The race
Today we start cycling year 2013 with 61 riders, representing 21 teams, down under in Buninyong. The Australian Championships will decide who will wear the green-yellow-white jersey for the rest of the team. The race will start now.
Almost immediately after the start one rider breaks away, Adam Phelan.'He is followed very soon by Bernard Sulzberger, from Drapac. They are joined soon by Nathan Haas. Still behind them are Hill and Calabria. This group doesn't get enough space and Sulzberger and Phelan try again. They get company from Lloyd and Lang. Unfortunately only screens from Phelan and Sulzberger
Now it is clear that this will be the break of the day, we will introduce the riders:
Matthew Lloyd
Matthew rides for Lampre. Coming second last year he hopes he can stunt this year
Bernard Sulzberger
Bernard had to take a step back after Orica-GreenEdge, but hopes to work himself back through Drapac.
Adam Phelan
Adam is a good tour rider. He drove for Drapac last year, but hopes to show off to the major Orica-GreenEdge team through their development.
Richard Lang
Richard rides for the small team Raleigh. He is probably the weakest rider in the group.
In the pack meanwhile, the pace is made by Orica-GreenEdge.
With 100 kms to go, the lead was 4min44.
At about 85kms to go, the lead was maxxed at 5min34.
With 50kms to go, this had decreased to about 3mins.
With 45.5 kms to go, Porte surprisingly attacked. He probably wouldn´t have stood a chance in the sprint.
After Porte had reached the leading group, the attacks started.
For Porte and Lang, the adventure was over. Porte tried again.
As soon as he reached Phelan and Sulzberger, who had been left by Lloyd, their pace dropped and they were reeled in, leaving Lloyd in front alone. GreenEdge is trying to reel him in. This high pace caused Jonathan Clarke to fall.
Porte attacked again, this time being followed by Patrick Lane and Stuart O´Grady. Porte dropped them quickly.
With 15 kms to go, Porte and Lloyd were reeled in.
Next to attack are O´Grady and Hayman. They got reeled in with 7,5kms to go.
With 5kms to go, a mass sprint seemed obvious. Grenda had held on well and he could get a great result here.
With 4kms to go, Lane attacked again. Could he hold on?
In the pack, Haussler launched the sprint.
In the last km, Goss and Sutton had released Haussler's wheel and sprinted.
At the line, Goss had beaten Sutton clearly, making him the new champion.
3rd was Cantwell.
In the end, it turned out we had held our expectation. Grenda unfortunately had a wrong lead-out, making him our best rider at 26th place.

At time check 2, the places haven't changed. The gap between Durbridge and Porte is practically nothing. Will he hold on?
In the end, Howson holds on with a 14th spot, securing a top-25 spot.

Today we have the start of the New Zealand Cycle Classic. This race will be held in and around the city of Palmerston. The races are mostly flat. In stage 1, we have a short prologue. All other races should be decided in a mass sprint.

The race
The first rider to start was Kerby.
The first favorite to leave, quite soon, was a favorite, Zwizanski.
The benchmark, set by Kerby, was 9min5. Zwizanski beat his time by 9 seconds, making him the second leader.
Meanwhile, our leader Howson had started.
We will see what he can do.
A bit later, Van Baarle also set off.
Now, Zirbel also left the start. Howson surprised, by setting the second time, 4 seconds behind Zwizanski. Van Baarle now second, 2 seconds behind Zwizanski.
Zirbel disappointed, setting the 3rd time, 3 seconds behind. Grenda surprised, setting the same time as Zirbel.

One of the last favorites to start is Jacques-Maynes. He disappointed.
Then we got, quite surprisingly, a new leader: McCartney. Unfortunately no screen.
The last favorite to start was Friedman.
He is probably the only one who is capable of holding McCartney away from victory.
He loses 3 seconds however.
It is a surprise, but Baldwin sets a time, just a little faster than McCartney.
Another surprise!
It had turned out there had been a mistake, McCartney was quickest, not Baldwin. Bissell however won't care, since they both ride for this team.
Our best was Donnelly at 7th.

