Carrefour : From Bottom to World Top | OVER
The Hobbit
Interesting style of reporting, it's actually quite nice, I like it, also I guess you could get it all done much faster with this.

However it is quite hard to follow and you don't get to see so much.
Ultimately it's your choice, it's your story and whatever you choose, I'm sure this will be a very good story.

@The Hobbit: Thanks for your comment I will take your remarks into account Wink

Rider Presentation : Franck Dauphin

"Hello, my name is Franck Dauphin, I'm 27 years old and I'm a rider from the formation Carrefour. I started cyclism at the age of 20 and I quickly realized that I was quite fast on short distance. My coach, in the amateur team I was riding, trained me at sprint and within the two following years I had won already 5 races. I never really thought of Pro Cycling as I came into it quite late but then Mr. Laval came to me and he offered me an interesting contract. The fact that we will race smaller races really motivated me because I know that I will have the occasion of express myself. In the team there is no role really defined and if during one race a rider bring me to the sprint, the next day it could be me leading him out."

Last week Franck won the 4th stage of l'Étoile de Bessèges, he also took the 5th position in the General Ranking

YAY! Another story from you! I personally prefer the longer reports but I know that they can sometimes be a pain to write. Obviously your choice in the end. Great start for the team too!

@Cycleman123: I know but it's the sprint stages that bored me so I want to report them quicker.
Thanks Wink

Stage 1

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/01med_zps6efd3760.jpg

The first stage was a completely flat stage where the wind could be very decisive. Of course the boys did not listen to my warning during the briefing and with 15 km left they got stuck in a second group, they tried to come back but in the end they all lost 1'34 on the winner who was John Degenkolb (ARG)

A very difficult time trial was waiting for the boys, 20 kilometers flat with the see by their side and then 2 kilometers of Mont Saint-Clair with some portion with 13%. Unfortunately they were not prepare to that and Maximino Jimenez Vergara the best time of the team ended 62nd at 1'38 from the winner who was Tony Martin (OPQ)

Today the finish was very hard, I was feeling that the breakaway could make something this is why I asked one of the boys to be in there. Maximino tried but it's Sylvain Ancelin who made it with 4 other riders. The breakaway made it till the end but Sylvain did not managed to follow them in the last up-hill section. He ended the stage in the same time as the pack like all the other riders of the team.

Sylvain Ancelin: "Today I tried but Egoitz Garcia Etxegibel (COF) (winner today) was simply to good, when he accelerated in the last small climb my legs told me not to go of course I tried to follow him but I still had the bad legs of the Time Trial of yesterday."

Stage 4

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/04med_zpsb4a6eb25.jpg

The Squad:

Ancelin Sylvain
Bailleux Michaël
Druelle Kenny
Jimenez Vergara Maximino
Kempf Axel
Martín Mozos César

The race was not designed for us, and with all the riders coming from world tour it was very hard for my boys to compete with them.
César went in the breakaway with 8 others riders and he took the 3rd position in the intermediate sprint and the second position in the mountain sprint.

In the climb of Mont Faron, 4 riders decided to leave the pack, they were :
- Sergio Luis Henao Montoya (SKY)
- Damiano Cunego (LAM)
- Steven Kruijswijk (BLA)
- Stefan Denifl (IAM)

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/06med_zps1509a7e3.jpg

The pack never saw them again as Damiano Cunego took the win.

Nice story to be followed.

I am fan of Carrefour, to get riders from France and Spain is so logical Shock

Was wondering if you were not lying about hard level, but Tour de Mediterannée proves me wrong Wink

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/08med_zps776577d2.jpg

This was the hardest stage for the boys, I though that with the finish after a downhill, the breakaway could have its chances.
This is why this morning before the start I asked them to be in the breakaway to anticipate the battle of the GC men.

Kenny Druelle made it, he was in the breakaway with 7 other riders including names like Geniez (FDJ) and Barguil (ARG).

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/09med_zps410aa6ed.jpg

At the foot steps of the last climb the two favorites attacked, Cunego (LAM) and Henao (SKY) were off.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/10med_zpsc5826025.jpg

In the downhill the looked at each other and the main group where Michaël Bailleux was the only rider of the team.

Francesco Reda (AND) tried to leave the pack in the last kilometer but he was too weak to resist to the puncher.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/04%20Tour%20Med/11med_zps54c4764a.jpg

And in the end it's Jonathan Hivert (SOJ) who took the victory. The GC went to Lieuwe Westra (VCD). Michaël ended at the 40th position in the same time as the winner. He moved up to the 25th position in the General Ranking.

Rider Presentation : Michaël Bailleux

Hello, my name is Michaël Bailleux, I'm 19 years old and I'm curently riding for the team Carrefour.
My young age might be surprising but in the junior category I was quite regular and my results attracted Mr Laval who offered me a professional contract, I'm engaged for 3 years with Carrefour and their plan are really interesting, I'd like to bring the team to the highest category possible.
About my style now, I think I'm more of a climber/Puncher, Time trial are not really my thing and when the road is too flat I got bored. My objectif for this season and for the 2 following is to be on the podium of at least a stage race with some mountain stages.

