@Ian: Yeah, Franks doing pretty well considering his form! In our team's defence: they suck at timetrialling . Except for Frank, but he's in a bad shape.

Tour de San Luis: Stage 5

This is the first mountain stage and that is definitely in our advantage. Dombrowski has a very good day today (+5 daily form), so he and Frank will go for the stage.
The stage started like any other. With a breakaway:
M. Andersen (GLU)
G. Boivin (CAN)
G. Bernaudeau (EUC)
S. Puccio(SKY)
C. Quintero (COL)
J. Debusschere (LTB)
S. Colbrelli (BAR)
The peloton let them ride and their advantage grew quickly. The stage was kind of boring until we reached the last climb.
The leaders still had about 2 minutes advantage, and seemed to have some energy left in the tank! In the peloton all hell broke loose.
Attacks came from anywhere. We tried to stay calm and just ride at our own pace. Olivier, Frank and Dombrowski did very well so far.
Yet, we decided to attack. Nobody was able to create a gap so far, because of all the counter attacks. But when Frank attacked nobody had an immediate answer. Only J. Rodrigues was able to follow him. They quickly got to the leaders, but 3 riders escaped out of the breakaway.
Andersen, Bernaudeau and Quintero got a gap! When Dombrowski attacks aswell, he joins Frank. Frank rides his ass off for him, but they are sprinting for the 4th place. We attacked too late…
Bernaudeau, the born attacker from Europcar gets the win today! He did a very good job today! Andersen takes the 2nd place, and Quintero takes the 3rd place today!
Our riders did their best, and a 4th and 5th place is not too bad. The peloton with Olivier and Keizer in it finishes 1 minute later.

This is the second and last mountain stage in this Tour de San Luis. We are once again aiming for a stage win. Since the GC is out of the way we are in the attack mode. That’s also why Daan Olivier joined the breakaway today. His companions are:
A.Moinard (BMC)
I. Stannard (SKY)
S. Modolo (BAR)
M. Belkov (KAT)
W. Wauters (VCD)
J. van de Walle (LTB)
Well... the flat part of the race was really fast paced. Still, the front group saved some energy and now has a solid advantage; they are going strong on the last mountain of the day.
When Stannard attacks Olivier is immediately in his wheel.
As you can see the differences aren’t really big with 2 kilometres to go.
Nevertheless, Olivier has placed himself in the front of the group. They are sprinting for the win today! Raceleader Nordhaug is not far away but has no chance of winning here today. Olivier has the advantage for a the majority of the last km.
But out of nothing Willem Wauters comes along. Is this the new born half-brother of Willy Wouters??
It is going to be a dragrace!
Unfortunately Olivier last by the thickness of a wheel… Just so close for his first win… He loses by the narrowest of margins today.
He really deserved it but was really unlucky today. We are still very proud of him!
Maxim Belkov finishes in 3rd place and our other riders finish in the neighborhood of the other good climbers.

Glad to see you back on pcmdaily! Too bad you've stopped your first VVV-Venlo story. I really liked that one. Not sure or I'll follow this story, but I will definately come to look here sometimes. Although you've already started your story, good luck!

A stage like every other, except for the fact that the peloton didn’t want to get back the breakaway. We were in the BOTD with Olivier and with 35kms to go Dombrowski tried to make the jump aswell. But when Dombrowski was almost there, they started riding extremely fast.
Olivier had to drop out and we were with no riders in the front again…

We tried to sprint with Markus and van Poppel, but we underestimated the terrain today, it was hilly and very tough. The sprint for the win was with the breakaway though:
It was so close!! The jury had to check the photos for 5 minutes before making a decision!
In the end it was Delle Stelle who won! Great performance by the 23 year old rider. All of his attacks finally paid off!

Overall evaluation:
We are pretty satisfied, with a win and two 2nd place and a lot of top 10 places and the points jersey, but we feel we can do a lot better still. It's not good enough yet! |

Our goals this race:
We are just here to build up some form for our northern classic riders. So we are aiming for some top 10s in the stages. Also because a lot of good sprinters like Greipel are here. Seeing our form is low we don’t expect too much.
Stagereport:
The 1st stage criterium is just 110km long and that’s why there are so many attacks, riders think they can make it today. The pace is extremely high at the first part of the race, as everyone wanted to attack. Finally a group got away:
- D. Fernández (OFM)
- D. Muravyev (AST)
- A. Sáez de Arregi (EUS)
- M. De Maar (UHC)
- A. Bagües (EUK)
But the peloton does not want to let the attackers win. It will be a sprint today! Oss and Moser are having trouble staying in the front of the peloton. (we were wanting to try and let Moser attack) So when I saw Trentin was miraculously keeping up at the front of the race, we had to switch to plan B: let Trentin sprint!
I told him just to follow another sprinter, and see how far he’ll come.
The outcome was very surprising for us! We definitely expected nothing today, but Trentin takes the 3rd place today!
Michel Kreder surprisingly takes the first stage today! Second place goes to Frapporti!
We are very satisfied with our result, we definitely did not expect this! Some very surprising results this first day!
Notable aswell, is the fact that Bradley Wiggins lost over 7 minutes today, due to the very tough pace! Still he should’ve kept up. Guess he’s building form.

Tour of Qatar: Stage 1:
Stagereport and goals: The goal is just to build form here, we don’t have any illusions, the competition is really tough here we hope that by the end of the race we’ll reach a top 5 stage result.
I won’t be making reports about this tour; it’s a bit boring and just building up form, so I’ll give the results. Here’s the top 10. I forgot to export the results.
It’s a bad day for us, and Guardini is our best man finishing in 26th place…

As you can see, the form of our sprinters is still awful, but Trentin has the best form so we’ll be riding for him. Right from the start there were a lot of attacks, but the peloton kept pulling most of them back. Until after about 65kms finally 4 riders got away. Among them our teammate Damien Gaudin.

But these guys were caught 10kms away from the finish. It will be a sprint!
We tried our best making a train, but some asshole from the LTB team blocked our train so we had to waste a lot of energy to get back, that’s why we couldn’t compete for a top 5 again. Greipel takes the stage today, and Trentin takes the 9th place. A bit disappointing, but we will come back and strike hard in the hilly stages!
