Side Note: A game crash nearly cost me my dynasty. So...I will not have screenies for the last stage of the Australian Tour. I have perused the forums and think I know what to do to prevent this.
Also...although I have played this game pretty much non-stop since I got it. I am still unfamiliar with alot of the games features and how to tweek them to maximize my story telling. I have learned some new things that should help make my race recaps slicker and easier to read.
I am also becoming more familiar with Paint as well.
Bottomline...I am still toying around with a format that will make this thread easier to read and follow...but think I am pretty close to a workable format.

Tour of Australia (Stage 6): Guidi Wins the Battle, Fedrigo the War
It was a pretty uneventful day for most teams, during this flat 98 km circuit race Tour finale. It was also another day for the sprinters to shine. Barloworld's Fabrizio Guidi won the mass sprint just ahead of Milram's Elia Rigotto. Yellow jersey wearer Romain Feillu continued his fantastic start to the season with another podium visit. The day was bittersweet for Discovery. While sealing up their victory in the Team competition, Allan Davis lost what seemed to be a sure spot in the Top 3 Overall GC. He was involved in a crash about 8 kilometers from the finish. By the time he had gathered himself and his bike together, it was too late to finish with the main group. Instead he finished 2:15 back. Slovenian Uros Murn, backed by his strong ride yesterday, finished 4th overall in General Classification.

Davis's crash was an immense disappointment, as I was really hoping to be on the podium. However...a stage win, a 2nd place, 2 riders in the Top 10 GC, and the overall team title makes this a pretty successful start to the season. The Tour of Qatar is next, and the team will take advantage of Davis's increased fitness and sprinting ability to try and bring home a victory for the sponsors. I will announce the team shortly. |

Tour of Qatar Preview
We will not be sending our strongest squad to the Middle East. Allan Davis will return as team leader, and then take some time off racing to begin training for the Northern Classics. I normally wouldn't race a guy of Davis's caliber in back to back tours so early in the season, but this is a sprinter's race....there is not a hill in Qatar. We think he has a chance to win the overall General Classification. Jason McCartney will race again, after a solid effort in the Tour of Australia. 10 of our rider's are on their way to France for some cobble training, leaving a smattering of young riders and time trialists to fill out the team. Yaroslav Popovich makes his season debut, but is still not quite in shape, so we don't expect too much from him this tour. (The opening stage is a quick 14 km. TTT)

Tour of Qatar (Stage 1): Disaster For Discovery, Saunier Duval Takes Team Time Trial!
A horrific effort by Team Discovery has their hopes for a tour win in serious doubt, after finishing dead last in todays Team time trial. Spanish team Saunier Duval was quickest today, followed by the French squad Skil 2 seconds back, and Italian sponsored Liquigas 6 seconds off the pace. Discovery finished a whopping 39 seconds off the pace, 17 seconds behind 12th place T-Mobile. With nothing but flat roads and mass sprints ahead, Discovery may have dug themselves into a trench here in Qatar. I'm too depressed to even post the Standings.
Sidenote: I just cannot do TTT, I know I am not the only one, I guess I can only get better...but geez! |

Tour of Qatar (Stage 2)
Team Discovery bounced back from a disappointing 1st stage, and Predictor-Lotto's Robbie McEwen put his stamp on the race in todays racing action. What turned out to be a 6 man breakaway, had a 7 minute lead near the halfway point, before the real racing started. Discovery Channel's Fuyu Li, Brian Vandborg, and Pavel Padrnos were all key in pacing the peleton today. Allan Davis was in good position for a win, but McEwen was just a little bit stronger today. Still nice to see Davis on the podium, after yesterday's disaster.[/I]

I am not going to write off this tour, because a stage win (and its 20 second time bonus), could put us back in the thick of things. We'll try our best to get one tomorrow. |

Tour of Qatar (Stage 3): Brilliant Attack By Davis Earns Victory & Golden Jersey!
Discovery Channel's Allan Davis, after finishing 2nd yesterday, launched a solo attack from 44 km. out, and held on to win Stage 3 by nearly 2 minutes. It was an active day for Discovery, as 3 different riders were involved in breakaways. (Davis, Brian Vandborg and Fuyu Li) The mass sprint for 2nd was won by pre-race favorite Oscar Freire. With the victory, Davis now leads the GC by 1:56 over Milram's Alessandro Pettachi.

