I felt isolated in Newcastle. It was so different, I felt I just didn't belong here. So, as an eleven year old I took up cycling again. I was really committed to it, every day after I'd done my work I'd go out on a bike and ride around. The Pennines were easy compared to the climbs I grew up on, and as thus I much preferred the short punchy climbs around here. But my absolute favourite thing to do was put the power down on the long straight flat roads.
In these days I didn't watch much cycling, I wasn't even aware it was a sport. But eventually my parents encouraged me to join a cycling club, which I did.
I rode with the men initially, they had no junior divisions, so they were reluctant to let me join. They were shocked when I destroyed all of them in races, I could even out sprint them, something I'd never even done before. They entered me in some local races, not just for my age but adult ones too, I got some decent results and heads started to turn.
Yay 2 pages what a milestone...

UCI announcement
On the 4th January 2013 there will be a trial event in Newcastle open to the top young riders in the world! there will be no teams and after several pre-trials the final qualification will be between 8 riders. The actual trials will be in 3 half stages, the first one will be a very short pan flat sprint between all 8, where we judge the rider's racing brains to get Ina good position, and also raw pace.
Stage 2 will be a short rolling route before a steep kick up to the finish line. It will judge uphill sprints and attacking, vital for wins in the Ardennes. The final stage will be a 20k TT on flat straight roads for time trial and power output. This is an advertisement for all pro teams and we will make sure at least one rider gets a seat.
Wow, when I heard this it became my primary ambition for the next few years, I just had to be ready for this. The last 2 stages ar suited well for me and we never know about the first, I may even surprise a few people. I trained hard, as I'm sure plenty of others will be too, and thankfully by now I am used to the January weather in Newcastle! but those from the Med may not be.
Wow, a world trial race on my doorstep, I've been lucky before, but this is a fantastic chance, I must take it.

Guys thought I'd put in a little taster of my new project in the stage editor.
(It's not the trials, I did make them but the reason they're only 50k and pan flat is because I'm lazy, not deliberate....:redface
( I know its steep, but its a deceptive camera view )

Thought I'd push ahead quite a lot this weekend because I'm bored with the build up
I trained really hard for the race and was in fantastic shape when it finally arrived, at 17 I was at the bottom end of the qualification, but I was still quietly confident.
STAGE 1
Stage one was the flat stage. Strangely there were no photographers (I deleted the JPGs ) needless to say I had low expectations! but easily surpassed them,
We relayed early so it was fair, I was finding the pace easy, but so were the others.
With 20k to go we started vying for positions, I hid myself behind the shortest stockiest person I could find in the vague hope they were a sprinter.
As the sprint opened up I saw I was in a brilliant place. My lead out shot away, annihilating the competition, so fast I couldn't even hold his wheel! I slipped back but not quite as much as I probably should, and ended a miraculous 3rd.
Afterwards I went to see him and congratulated him on his win! he said well done back and said he was looking forward to tomorrow, this got me worried, if he won twice then he'd be the absolute focus of the ProTour teams attention, and I'd have blown my opportunity. His name was Ricardo Acosta, and he was from Argentina, so I begged the weather would turn around a bit, I wasn't a fan of the cold, but I was betting he'd like it less. |

Stage 2
This was the hilly stage, my chance of shining, but I had to beat Ricardo.
The race started the same way, us relaying on the front.
The attacks came from those who didn't fancy waiting for the last climb.
With 10k to go I made my move, Ricardo was straight on my wheel though, he didn't do any work on this the penultimate climb or the descent that followed, he stole my wheel for the sprint, the peleton a good minute behind.
Under 1k to go and I started to distance him uphill, somehow some fellows in replica jerseys had got on the back and were disrupting the peleton behind, how did the organisers let this happen,(that was me catching the groupetto )
I won, Ricardo held on for second, but faded badly but held on for second. I went to see him after and he told me yesterday he was bluffing and is a poor climber, he said he was lucky to have my wheel and it wasn't he didn't want to relay, he couldn't! |

stage 3
This was in my preferred discipline, the TT, Ricardo didn't race today, he was shattered after yesterday and is apparently a poor Time trialist.
This is me setting off, the guy behind me uhh, forgot his kit and had to where a replica jersey, yeah that must be it...
It was my first time on a pro standard TT bike, but I wasn't finding it so hard, maybe it was the pan flat dead straight road...
I crossed the line
FASTEST, and as the last man out, i'd done it! I'd beaten my nearest rival, Frenchman Logan Leblanc by 50 seconds, what a day!
It took me 31:06:41 to complete the course , and afterwards we compared our times to that of some pros he rode earlier, I did great only losing 40 secs to great riders like Phinney and Millar.
I felt sure I'd get the contract now, but after the race I spoke to Ricardo again, he was by now a good friend so I decided we should stick together where we went, after all with his talent he was as sure of a seat as me! |

Spoiler no this is not turning into a two rider story, even I don't rip people off that much! Anyway Ian probably has it copyrighted or something...
As expected me and Ricardo have been offered lots of contracts, so it's up to you which team you want us to sign for, just post it here. |

No matter what level, just you're ideas.
About the pace, I've had a lot of time today and I finished making the trials and did the actual race about when I posted about the Tsunami so all I had to do was write the short report, it will slow considerably. |

It seems like you have a good layout for a story, and hopefully you can keep going with this
Btw, maybe he should go to Champion Systems? |

I'll say Drapac.
Spoiler P.S. Good start! It seems you're already more successful than me! (Not that that's an achievement!) I know it's late but good luck!

I wouldn't say I'm as successful as you yet, my victories are just in trial events, and I fear my poor PCM skills will hold him back not his lack of ability. |

UCI Announcement
The coming of a new Indonesian proffesional cyclist into the peleton has caused quite a stir. So much so that a rich anonymous business man, who only wants to be known as The_Hobbit has funded and planned the creation of a new Tour of Indonesia into the Continental tour calendar. It will be a 2.hc race and as thus open to almost all teams, but If there are too many applicants some will be turned down. The businessman has claimed that it is what the rider deserves and as a fan of cycling he found it necessary to celebrate this great occasion with a random donation of millions of pounds....
Stage 1 rolls through coastal roads on hilly/flat terrain, there is a flat finish but the climbs before it should be enough to dislodge most core sprinters.
Stage 2 is similar, the two climbs are a long way from the line but the finish itself is on a nasty kick up so it will be one for the punchier sprinters in the model of Goss and Sagan.
Stage 3 is an almost pan flat 38km TT, definitely one for the specialists.
Stage 4 is another sprinter/puncher stage there is a sharp kick up just before the sprint opens up, but it is downhill for the final kilometres.
Stage 5 is the first true sprinter's stage, it is almost pan flat all the way into the line which is slightly downhill.
The final stage is a rolling 40k TT, but it isn't hilly enough to put off any of the big favourites.
In summary this is an interesting tour, it seems made for the TTists but if they are caught out on the (sprint) stages before they may be out before they know, while those confident on their ITT abilities will look to hold on till their favourite discipline, there is plenty of time for punchers to get the gap they need and attack. Even a sprinter may get a chance if they hold on over the hills.
Carry on posting teams and comments!!!
