Will Brajkovic ride the Giro?
I have no idea. it's a bit sketchy nowadays, but I'm wondering who on the Astana team will lead the Giro squad. Brajkovic is a decent bet. It's not like there are many other candidates (Leipheimer, Contador, Klöden will do the Tour)

well... first, I dont really think brajkovic would be good enough to go for a grand tour podium. maybe I'm wrong but... I just dont think so.
secondly, I dont really think astana will be invited for the tour. I think agritubel will get there ticket instead |

I'd love it if they weren't invited but sadly I don't have much doubt they will

the ASO doesnt have anything to do with the pro tour now, so they can invite who they like. I think, they will invite more french continental teams instead of all pro tour team. then I think astana would be one they wouldn;t invite, because of all the dope cases there. kessler, vino, kasheskin... I know those are gone but still... |

The question posed was concerning any surprises for the Giro. I suggested Brajkovic. I agree with you that he will most likely not get a podium. If he did, it would be a surprise. |

For anyone interested, cyclingnews has uploaded the profiles of the mountain stages.
I've got May 25th circled on my calendar. that stage is insane
Passo Pordoi, Passo di San Pellegrino, Passo Giau and Passo Fedaia all in quick succesion is crazy enough, but there's another climb I've never heard of before in the middle - the Passo Falzarego - and they all come in 150kms.
Throw in the TT up the Kronplatz (the whole of it this time. 24% section included) and a stage with the Gavia and Mortirolo in succession and God help the cyclists

yeah let's add the Stelvio in there
after all, 16.5km at 8% followed by 12.8 km at 10.3% and then another climb sucks. let's add 25km at 8%

Now the organizers have suddenly decided that OTC is out of the race and Astana is in. 1 Week before the race, suddenly a team is uninvited for no reason whatsoever.
Shows what kind of people these RCS guys are: morons who don't keep their word.

So will this be the Giro of the younger riders?
Let's see who we have for the overall, shall we?
- Di Luca with Savoldelli as backup. He probably won't be able to reach last year's level (the confidence given by winning LBL being the main factor)
- 37 year old Simoni with very little backup (José Serpa ) and who said he isn't thinking of anything other than stage wins
- Cunego said two years ago that 2007 would be his last Giro for a long time, instead focusing on winning the Tour from 2008 onwards.
- Schleck will do the Tour
- Piepoli doesn't like the Giro, he only did it to help his friend Simoni. Given the choice he'll do the Vuelta instead (which is his favorite race)
so who do we have?
I feel as though Pelizotti will be much better than usual, but there aren't many more candidates.
Sella? Gárate? Gesink? Sorensen? Arroyo? maybe even Ardila or Rujano?
any thoughts on possible surprises?
I now this is a post from a long time ago But Gesink doesn't ride, and maybe Menchov could do something, he's riding pretty well last weeks(Romandy)
