How unfortunate
Well you just have to race like a maniak, and try to get evry small amount of money from intermediate sprints etc... |

STAGE 1
"Welcome guys! We know it is going to be a tough race, probably too hilly for our team to win especially with Roche and Uran present. But still we need money and hope for a Top 10 or better.
Today there is a ridiculus number of intermediate sprint, so we need Nic, Bernard or Sergio in the breakaway to collect points and seconds without too much effort. Artem, do your best to stick with the best. Cameron and Alex, just help Artem."
Cogburn was hanging at the end of the bunch when Ovechkin took the opportunity to win the 1st intermediate sprint.
After Van Ulden tried for the break away, Hamilton succedeed and place him 2nd or 3rd for all intemediate sprints.
Then the best attacked and Roche wins it easily. Hamilton resisting impressively and Ovechkin finishing in a second group.

"It is going to be difficult to beat Rodriguez, Andy Scheck or Moreno today But let's give it a try! Climbers can breakaway and Artem stays with the pack as long as possible.
Van Ulen makes the breakaway

Miller takes the breakaway but a puncture takes him back to the bunch.
No regret as he isn't strong enough to stick with Verdugo (again!) Wegmann and Tankink who make it to the line.
Ovechkin couldn't stay with the best and finish in a 4th group

" Same tactic as usual: breakaway for strong guys and Artem sticking with the pack"
The breakaway boys have all been cought, Van Ulden, being one of the first to crack. Ovechkin push hard but that wasn't enough given all the big names taking part in this race .

Miller makes the breakaway but Huguet is too strong and sprints the 1st climb, Miller passing second. Miller attacks 4 kilometeres before the 2nd and resists the sprint of Huguet to take the points.
The pack is then closing the gap, they close it back but too late and Top10 is trusted by breakaway members.

Looks like Jellybelly's absolute leader is Ovechkin.
The team are a bit unlikely coming up against such big teams in these early races.
Goodness knows how PCM assign jerseys, like Miller in Oman, I think its just random! |

STAGE 5
"ITT is hilly and you are not among favorites once agin. But we so need a result. Go Artem, go!"
Ovechkin is for a bad start lossing almost 30'' at intermediate 1 ranking very poorly.
At the Intermediate 2, he is still down more than 20'' ranking in the 2nd half of the table, but hills were over and he has still some energy left.
So he pushes hard, and suprise, he beats the best time by 10''
It wasn't enough as the favorites were still to come but that secures a great Top 10 given the competition here with 1 stage to go.

"Guys, we have been working together for 2 months. And it is really unfortunate that I need to give you such a speach. It is certainly my fault as I have been too optimistic and I certainly did not anticipate such a ferous competition and so many resusals from race organisors.
Today we have achieved 1 win, 2 podium and some nice places.
That is certainly better than what the team used to get. so Congratulations for this.
But, we are loosing money each month and we are down to our last 400 EUR in the Bank. Plus our sponsor is letting us down for next season so we need to invest some money to find a new one.
" Yeap, I don't like it either but we are on the verge to collapse. Unless we can collect huge results for next 2 months, this team will be history.
And I got some more bad news for you:"
"But let's focus on the races we have been accepted to. And fight for everything: an intermediate sprint, a 1 day KOM, anything"

A nice itt in Oman, and also a very good top 10
I think you can get some money in those 2.2 races, and what a shame the team gets so many refusals |

"Usual drill for you guys: go in the breakaway and protect Artem in the pack. Huge competition once again!
Miller makes the break he managed to save a 20th place while Ovechkin couldn't follow the best.

"With the last hill close to the finish line, Artem you should try someting. Few secs at the top might be enough to win it. Of course Sutherland is the big favorite but with Mancebo you are the main overall outsider. Today it is a priori not your terrain so you might as well suprise them all.
Oh, and guys, remember than claiming intermediate sprints and mountains points are vital for the team. So no breakaway without a strong Jelly Belly in it!
Van Ulden makes the main break away, is the strongest and is closed to succeed.
But get cought. Ovechkin accelerates just before the top having let other favorites close the gap to Van Ulden. And yes, he makes it to the line!

STAGE 2
"Fantastic job yesterday! That is the kind of performance that can save the team if repeated.
Today is another hilly stage. Artem you try to stick to Sutherland. Guys we may have the yellow jersey but we need to claim the money attached to intermediate sprints. So breakaway today!"
Hernandez, Miller and Van Ulden attack all day long but get no pass and the pack reforms again and again. Ovechkin can still use a complete pack to collect a lot of Mountain points with few effort as no one else seems interested.
However, when Guama De La Cruz attacks, we had no strong rider left but Ovechkin who does not chase too hard as Sutherland is looking very strong, hoping for Mountain stage and ITT to close the gap.

And for the rest of you, don't forget early stage points..."
Everything is according to the plan, except Ovechkin was out of gaz at the top and unfortunately Guama De La Cruz resists to Sutherland so he can joins him at the beginning of the downhill.
The gap is closing but so is the distance to the finish. Can Ovechkin make it?
Spoiler No he coouldn't.
And with such a time gap in GC, the overall win will be very hard to achieve...

STAGE 4
"Still many hills but some flat to finish. Breakaway and if an oppotunity arises Artem, you know what to do "
(well I blinked for real, the guys were so surprised that they made joke of me for the rest of the week...)
Miller makes the breakaway of 4 and claims enough mountain points to steal the shirt from his leader!
At the end of the stage, the chase has been ferous so when Sutherland and Guama De La Cruz attack only leaders have some power left in their legs. But as often Ovechkin couldn't sprint to anwser the attack. He had to let Sutherland go at the end as his poor sprint capacities are not good enough to close the gap.

STAGE 5
"Another hilly stage today. Should I repeat myself? Sorry Artem but your team mates made it clear that I shoud not blink, so I can't repeat myself."
Hernandez is the one in the breakaway today. And when the last hills come, Ovechkin takes a stab followed by?
Yeap the strong men in the top 3 again. But in what order?

STAGE 6
"Flat stage for a change. But our tactic does not change..."
Big breakaway today, following Miller's attack with 3 riders, 2 other attack waves come, each time with one of our rider, so we get Miller, Hernandez and Dickeson in the big break away.
I really think we can make it to the end and claim another stage victory, but
the peleton closes the gap and Sutherland wins a massive sprint for a change. He is really the strongest man here...

STAGE 7
"ITT is a great opportunity for us to close this fantastic race with another victory. Artem, you are the favorite, even though Sutherland is the other one and will be hard to beat. Don't look at the GC, focus on the stage. We all believe you can do it!"
Ovechkin is focused as never, pushing hard as he knows.
He beats the best provisional time by 3 seconds. Satisfaction is short though as Sutherland lowers it by 3 extra seconds.
I have lied saying he is 1 sec down only so it is full of hopes that he gives it all as line is approaching.
Yes man! You did it. OK I promise not to lie to you ever again. You deserve it

@Abelbaba Yeah, promising indeed, 2 wins and a final podium I like it!
@ The Rider: yeap hard speech got all the team focus. I would love to put a story banner in my introduction and signature, send you an MP soon
@all: I would welcome any advice or trick to improve the story (just discover how to copy/paste classification with proper table format and how to take away circles in screenshot but I am sure I am still missing a lot)

Artem put in some strong performances in Uruguay and also got a couple of good stage wins along the way
He totally deserves his place on the podium |
