Volta ao Algarve - part 1

Our object on this race is to get Top 3, however there are many World Tour teams on this race, so we will focus on getting a stage win. It starts with 3 hilly stages (1 with summit finish), then there is a flat stage and individual time trial, which is the reason, why we can't get Top 3. We just don't have good time trialists, while the WT teams have.

Stage 1

Getting to the breakaway was really hard. There were so many attacks during the whole stage, that even holding in the front of the peleton was really hard for them. Many riders attacked untill 5kms to go, when finally Movistar and Euskaltel chased everyone. The finish was very chaotic too and you could get stuck very easily. However, Sérgio Ribeiro did a great job finishing in Top 10. The winner was Francisco José Ventoso from Movistar and he also became the first leader.

Stage 2

It was a very hard stage too. Many hills on the profile, but the finish was on a flat. Again, many riders tried to attack with less than 20kms to go. Movistar worked hard and chased everyone with 5kms to go, when Rui Sousa and Nuno Ribeiro pulled Sérgio Ribeiro to the front. They could create a gap of 20 seconds in front of the peleton and Movistar riders looked a bit suprised and no one else didn't want to chase them. Sérgio Ribeiro was alone with 1.5km to go, but it was enough for him to before the main group and take the first win for Efapel-Glassdrive in this season! From the peleton the fastest was Aitor Galdos.

Stage 3

The hardest stage of the race. We hoped to finish high on this stage, but there were to many great riders. On the final climb the pace was really high and we should be happy, that three of our riders finished in the first group. The strongest today was Rui Costa, taking a second win for Movistar in this race.

Ian Butler and maxime86: Thanks, but the time trial is too long to stay on the third, especially if there are riders like Martin.

Sergio has been putting in some good performances and deserves his 3rd place on the GC Wink

Tour du Haut Var

A short 2-day race in France with hills all the time. Our objective was to finish in Top 10 here.

Stage 1

Very good stage for us. Ricardo Vilela was in today's breakaway, he finished 2nd on all of three mountain sprints, but it gave him the king of the mountains jersey. David Blanco felt very good today and tried to attack in the end of the stage, however he couldn't catch Grivko in front, because Lampre put the very fast pace in the peleton after his attack. But Grivko, who attacked with 15kms to go, was so strong, so he could easily win the stage.

Stage 2

The second stage was harder then the first one and we were quite disappointed because of our results. David Blanco had problems with holding the front of the group, because other riders were already pretty exhausted. He lost 3 minutes to the winner Johan Mombaerts. However on a plus side, Vilela was in a breakaway again and secured his lead in KoM ranking.

Volta ao Algarve - part 2

Stage 4

Quite flat and rather boring stage with mass sprint finish. Sérgio Ribeiro decided to keep some energy before the time trial and didn't fight with much better sprinters. The winner was Tom Boonen, he didn't give a chance for anyone.

The final stage and the most difficult for our riders. As we expected, 25kms was too much to keep the place even in Top 10. Our best rider became Nuno Ribeiro and finished the whole race in 24th position. Tony Martin destroyed everyone and won both stage and the whole race!

Stage 5

It still counts as a flat stage, but with many hills close to the finish line it was sure, that it won't be easy for the sprinters. The breakaway of four riders was chased before the last, small hill. Ricardo Vilela did a great job for David Blanco and helped him to attack from the peleton and was with him to the top of the finish. Four riders joined them: Eros Capecchi, Kristjan Koren (Liquigas), John Gadret (AG2R) and Johann Tschopp (BMC). They gained over a minute. The first one to start a sprint was Capecchi, but Blanco could follow him easily and then attack on final meters and win the stage! We have our first leader jersey this season! The peleton lost 1'06'' and the best in the sprint was Daniel Oss (Liquigas).

Tour de Langkawi - part 2

Stage 6

The hardest stage in the race with very hard climb in the end, which starts more than 20 kms before the finish line and last kilometer is over 15%! David Blanco did his best to hold on at the final climb, but there were much better climbers, especially from Pro Tour teams. He finished 12th and fall to 6th place in GC, which is only one lower than our objective.

Stage 7

It was also very hard stage with many hills through the whole stage. David wanted to attack the 5th position, but he had problems to keep the pace of the best riders, so keeping his 6th position in GC is also a good result for us. The stage was won by the breakaway and the fastest was Roy Curvers (Argos).
