Welcome to this press conference. Today we will be announcing the 6 remaining World Tour spots for the upcoming season.
I'll start off by outlining the procedure that was used to select the 6 teams.
A three man panel was selected. This panel consisted of TheManxMissile, baggieboys32 and Ian Butler.
Each member looked through the teams applications very carefully. Then they each submitted a list of the teams, in order of best to worst candidates. i should say that worst seems harsh, as all the teams were worthy of a World Tour space.
This list was then put through a series of calculations and algorithms to attribute each team with a single number. The lowest 6 numbers would get the World Tour spots.
It is a simple method, but the process of ranking the teams was not.
So thats how it works. Now we should move on to the results.
Yesterday two of the panel had submitted their lists, and it was instantly obvious it was going to be a very close race.
There were 2 teams who looked set for WT status. A third had a bit of a gap over the rest.
Then we had 6 teams withing a few points of each other. Thats 6 going for 3. Plus another team still in with a shout. Thats 7 teams with a chance at 3 spots.
Unfortunately the remaining 3 teams looked out of the hunt, but were not mathematically finished.
And that third list had a lot of differences...
So it was put into the formula's and the results were awaited.
A few moments later is gave us the first World Tour team.
World Tour Team 11: Pure Black-Genesys Racing Team!!!
Congratulations to Pinktay3 and the New Zealand outfit.
They take the first spot comfortably, with an 8 point gap over second.
Pinktay's team made into the Top3 on each panel members list. A very impressive feat, as no other team made it into more than one members top3.
1 down, 5 to go. And this is where things got interesting.
Two teams came out with the same score. So who got the second spot, and who got the third.. This was decided using the median position on the 3 lists.
World Tour Team 12: Motorex-Credit Suisse Pro Cycling
Congratulations to fcancellara and the Swiss outfit.
The team was 4th on 2 lists, and just edged out the next team
World Tour Team 13: In-n-Out Original Joe's
Congratulations to maxime86 and the American outfit.
They topped one members list, but didn't gain such favor elsewhere
Thats 3 down, 3 to go, and already we had to use a tie-break.
Choices 4 and 5 time
They were only 1 point behind spots 2 and 3! And had the same total score!
So we went back to the median method...
World Tour Team 14: Barry's Maple Leaf Racing
Congratulations to Welwyn and the Irish outfit.
Top3 on one panel members list, but average placings on the others.
World Tour Team 15: Tulip-Guinness
Congratulations to Atlantius and the Norwegian outfit.
Actually topped one of the lists, and 10th on another.
5 teams now attributed WT status. Only 1 space remains.
There are 4 teams fighting for this spot after the last list.
It comes down to 1 single point.
It comes down to 1 single place on a list.
