Stage 6
A very short , flat stage , that will probably end up with a bunch sprint . Still with 32 points on the table in KOM Rankings and 20 points in the Points Rankings we must be very careful to defend Fenn's and Meersman's Jerseys .
Note : Maes felt really bad after the yesterday stage and decided to abandon . Lets hope he can get healthy soon as we need him in the upcoming races .
So the first thing we decided was to send Gianni in the BOTD . And it was a very inspired choice , because Kaisen and Rasch were there and they were a threat for Meersman .
At the first intermediate sprint Meersman was caught off-guard and he only came 3rd and his 2 opponents were really close to him now in the KOM Rankings .
But Meersman was determined to keep this Jersey and with an incredible uphill sprint he took 1st place . Good job Gianni ! You won the first Jersey of the season for us !
Now lets focus on Fenn . As Meersman was caught , Fenn took Renshaw's wheel as Blanco seemed to be the strongest team
in sprints .
Fenn did a really good job and he kept Renshaw's wheel . Graeme Brown was setting the pace with 2.5 kms to go , while Ventoso and Richeze had their own sprint trains too .
With almost 1 kilometer to go Fenn was really well positioned right behind Renshaw who launched his sprint . This can be a very good result for Fenn , who ( keep in mind ) , has only a 4-pont lead over Renshaw in Points Rankings .
But Renshaw did not have the legs and Fenn passed him with ease ! Meanwhile Ventoso had an amzing sprint and seemed to win his second stage in STDU . With 100 meters to go Fenn was 4th . Can he get a podium place ???
YES !!!! And Fenn finished second . An amazing result for the young british sprinter .

Thanks Ian . At the start we expected that our leader Sybar to get a top 10 but he lost some time in first stages , so we decided to focus on winning KOM with Meersman rather than a top 15 which was kinda possible at that time .
Thanks Sutty , indeed a nice performance
In this evening I will post the report from GP Marseillaise and the conclusions after the first month of racing in 2013 .

Ok , we are back ! And ready for the first race of the season in Europe - Grand Prix La Marseillaise . We sent there the same riders from STDU , except for Maes who was replace by Rabon .
As you see we have a pretty strong line-up , with Meersman as our leader and Andrew Fenn in case the race will end up in a sprint . As you see our riders are in pretty good shape keeping in mind that we are in January so we expect a nice result .
Race
As expected and early break-away was formed and it contained 4 riders : Ubeto (Lampre) , Hurel ( Europcar) ,
Nys ( Crelan) and Frattini ( UnitedHelthcare ) . They had a maximum lead of 6' over the peloton .
With 40 kilometers to go Omega Pharma QuickStep was in control , reeling in the break-away ( great job by Rabon and Verona ) . Still , Simon ( Saur ) , Soupe and Roy ( FDJ) , Pedersen ( Christina Watches ) and Brutt ( Katusha ) tried to attack .
They got caught but on the downhill portion 4 riders attacked and formed the chasing group : again Simon , Pedersen and Soupe , joined this time by Geschke (Argos )
The 4 riders caught the 4 men from the early break-away , but with 15 kilometers to go their lead was less than 30" . Then Visconti tried to avoid the bunch sprint and attacked .
Visconti got caught and with 8 kilometers to go Omega-Pharma-QuickStep was again in front , with Pineau , Stybar and Meersman in fron of Fenn .
2.5 kilometers to go and Meersman and Fenn are feeling great . We really have a chance to win this race . Meanwhile , Lastras ,Quintana and Gutierez tried to surpise us with a very early sprint .
With almost 1 kilometer to go Meersman was doing perfectly his job as a lead-out man . Fenn was in complete control .
And here it is !!!!! First win of the season ! Congratulations Andrew Fenn . Well donw to his rest of his team-mates who led him out in perfect conditions .
