Introducing....
Mikhael Ignatiev, 20 Mikhail has a strong TT stat and also has a lot of potential. Mikhail won an olympic gold in the points race and has come 1st and 2nd in the last two editions of the World Under 23 Time Trial race.
Marcel Kittel, 17 The 2005 Junior world time trial champion also has a huge potential that he is eager to unleash.
And 2 Swiss brothers:
Danilo Wyss (20) and Marcel Wyss (19) . We were keen to sign Danilo as his Sprinting stat of 72 could come in handy if we are to get any results in the first season, and Marcel came with him in the package. Their potentiials are 6 and 7 respectively. |

Most stats are around 62-61 now, I dont think anyones progressed to 63 in anything at all yet. At current, the best Czech sprinter has a stat of 72. Other than the Wyss brothers, every rider has potential 8.

Yeh, I did let Rozehnal attack in the Classic de Almeria. I underestimated the hills though and he fell away from the break and I made him withdraw.
My team are back in training now though, I realised it was stupid for them to not bother training at all. |

Eurosport's Team Begins to Progress Eurosport.com
After a couple of months of training for the Eurosport.com team, they were back into action at the end of April with some promising results, particularly on the cobbles.
It began in the Ronde van Noord Holland where Ben Swift finished 21st and Sven Boonen 24th in the teams' first encounter with cobbles.
The GP Herning in Denmark offered a sterner test of cobbles.
Our young riders were soon motivated in the early sections in cobbles, where they kept up front while ProTour riders from DFL and CSC fell back (Before catching up again). Dane, Kurt Elkjær made the breakway. Towards the second half of the race a front group of 16 included Elkjær, had a lead over a 2nd pack. Elkjær fell back while Schanke, Schleck + Boonen worked to seperate Eurosport.com's riders permanently from those that kept falling back in the cobbles.
They did their job and fell back a bit as a group of 12 formed, with 13th the best outcome. The sprint began and we said goodbye to Kurt Asle-Arvesen who went on to take 13th, but the Eurosport riders were determined to take a top 20 placing and 3 riders achieved that.
1 Sven Vanthourenhout RABOBANK CONTINENTAL 5h37'36
16 Ben Swift EUROSPORT.COM + 12'04
17 Eric Kuijlen EUROSPORT.COM s.t.
18 Adam Blythe EUROSPORT.COM s.t.
21 Jani Minkenen EUROSPORT.COM s.t.
24 Jurgen Schánke EUROSPORT.COM + 15'18
25 Marc Schleck EUROSPORT.COM + 16'06
The Colliers classic was less successful as our riders dont quite have the stamina to keep up when the peleton starts to chase the break, which included Elkjær. At one stage the break looked certain to be caught but with 20km left they looked like they would hang on. Elkjær couldnt though and fell back at 10km but 5 of the 9 riders did make it to the finish first. Elkjær was our best finisher, coming 44th - inside the first group.
While this took place, another Eurosport side raced in a 4 stage race in Poland. Ignatieve, Thomas and Svensson were the stronger riders as proved after the first two stages. Stage 3 was Ignatievs chance to perform in a time trial, unfortunately his fitness is not quite ready and the course was possibly too hilly as he took 20th. Intel-Action controleld Stage 4, and broke away from the back on the main hill and soon catching the break which included Lustrinelli and Lucarelli. My 2 guys then fell back towards the peleton and then further back. The 3 stronger rides stook with the peleton, as did Dave Rozehnal and as a result Svensson gained 2 GC places to 29th, with Thomas 31st overall. |

As the Giro D'Italia began in Italy, 9 of my riders were also in Italy, at the Pinarello Factory. They were here in order to improve their Time Trial technique and Ignatiev aims to use the training to gain a good results in Stage 3 of the Tour of Belgium later this month. They started with 4 days but were then joined by Kuijlen and Boonen for a further 7 days.
You can see what a huge effect it has had on the time trial skills of the team:
Ignatiev gained 5 while the othere gained at least 7 points. |

The Tour of Belgium would turn out to be the best tour of the season so far.
Stage 1
Irishman Aidan Finegan got himself into the 6 man breakway for the relatively flat stage, with 1 KoM climb in the middle, I didnt have enough bloue bar at that point to win the points so had to settle for second, in Hindsight i should have used up a drink in order to have more blue bar as I ended up losing a lot of time with him anyway. Aidan fell back and the rest of the break was caught at 3.5km. By then only Danilo Wyss and Mikhael Ignatiev were left and Danilo took 21st in the sprint.
Stage 2
Sven and Eric (Boonen and Kuijlen) set off in todays break of 5 and Sven made sure a Boonen would win one sprint in the race - his brother Tom was not participating. The 5 were then caught by 2 others including a stronger sprinter in Dietziker. Sven could therefore only take 2nd in the next sprint and he and Eric were caught as they crosses the third sprint, with the other 5 caught shortly after.
It became a tough battle for the whole of my team to stay in the peleton but Ignatiev did well and hung on in as the sole representee from Eurosport.com.
Stage 3
The time trial!
With all my riders riding early on the time trial was more interesting as at one stage 8 of the 9 were on course. Of them it was Kittel who sent the benchmark time.
Lars Boom was the first 3 star favourite on course and he was immediately followed by another 3-star favourite - our very own Mikhail. The strong rating from the bookies surprised us considering our performances over the season but we knew Mikha had a chance. Boom beat Kittel's time at the checkpoint and Mikha was just 9 seconds behind Boom at that point. Boom kept up his pace but Miha was able to increase his speed and close the gap but not quite enough, falling 3 seconds short of Lars Boom, with Kittel now 3rd.
Jartazi's Kaupas beat Mikha at the checkpoint but not the finish, but then Dmitri Gabrovski stormed to the win - taking a minute over Lars Boom! I sure hope he had a drugs test! Gusev (CSC) and Van Schalen (Ubbink) also went marginally quicker than Mikha who happily settled for 5th, Marcel Kittel also got a top 10 - with 9th.
The team took 3rd in the stage rankings and Mikha is now 9th overall - but is set to lose time in the hilly stage 4.
Stage 4
A tough hilly stage, IGnatieve was again the top finisher, outside the top 50 and over ten minutes down.
Stage 5
A break of 8 went away including Schleck and Blythe. Blythe helped relay, while Schleck did not. Later on it became clear that the break would make it but Blythe began to struggle and fell off along with a Panaria rider. Schleck though just about managed to hang on although a red moment when the sprint began meant he could do no better than 6th.
In the Overall Classification Mikha did best with 54th, just under 15 minutes down.
We now have ranking points!!! Mikha has 4pts and Schleck 2pts and we are now ranked the 67th best team in the continental rankings (Out of 68).