The peleton awaits the start of stage 3.
The pack settles in, as the race leaves Al Wakra.
The first attack of the day comes courtesy of Saunier Duval's Raivis Belohvosciks with 167 km. to go.
Discovery's Brian Vandborg would join the escape, which totaled 5 riders.
118 km. from the finish, the breakaway's margin had grown to 4:29.
After the first sprint, Vandborg decides to go it alone, still 100 km. to go, but he has over a 6 minute advantage.
Predictor Lotto says enough is enough and begins to reel in the escapees, all but Vandborg would be caught 30 km. later.
What are all those Discovery riders doing up front? Is something amiss?
After the second sprint...Davis decides to keep on pedaling, followed closely behind by teammate Li.
With 35.5 km. to go, Davis passes teammate Vandborg with a 2 minute lead on the peleton.
With 15 km until the finish, all is well for Davis, his advantage has grown to 2:30. A timely attack indeed.
Manuel Quinziato of Luiqigas leads the pack in search of Allan Davis.
Freiere is the bridesmaid today by a bike length over Petacchi.
After a horrific start, this tour has taken an unexpected turn. We had nothing to lose today, and we rode an aggressive race. It paid huge dividends, and now all we have to do is keep the pack together for the next 2 stages, and Davis will be on the top podium. After his crash in Australia kept him from a Top 3 finish though, I'm not counting out anything. |

I just got done reading your CSC story last night...all I can say is WOW!!! If my story is 1/3 as good as yours I'll be happy.
I am as suprised as you are by Davis's win. I am playing on hard too. I guess you get lucky sometimes...he is by far the fittest rider in the race though...and he had a +5 yesterday...that always helps. |

The mood of the team couldn't be better right now. With Davis's brilliant solo victory yesterday in Qatar, and the training camp in France proving to be productive, its all smiles right now for Team Discovery. The squad in Qatar will look to protect the golden jersey today, while the riders in France will get one more workout in before boarding the plane home to there respective training grounds.
I am still mulling around my options for who is racing where in February. I can tell you that Alberto Cantador and his 2 new Spanish side kicks David Latasa and David Blanco will not be racing next month. They will continue to focus on preperation for the Grand Tours. George Hincappie wants to ride in the California Road, to get some racing in before the Classics start, and I will oblige. Future stars Vladimir Gusev and Janez Brajkovic will make their season debuts, and if I can find the right race...Levi Leipheimer as well. (probably California Road) Stjin Devolder and Tomas Vaitkus will also begin to get their racing legs in February, and I have a gut feeling that these two are going to ride some big races this year for us.
Here is what the schedule looks like for February.
GP de Marseille (France)---Feb. 6
Vuelta ciclista a Mallorca (Spain) Feb 11-15
California Road (USA) Feb 18-25
Volta a regiao do Algarve (Portugal) Feb 21-25 |

Sidenote: I am still not completely happy with the format yet, but am getting close. I am still learning how to use alot of the programs necessary to do these kinds of stories..so bear with me. I will be changing the order of my reports for sure though. I'll be doing screenshots first, followed by stage results and recap. It's just more exciting than already knowing who won by the time you get to the screens. Besides its a tried and true method used by other successful story writers here. So...I must give credit to Guido Mukk and A Schlek, as there stories have been a big inspiration. |

Stage 4---Al Zubarah-Doha
Our mission today is to keep the leader's jersey on Allan Davis's back....at all costs.
The action starts early, as 14 km. in Sauiner Duval's Luciano Pagliarini attacks.
Pagliarini is soon joined by Nicolas Crosbie of Bouygues and Peter Wrolich of Gersolsteiner.
Its all about protection today for Discovery, I'm sure they have a keen eye on this breakaway.
The breakaway group is now six. Kenny Robert Van Hummel of Skil, Rene Mandri of AGR2 and Brit Roger Hammond of T-Mobile have come to join the fun.
The breakaway is 118 Km. from the finish and they have a six minute lead.
At the second sprint, it is Pagliarini and Wrolich again 1-2.
Predictor-Lotto and Rabobank begin to lead the charge.
What's this? 18 km. from the finish, Popovych tries to sneak the golden jersey away.
As the peleton heads into high gear 7 km. out, Marco Velo of Milram and Martin Tjallingii of Skil crash. Li was able to avoid the wreckage...Padrnos was not.
4.5 km. out, Davis and Popovych have a slim 16 second advantage.
After swallowing up Popovych, the sprinter's head for Davis....0.7 km to go.
But this is Davis's tour, as he has his 2nd straight dominating victory. Its Feire and Pitacchi again as well. Two straight stages with the exact same podium. This is a strange tour.

Wow! Am I stoked! I knew Davis was the fittest of all the favorites, but his performance way exceeds my expectations. I will have to rest him awhile as I want to keep him fresh for a shot at the Green jersey in the Tour de France against fellow Aussies Stuart McGrady and Robbie McEwen. Just get to the finish tomorrow safely, and a nice victory will be Discovery's. |

Hahaha you can always get away with a rider in the Tour of Qata if you make him break away at 15km to go and put him on 99 effort with the single dot thing. He almost always makes it if he is a decent rider. |

Obviously I am very pleased with today's result and the entire Tour of Qatar. I thought this race was over before it started after that horrendous Team Time Trial. Allan Davis will get some well deserved time off before racing again. The GP de Marseilles is the next race on the schedule, commencing on Feb. 6. |

Hahaha you can always get away with a rider in the Tour of Qata if you make him break away at 15km to go and put him on 99 effort with the single dot thing. He almost always makes it if he is a decent rider.
LOL...yeah the Tour of Qatar has always been one of the easier races for my abilities. Just wait until we get some races with some major hills...you'll get a chance to watch me muck up some races tactically. |
