that what we hoped.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Rui Costa
Last year's 5th wants to go for the win this year. The route fits him perfectly with its hilly stages, one summit finish and a time trial. He will face strong opposition in Colombian Sergio Henao and Korean Po-Ding Kim but due to his home motivation bonus he is the top favourite in this race. Also, our sponsor wants a Top 3 in GC and we trust Rui to achieve this.
Free Elements/Domestiques
Rui Costa has an incredible amount of working power beside him. Guys like Benat or Andrey could possibly fight for a Top 5 for themselves. This time they are only as luxury domestiques here but with their time trial skills they could be a strong tactical element as the other teams could not let them go.
Stage 3 is the most difficult stage. We want to have a gap between Po-Ding Kim and Rui after this stage as Kim is the strongest time triallist around.
Stage 4 is a time trial. It will decide the race.

Volta ao Algarve - Review
We stayed invisible and protected Rui who stayed near the front. Luckily, no breakaway was successful.
We worked hard all day so that the break had never a chance to fight for the win. Together with Fabio Aru (Astana).
After the break was catched we tried a tactical weapon: Benat attacked with 40km to go. Rabottini (VIN), Chaves (COL), Rebellin (CCC) and Serpa (LAM) joined him soon.
With 31km to go, they get ruled in. 41 one guys are together.
Costa did not had the legs today to attack Kim Po-Ding who is supposed to be the best time triallist here but can at least stay in the front group.
Amador finished 8th being 36 seconds while Intxausti (14th), Eros Capecchi (17th) and Juan Jose Cobo (33th) are only 1'15 minutes behind Costa and winner Spilak.
Andrey Amador is the best placed rider before the Top 5 set off. He is 32'' ahead of Ulissi and 33'' ahead of team mate Benat Intxausti.
Costa beats Andrey's time by 24 seconds.
But it is not enough as Kim Po-Ding is 23'' faster. Congratulation to Team Europcar. At least we got a 2-3 and 6th (Intxausti) on this stage and some strong results in GC:
2 | Rui Costa | Movistar Team | + 24 | 5 | Andrey Amador | Movistar Team | + 1'26 | 9 | Beñat Intxausti | Movistar Team | + 2'38 | 21 | Eros Capecchi | Movistar Team | + 3'49 | 28 | Juan José Cobo | Movistar Team | + 4'17 | 42 | José Herrada | Movistar Team | + 6'43 | 43 | Albert Llanet | Movistar Team | + 7'15 | 66 | Eloy Teruel | Movistar Team | + 10'31 |
We won the Team Classification! This race will result in at least 200 points for the point ranking!

@Ollfardh: Po-Ding was just too strong in the TT. I hoped that Rui can get a gap on him on stage 3 but 78HI+home bonus was not enough against Kim(76HI).
@Jesleyh: It is impressive but i kind of expected this after seeing the full startlist. I mean, I had three possible winners(costa, amador, intxausti). I got my easy goal and some nice points (unfortunately, it was only cat.6). This race was a success for sure...

DEBUT
Hi everybody! After some traning rides, it was finally time for my first professional race: the Volta ao Algarve in Portugal. Only 4 days, incluidng 1 time-trial and 1 hilly stage. A perfect race to start my career! Our best rider here is Rui Costa, who is a real favourite in his home country. Stages 1 and 2 were of no importance to us, with both stages ending in a sprint. I finished in the peleton. Stage 3 was the queen stage, with finish uphill. Rui did a great job and finished 4th in the same time as winner Spilak, and Amador finished 8th. I came in 55th, 5 minutes behind. The last stage was a TT. Kim Po-Ding won the stage and the GC, with Rui Costa in second place. Amador was third in the TT, Intxausti 6th and I was......17th! My final GC position was 43th, which is not bad in your first race. My next race will be in cold Switzerland, with the GP di Lugano.
Stage 1: 54th (s.t.)
Stage 2: 74th (s.t.)
Stage 3: 55th (+ 5'00)
Stage 4 (TT): 17th (+ 2'15)
GC: 43th (+ 7'15)
Youth: 5th (+ 7'15)

Hey Albert,
first of all I want to congratulate you for your first race. You've done a great job. You did not only helped Rui on his quest to a Top 3 by controlling the breakaway on stage 3 until Benat attacked but you still got 43rd in GC after that. That is awesome for someone who just turned 18. If you continue to work hard on your skills (and I am sure you do) than I could see you to surprise everyone else. Just use this season as a learning season and learn from the likes of Valverde or Costa. But please, don't have too high expectation on yourself. Just try your best and I am sure you're surprised about what you can achieve so early in your carreer.
Best wishes,
Michael