Stae 1 - Prologue
MIKHA WINS!!! Eurosport.com
Russian Mikhail Ignatiev raised eyebrows today in Luxembourg as he took a phenomal victory in the opening prologue for the Skoda Tour de Luxembourg.
The Russian took 5th in a recent Time Trial at the Tour of Belgium and the former World U23 TT Champion continued his form in a lower-quality field, providing his Eurosport.com team their first ever victory!
Mikha had the tough job of starting the race and he set a strong time of 6'10, but had no idea how well he would do. Pre-stage favourite Brian Vandborg was soon on his way.
It looked like a blistering time but as the finish neared the seconds ticked by. 6'05, 6'06, 6'07, 6'08, Lunges to the line and .... 6'10. The same time as Mikha, but no! Mikha has the lead by a split second.
With the biggest threat gone Mikha still had to watch the rest and Vincenzo Nibali came within 2 seconds but it was not enough to prevent a superb victory.
Tomorrow is a new day and the Eurosport.com team will relish having the Yellow jersey. Will Mikha retain it? It'll be tough and inexperience may go against him.

Thanks
Stage 2
Mikha would mak the most of his day in yellow as there's a fair chance it will be his only day.
AN 8-man break went away including 3 Eurosport riders! Petric, Kulovits + Rinkus. Their aim? Take the KoM jersey!
It was so far so good at 44km as we took a 1-2-3: Petric, Kulovits, Rinkus. The road to the next climb was harder as the immature Aussie,Scot Davis tried to attack many times. It all settled down, but then the peleton began to chase hard.
With 500m to go to the top the whole of the break attacked in order to get the points. Bonnaire did enough for first and Rinkus slowed to 3rd to allow Petric 2nd. As soon as they crossed the top they were caught and Petric's jersey was guaranteed. ANother break went away and got a gap including Brian Vandborg. Vandborg took 2 bonus seconds in the sprint so would take yellow it seemed. The peleton began to wittle down before catching the break and 40 riders crossed the line in the group. Breschel won having stormed past Schreck in the last kilometre.
Where was Mikha? 41st |

Indeed.
Stage 3
Petric and Kulovits made their way into the break of 5 but were dropped too soon This left 3 guys to fight it out for 6,4,2 pts 3 times. Luckily though they shared it out evenly and took 12pts each, so Petric is still just 2 pts down.
As the sprint began Ignatiev was the only rider left in the peleton, altyhough you can see Schleck + Minkenen in the distance.
Could Breschel hold on? Or would Nibali power through?
Its Breschel! Vandborg may regret also celebrating as Breschel now has the overall lead. |

Stage 4
Minkene worked hard but made it into the early break, Petric was poor so I told him to give up his attack.
With 30km to go the Peleton were climbing the penultimate hill, with Nicki Sorenson a minute up. Mikha + Minkenen were the only Eurosport riders and Minken did well to get Mikha back in the peleton after the previous hill
At 10km to go:
There was now 2 groups of 25, with Mikha in the latter and Minkenen along way back.
Coming into the sprint Breschel was badly positioned who would win?
Its Schreck, who JUST holds off Fofonov. Mikha came in 50th, and drops to 45th overall.
The battle for first overall is now very tight: Schreck and Breschel have nothing to seperate them
Stage 5
We join the action with 3km to go.
Sorenson has a very slight gap over 21 others in E1. The top 3 Schreck, Breschel and Nibali are there but in a bad position.
A turn at 2.5km catches out Breschel and his hopes are surely gone.
Fofonov is surely the favourite to win as he is closing in on Sorenson's wheel.
Sorenson just isnt sprinting, Fofonov moves through will he be stopped? Bernucci is 3rd at the moment.
The gaps are appearing the front 3 as Blaudzun leads the charge for 4, Schreck is struggling now as Breschel is recovering. (Breschels in White, Schreck Yellow)
Fofonov Wins!
and he takes the overall as well!

For 10 days of this month a few more riders trained in their TT skills, and Marcel Kittel leads the team in preparation for the Stage 2 TT. Danilo Wyss has 74/80 fitness and will aim at Stage 1 and 5, while Geraint Thomas is the best hope for Stages 3 and 4.

The field contained 7 ProTour teams so I knew this would be a tougher few days than I had expected.

Stage 3
A very hilly stage where at one point all but one of the teams had a man up front, the odd one out being Quick Step. The riders up front were spread amonst many different groups.
As there was only Quick Step to chase it was no surprise that a survivor from the break won.
Geert Omloop.