We start and finish in Palmerston North today. Even though there are some climbs on the way, the race should end in a mass sprint. The break might succeed if big enough however.
After many tries we had a breakaway, consisting of the following riders: Felix Donath: a German rider, riding for LKT. He is the highest rider of today's break: 52nd at 12 seconds. Niki Ostergaard: Danish rider for Glud&Marstrand. He is 78th, 14 seconds behind McCartney. Krisztian Lovassy: Hungarian rider of Utensilnord-Named. He is 135th, 20 seconds behind. Volodymir Starchyk: Ukrainian rider, rides for Amore&Vita. He is the lowest rider of this group, 150th, also 20 seconds behind.
Sprint 1 is easy for Lovassy, beating Starchyk and Ostergaard.
Just behind, Oliveira and Walsleben broke away, but seem to have difficulty to reach the leaders, but 2kms before the first KoM, they make it. This one is also for Lovassy, this time beating Donath and Ostergaard.
With an easy time coming up, it's time to present the other riders: Helder Oliveria: Portuguese rider, riding for Onda. He is 73rd, at 14 seconds. Michael Walsleben: German rider of Nutrixxion. Currently 129th in the GC, 20 seconds behind McCartney.
The pack is led by De Rijke, An Post and UK Youth. We only try to keep Groenewegen in front.
The second KoM of today, again Lovassy crushing the rest, led by Starchyk and Ostergaard.
Bissell starts to help in the pack.
A surprise at KoM 3, Starchyk beats Lovassy and Ostergaard.
The lead now maxxes, 5min26 is the lead.
At the final KoM, Oliveira beats Lovassy and Starchyk. The lead is now, with 33kms to go, about 2min30. A mass sprint seems inevitable.
Under the 20km banner, the lead is 1min25.
The break gets reeled in with 7,5 kms to go.
Our train, Donnelly-Kerby-Ewan-Grenda-Groenewegen is the lead train, together with UK Youth. Let's see what comes of it.
At the line, it's Holohan beating Groenewegen and Eeckhout. A good result for our young Dutchman. This classification also means a 2nd place in the GC. Holohan also takes the -25 jersey together with the general lead. The points classing however is still lead by McCartney

Today we have another flat stage, running over a part of yesterday's parcours. Even though it does contain a few hills, we will still have a bunch sprint. A break probably won't prevent that.
After many tries, 40kms and a fall for Freiberg, we finally had a breakaway. The following 4 riders are in: Beukeboom, Putt, Dal Santo and Rodger. Later on a very short introduction. Later on, Miller joined.
At the first of 3 KoMs, its Dal Santo winning, ahead of Putt and Rodger.
Now here we have the introduction: Nicola dal Santo: This Italian rider rides for Ceramica Flaminia. He is 83rd in the GC, 23 seconds behind our leader. Tanner Putt: This American rides for Bontrager Cycling Team. He is 124th in the GC, 27 seconds behind. Shem Rodger: This rider rides for Node4. In the GC, we can currently find him at 66th place, 21 seconds behind. Dion Beukeboom: THis Dutch rider rides for De Rijke-Shanks. We currently find him 57th, 21 seconds behind. Carson Miller: The last rider to join this group. He rides for Jamis and is 154th in the GC, 29 seconds behind.
Meanwhile in the pack, the pace was made by us and Madison. The lead now maxxed out to about 7mins to the pack.
At KoM2, Beukeboom beat Putt and Rodger.
At the last KoM, again Beukeboom. 2nd Putt and 3rd Miller.
At the intersprint, 33kms to the line, Putt beat Dal Santo and Beukeboom. The lead here is just under 3min.
This has decreased to 1min32 with 20kms left.
At 15kms it was 1min06.
At 10kms, the attacks started with a 32sec lead.
With 7kms to go, it was all over.
With the sprint trains in front and a short attempt of Beckeringh, the sprint would follow soon.
And at the line its: Hanson, he just outsprinted Eeckhout and Groenewegen.
Eeckhout took over the GC lead, one second ahead of Groenewegen and Hanson.
The sprint jersey is for Groenewegen. Lovassy holds his KoM. Groenewegen also takes the -25 jersey.

Another flat stage for today, but a very short one. Just like yesterday and two days ago, this stage should end in a mass sprint, since the last hill is more than 30kms away from the finish line.
At the first KoM, the break was still setting up. 5 riders were ahead, Howson lead solo ahead of a 4man group.
This group consisted of the following riders: Prades, Jones, Buchacek and Raim. This was the order from 2-5 at the KoM. After exactly 40kms, Howson was reeled in by the group.
We will now introduce these riders Damien Howson: This Australian rider rides for us, currently being at the 20th place, 18 seconds behind. Eduard Prades: This Spanish rider rides for OFM. He is 85th in the GC, 28 seconds behind Eeckhout Carter Jones: This American rider rides for Bissell. He is 31st in the GC, 21 seconds behind. Tomas Buchacek: A Czech rider. He rides for Bauknecht-Author. He is 58th in the GC, 26 seconds down. Mihkel Raim: The last rider of this group. This Estonian rides for Amore&Vita and is 115th in the GC, 31 seconds behind.
Intersprint 1 was won by Prades, ahead of Raim and Buchacek.
The pack, led by An Post, tried to keep the lead under 3 minutes.
Drama in the back of the pack!
The so far disappointing Brambilla had fallen off his bike. He is almost surely out for a good classification today.
At the final Kom, the group didnt fight for it. Howson however held a high pace and dropped the rest. Prades was 2nd, Buchacek 3rd.
With 25kms left, Howson was the only one left in front, 25 seconds ahead. With 20 kms left, it was all over.
With 3kms left, the trains were clear. We now awaited the sprint.
At the line it was: Groenwegen
After a perfect sprint train and a perfect launch, he crushed his opponents. 2nd and 3rd were Utensilnords Der and Zanotti.
Groenewegen took the GC lead, points jersey and -25 jersey. The mountains still for Lovassy and team Bissell. The lead is 19 seconds, which can only be lost if Eeckhout, Hanson or a break wins. The victory is almost sure.