Michaël ended 25th in the latest Tour Méditérranéen Cycliste and he managed to stay within the main group during the two hardest stages.

This race was quite important for us but we did not have the best squad to compete here. Anyway, Sylvain took the maximum points given today for the Mountain Ranking. After that he stayed with the breakaway.

With 10 Km to go, Sébastien Rosseler (GRS) attacked in the breakaway. Sylvain had the right reaction as he let him go he was saving energy for the next day to save his jersey.

Finally, the everyone arrived together and Damien Monier (BGD) won the sprint.

This day it was everything about keeping the KoM jersey in the team, Sylvain took some time bonus in the preview stage and he was not authorized to leave the pack so we send Kenny in the breakaway.

On the bottom of the HC climb Sylvain anticipated the fight for the remaining points.

At the front, Kenny fought hard to take the 20 points but it's Théo Vimpère (BIG) who won the KoM competition this year, too bad.

With 37km Kenny was feeling bad, his breakaway companion left him and he waited for the pack in which he did not managed to stay. (Axel Kempf and David Bey has already been left but when they caught him they brought him to the finish line).

In the end it's a one-two for Sojasun with the win of Julien SImon and the Second position of Jonathan Hivert.

I'm quite disappointed about the losse of the KoM jersey but the boys showed me that they were fighters, they tried and it's what I will remember.

Too bad that Kenny had a bad day because I'm sure he could have done better.

See you,

Greg L.

Vuelta Ciclista a Andalucia - Ruta del Sol

The Squad:

Bailleux Michaël
Broutin Richard
Decaux Eric
Jimenez Vergara Maximino
Martín Mozos César

Hello my name is Franck Laval, Greg's brother and associate, I'm also a former cyclist and I'm part of the staff of the team. I lived during ten years in Spain so I will be the DS in every Spanish races this year.

Stage 1

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM0001_zpsa4b7c98d.jpg

As my brother have already said, the boys are not very good at Time Trial.
There is one result that surprised me, it was Maximino, who, when he finished the Prologue, was 8th in the provisional Ranking. Of course none of the beast of that discipline were already off but it's an encouraging result for the future. In the end Maximino ended 37th 25" behind Bradley Wiggins (SKY) the winner of the stage.

It was a very hard stage for the boys but the finish result was almost perfect.

First we had César in the breakaway with 3 other riders.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM0008_zps83c8b263.jpg

With 60 km left, a group of 6 riders left the pack. Michaël tried to left with them but he reacted too late.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM0009_zps834c1290.jpg

After 20 km of intensive chase, the two groups were united. It was hard for César, who was fighting to resit at the high pace set by Euskatel - Euskadi Riders.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM0010_zpseefdba00.jpg

There was only one man stronger than anybody, this rider was Oliver Zaugg (STB) who arrived 2'36 before the pack. He is the new leader of the race.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM0011_zps50e0c388.jpg

And during the downhill, While everybody was concentrated on the performance of Oliver Zaugg (STB) a young man of 19 years old attacked, the pack never get him back in his ranks. Congratulation to Michaël who ended at the second position of the stage.

Stage 3

This stage was categorized as flat but I was sure that no sprinter would be able to resist to the finial climb.

Like always, I send a rider in the breakaway. Today it was Maximino. He was really involved and he also took some mountain points.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM00121_zps6ebba213.jpg

He was even the last rider to get caught in the last 20 kilometers of the stage.

i1272.photobucket.com/albums/y382/Axel_Choteau/Carrefour/Races/2013/06%20Vuelta%20Ciclista%20a%20Andalucia%20-%20Ruta%20del%20Sol/PCM0013_zps10359a49.jpg

A small group of 9 riders left the pack in the last few kilometers.

And it's Andrey Amador Bikkazakova (MOV) who won the stage.
Michaël ended in the pack not losing time against the other GC contestants.

The last stage of the race, was perhaps the stage where we had all the opportunities. First there were our two Spanish riders in the breakaway. They ride perfectly as Maximino will bring the KoM Jersey home

Spoiler
Sorry I don't have screenshots of the breakaway (accidentaly delete it Rolling Eyes

With 20 kilometers to go, a man, Daniel Moreno Fernandez (KAT), decided it was time to accelerate, he caught the breakaway so easily, Maximino tried to follow him but he was too strong.

Team Ranking:

Katusha Team

This was my first race as a DS and I think it went quite well: The team get a top 3 in the 2nd stage, the KoM jersey (1st Maximino, 2nd César). Michaël ended 18th in the GC and 3rd in the young ranking only 27" behind Jésus Herrada Lopez (MOV).

My next race as a DS will be Vuelta a Murcia.

See you,

Franck L.
