The flags represent first team nationality and secondly nationality of the captain

Me too for a second.
I discovered the logic behind it though, it seems that the second flag is the nationality of the team leader Wink

Edit: Zabel'd, but didn't read what Luigi said either Frown

Spoiler
The game wouldn’t allow me to enter as many teams/riders as I wanted so Cofidis ended up as my control team instead. This because Cofidis was the weakest team in the competition and I couldn't risk what might happen if all my riders abandoned before the end of the race (could happen if I only had two riders...)

Stage 1: Herning – Herning (ITT)
www.cyclingfans.net/2012/images/2012_giro_d_italia_stage1_profile.jpg
Real Life: Stage won by Taylor Phinney ahead of Geraint Thomas and Alex Rasmussen.

i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-12_zpse36622a9.jpg
Lots of fast times early on with Van Garderen setting the fastest ahead of Westra, Zabriskie and Velits.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-14_zps3b493bfe.jpg
Thomas lives up to the expectations by setting new best time.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-15_zpsccbd2aa5.jpg
Phinney really likes riding in Herning and beats Thomas’ time by 4 seconds.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-16_zpsc954952d.jpg
Cancellara is too strong for Phinney though and cuts an additional 6 seconds of the best time.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-17_zps3b28a0e9.jpg
Tony Martin didn’t become World Champion by coincidence and he completely destroys all competition.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-18_zps61a98c59.jpg
Wiggins looking strong as well, but one second slower than Martin.

In deed. That's why I have been able to make give Wiggins and Froome a decent support team each...

Ian: Zabel'd Wink But thanks. I've been wanting to do it for a while but wanted to wait for a 2013-DB to get some more present stats.

Ollfardh: I think Froome's girlfriend likes it as well Wink

It proves nearly impossible for the break to get going today, but in the end 12 riders get away.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-23_zps9b7c7d3f.jpg
Van Hummel takes the first intermediate sprint.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-24_zpsd778141c.jpg
The race organizers had found one small hill on today's route. Swift takes the points.
80 km to go and 6 minutes to the peloton.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-25_zpsb50b324c.jpg
With 5 km to go the last remains of the break is finally caught, but the attacks keep on coming.

Orica – GreenEdge is the best at organizing a train today.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-27_zps615ef0d1.jpg
1,4 km to go. Greipel have opened his sprint early while Goss and everyone else is enjoying the leadout from Davis.
i1353.photobucket.com/albums/q675/AllanHG/Ultimate%20Grand%20Tour/Giro-28_zps6bbff626.jpg
700 m to go. Petacchi in front with Cavendish, Goss and Demare coming fast from behind.
