My Tour de France 2013: Andy Schleck | End of the Line
Ian Butler
Thanks for all the positive comments! It feels nice to do this little story about Andy. I hope it'll be an exciting 21 stages and let's hope for the best!

By the way, I have edited his stats from the official database, how good/bad, that's for you to find out. The main question of the story is: will he find his usual form or not? Smile

Next stage probably tomorrow!

Stage 2 :: Bastia - Ajaccio

Still on Corsica, we go from South to North today. I wouldn't expect the favorites to start with the battle for yellow today, but we should be on our guard anyway.

The Race

The entire peloton was ready for day 2! Phinney was in yellow and BMC was ready to defend it.

Jens Voigt started the day with an attack!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf203_zpsf3eb3e7a.jpg

It turned into a four man break: Wegmann, Pietropolli, Barguil and our very own Jens Voigt.

BMC set a steady pace. All four already lost 20 minutes yesterday, so were no threat to the yellow jersey.

I kept near the front, these stages can be dangerous. I mostly stayed in the area of Froome, the absolute favorite for this Tour.

When it was clear the breakaway would battle for the win, Voigt attempted to go solo, since his sprint isn't all that.

His all-out attempt failed, unfortunately. He was having an off-day, I'd say.

Wegmann and Pietropolli were clearly having a better day and broke away from the rest of the group.

Meanwhile, Saxo - Tinkoff took control of the pack. I was happy there were no late attacks. The war wouldn't be starting today.

But you should always be careful. One favorite loses more than 2 minutes in a crash: Valverde. Many sprinters were involved, too.

Pietropolli was the strongest of the break and took the win.

Today's abandons: Taaramae, Thomas, Matthews and Vigano. All caught up in the fall.

Who would've thought that? Two days, two breakaway wins. Let's see if they keep that up.

I'm happy I'm already at the front. Some have lost much time already, Valverde, Van Den Broeck... It may be a cliché, but if you can get through that first week without time losses, you're a big step closer to Paris.

See you tomorrow!
Andy

Another breakaway. Frown

Ian Butler
Miguel98 - Yeah, it's probably a bug. But luckily I didn't bring a sprinter. All the breakaways in the world can make it, things will still go down between Contador, Froome, Rodriguez... Andy will have his fight for yellow, breakaways or not Wink

Smowz
Hi Ian following this, it is giving me an idea of whether to buy the game before the Tour or afterwards.

At the moments it seems as if Career is broken, so the only thing it is good for is playing stage races (I like sometimes just giving myself a Tour challenge).

Stage one breakaway is pretty stupid, stage two breakaway with guys who are not going to take GC is also not the biggest surprise.

The lack of time bonuses does make it interesting to see in real life who actually will be in the lead coming out of Corsica into the TTT in this and in real life!

You going to race the TTT?

Thanks for following Wink

Well, Team Time Trials aren't really top class in PCM, so I best quick simulate it.

A nice steady start from Andy Wink

Ian Butler
Thanks Wink if we can get into the mountains with only a small cutback, we have a fighting chance!

Stage 3 :: Ajaccio - Calvi

Profile

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf301_zps93851638.jpg

Since tomorrow's the Team Time Trial, I wouldn't expect favorites to attack.

The Race

So, what did happen today? First of all, we took the reigns of the peloton, to keep the breakaway at a short distance.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf302_zps18cdc046.jpg

Hesjedal hit the tarmac pretty badly, but was able to continue.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf303_zpsd089f34a.jpg

The breakaway was caught with 30 kilometers left to go. And then, Valverde attacked. Clearly looking to regain the time he lost yesterday!

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf304_zpsd47c600f.jpg

We didn't want him to get much space. Kiserlovski and Monfort worked incredibly hard, I stayed in 3rd position.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf305_zps35a7cc81.jpg

But this man was gone, what a strong rider!

Big loser(s) of the day: Team Blanco. Surrounding leader Gesink they come in way past due!

The results are not on the internet yet, so I can't give them to you. Doesn't matter too much anyway, a fairly big peloton followed Valverde, who regained 27 seconds.

Tomorrow is way more important, the Team Time Trial!

See you there,
Andy

Let's hope Andy can keep up in the TTT. Smile Good luck!

Miguel98
Gesink lost time? Surprise surprise. PCM really loves Gesink. Always too realistic if it comes to Gesink.

Ian Butler
TTT will be a major challenge for Andy indeed Wink thanks!

I will upload the report shortly, then I'll watch the National Championships and maybe another stage later tonight. (to be honest, I want to get to that first mountain stage quickly, since there are 3 flat stages now Pfft)

Stage 4 :: Nice - Nice

Profile

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf401_zpsbf9c617b.jpg

The Team Time Trial. A first real test of my strength. The rest of the team has all lost time already so it's obvious I'm now definitely the leader of the Tour for Radioshack. But that also means I have to cross the finish line within the first 5 ones today.

The Race

It went a bit as expected. I hung on quite well until we turned around back to Nice. The wind was blowing head on, and I had troubles keeping in touch. I had to hang on, though, I couldn't lose time. The team "waited" for me.

i1300.photobucket.com/albums/ag96/JeanRemy1/tdf402_zps3fd34e1b.jpg

The World Champions in this discipline prove their skill once again. In the end, we lose about a minute to them, which is fairly good, actually. If I find my climbing legs I had in 2010, I can get that back in the mountains!

This is neither positive nor negative. I already felt better in the Tour of Suisse, and the start of the Tour was pretty good. Today really wasn't my thing, so it's still a big question mark how it'll go in the mountains.

Three flat-ish stages now, and I guess we'll find out on Ax-3 Domaines!

Couple of big guys are in front of me now, though: Contador, Froome, Evans, Hesjedal, Van Garderen, Evans, Quintana, Rodriguez, Pinot...

See you tomorrow,
Andy

@Andy, nothing is lost yet, it's going pretty well so far, good luck in the mountains!
