The perks of having a GC rider with a decent sprint stat
Still you have to feel sorry for those missing out.
I initially was hoping for somewhere around 6th or 7th, but those 80-something seconds can come in handy.
Important is to score better than B&O and Pendleton's.

Interesting how often in those splits the worse GC/mountain rider of my team de la Fuente manages to get into the 1st group. Cobo never does
Good that I am just stage hunting so some sprinters and some climbers and no ambitions of getting a top 3 result or so here.

Frustrating with Sella, but happy enough with 2nd place on the stage.
Gotta take this stage on the chin, hope the rest of the race has some better luck!

A shame to see big names give away 81 seconds out of nowhere.
Congratulations to Pokerstars and beagle, well done Degenkolb! He will prove quite a rider next season, when finished development. |

Forero, you idiot! You get a perfect lead-out like that and you still find a way how to completely blow out all that effort. You are right, Miguel, he just fails, ProTour is probably too big level for him... The only positive thing about him in this race is that thankfully to effort of my team for him, all my important riders and mainly Henao survived in the front peloton.
It's nice to for one time to miss on that split with my leader for general classification. Still bad for everybody, who lost a solid time here, I know that feeling from this season very well.
Congrats to Pokerstars, they just can't stop winning in these sprint stages!

Weeeey, Meyer won the bunch sprint! A pity it wasn't the first bunch..
Kind of unnecessary though, having four Koenigsegg riders pacing a dropped group over the line when Pedraza is in the first group. Or maybe they actively created the gap, executing a masterful plan to put time into some of the GC riders! Well played, well played.

Cheap tactics sir, cheap. Great start with the entire team losing time apart from Scarponi, who will proceed to lose minutes on the hill stage. At least it might mean aggressive breakaways. I won't get my hopes too high though! |

Solid start for us with Goss in 3rd relative to Meyer not being present for the sprint.

Damn. I knew before the race this was a very good chance for a stage win.
Great to have 5 riders in the first group though compared to the two B&O and Pendleton's have up there, especially as 50th place is 10 minutes down already.

Uuh that was very close to a stage win.
But I would have liked it more if de la Fuente would have managed to stay there as Cobos bonus seconds are as good as for nothing.
Cobo was dropped at the 1st stage whilst de la Fuente wasn't.
But with de la Fuente also taking mountain ranking points the only goal "probably a stage win" is replaced by goals "probably a stage win or probably the KOM jersey or probably both?"

5th is a pretty good result, lets see if I can get into a couple of breaks now.

Good win for you and Paolo, it seems that he was pumped up by your words about him loosing time on the hills.

A lot of huffing and puffing from Sella, all you can ask really.
Gotta hope he continues in that vein.

Shhh, don't share my motivational techniques, he might take it easy now!! Haha, I still don't hold much hope for him staying up there in the days to come, but yellow and a stage win is a great way to bounce back in style!