We came here with the second of 18 season goals. Our sponsor wanted us to get a top 10 and we did. But back to the beginning:
Experts were saying that this was going to be a mass sprint. Rising star Willem Brouwer is propably the best sprinter here and he can also climb decent enough so that he was the man to be beaten. We also bought our top sprinter J.J. Rojas who wanted to get fourth.
We worked out a master plan to surprise the peleton and destroy the sprinter teams. Our plan was that Angel hides himself in the BotD so that he could help a later attacker.
Not even the TV saw him in the front group.
In the next step we wanted to split the peleton. Therefore, Juan Jose & Benat are setting an insane pace at the front of the group.
As you can see, it worked out brilliantly. It just looked like a long string. And just watch at the pain in their faces. They were at the limit!
Then we hit the second climb and Rui started his big attack:
He went so fast that some rivals said afterwards they did not even saw him. (i think this is bullshit. They were just too weak.) He catched up to the front group and Angel helped him to even increase his lead.
When we came to the last few kilometres he was suddenly back in the pack. It seemed like he had a puncture.
So it was up to Rojas. Despite of the fact that our world class leadout train placed him badly he still got a sixth place.

@all: Thank you for your comments. They help a lot for writing futher reports etc. I'm glad you liked it.
@Ollfardh: Yes, I am. But to be fair it was you who turned it into a sponsor goal. I did not liked it so much. I mean, it is not like I have so many good sprinters that I can trust on them in a race that will most likely end in a sprint...

Movistar in good early form
With a very strong performance in Lugano our team shows strong early form. Working engine Vladimir Karpets shows his tactical mastermind with a very good strategy. Out of a group of 6 rider he wins the race of caregory 6.
He is not the only one in good shape as Eloy and Andrey finish inside the top 10, too.
The world tour races can come now. They are very important for us as there are 2 season goals and one monuments belong the next three races.
In Paris-Nice Alejandro fights for a top 5 while Nairo wants the white jersey in Italy.
WT.3 Paris-Nice [3 – 10 March]
WT.3 Tirreno-Adriatico [6 – 12 March]
WT.1 Milan-San Remo [17 March]
Leaders starting their season:
Valverde, Quintana and Oget will now start their season. As mentioned before Valverde will start in France. He will face some real strong opposition as most other teams aiming for a good position, too.
We found this list off goals in the world wide web.
Movistar | Top 5 | Leopard Trek | Top 5 | Omega Pharma | Top 3 | Team Sky | Top 3 | Belkin | Top 10 | Saxo Tinkoff | Top 3 | Lotto | Top 10 | Garmin Sharp | Top 3 | Cofidis | Stage Win | Argos | Climber Jersey | FDJ.fr | Top 5 + Stage Win | Cannondale | Top 10 | Euskaltel | Stage Win | AG2R | Top 5 |
Therefore, we think that he will face the likes of Froomebot, Contador and other strong riders like Kwiatkowski, Talansky/Hesjedal or Chris Horner.
Just like Valverde classic specialist Maxime Oget will start his season in France. He will act as super domestique for Alejandro. For him, it is more a preperation race for the classic season where his first races are Milan-San Remo, E3 and Gent-Wevelgem.
Last, but not least, we want to see how Quintana wins the young rider classification and hopefully even more. He got a strong support squad to achieve something big.
More information coming soon...

COLD
Hi everybody! After a sunny 4 days in Portugal, it's now time for a race in Switzerland. And it was cold, very cold. Luckily, it was only a one-day race, the GP di Lugano. The race was mainly flat with a small hill, so not really my specialisation. My team-mates here included Amador, Teurel and Karpets. We had Karpets in the break, which managed to stay out all race. And who is the winner? VLADIMIR! Eloy did a great job with a 7th place and Andrey was 10th. Congratulations to all. I finished 73th, almost 7 minutes behind Karpets.
Result: 73th (+ 6'45)

Hello Albert,
i know that Lugano was not the race that fits your strengths best. However, it is important to learn how to move inside the peleton on flat stages because (unfortunatelly) all big mountainous races have also some sprinter stages. You would propably love a GT with 21 summit finishes but that's not reality. So you have to learn to ride those flat roads, too. Thus, you have to race some "easier" races, too.
But the next race will be something special for you. You can ride the famous Tirreno-Adriatico. There you have many first times. The first mountainous pro race. The first team time trial. And the first time against a pure World Tour field.
Your task will be to help Quintana but don't feel any pressure. Our team should be strong enough to achieve our goals even when you have some bad days. And if you do well, you will get co-leadership in Criterium International. So, do your best and enjoy the time there!
Michael
PS: How did you feel during the last time? Are you in form?
