Last week of December

the last week of December is always a special time for me and my family: Christmas, New Years, The Top 2000 and the birthday of my nephew makes December one of my favorite month of the year.

the days between Christmas and New Year with the execption of the 29th we were all working at the HQ although much work wasn't done with the Top 2000 on the radio Wink

we did recieve our championships jersey and they look great in my opinon. now just need to know how the look in the peleton.

Spoiler

we haven't seen them in there championships jersey because the spend the holidays with their families but we have arranged with them that they would join along with all of us of a special training with everybody on the team and some members of my family: Johan Veenhof from ING and Jeffrey Bakker from SGL - Magix

Heimdal's Corner

So I finally met my new team mates after being back in Denmark celebrating Christmas and New Years. The new Dane on the team Nicki Sørensen even offered me a lift as he was almost passing my parents on the way home anyway. Even though he is getting kind of old (sorry Nicki) he seems to still have a lot of hunger left - probably because he started cycling kind of late (signed his first contract at 22). This might even be his last season, so I'm gonna have to learn as much of possible from him this season...

www.feltet.dk/octo_cms/files/Feltet.dk/Billeder/2011/Hold/SaxoBank_SunGard/TdU2011_5etape_Nicki_Sorensen%28S%29.jpg

I won't expect to do much racing with the teams new German sprinters Danilo Hondo and Robert Wagner as I can already go much faster than them on the mountains but they won't have much use of me on their terrain. I have spoken a little to them and we get along fine.

Another rider for the sprint train is Pim Ligthart. I tried talking to him as well but with him being dutch and all I have to admit I didn't understand a word he's saying. He seems like a nice guy, but I have to admit he does remind me quite a bit of Dutch Sprinter Pim de Keysergracht from the former Danish two-rider team called Team Easy On...
Spoiler

Wonder if they know each other?

first days of january

after the holidays week, I as team manager decided that we should have a quick training session to prepare for the next season. lukely almost everybody arrived in time to join us and with the company of Jeffrey Bakker (SGL-Magix) and Johan Veenhof (ING-InBev) we set out for a small criterium around the HQ.

at first the others wore against it as they thought that training the other teams isn't a good idea but after I explained to them that Jeffrey and Johan were my nephew and son respectivly they just could not say no

all of us together, with me in the German national jersey though I'm not german Wink

while doing on of the final laps I see a car pulling up the drive way, It was Danilo Hondo, our new signing, I completly forgot about the fact that he would come today to meet the rest of us. Embarassed

I sure had a wonderfull time today and I think that everybody esle had.

So this is the team... - Heimdals Corner

Now we finally have a full roster and I must say I like what I see.

I came here to ride in an international environment, but still with the comfort of many Danes. It obviously was a bit of a gamble since I was one of the teams very first signings, but I'm very happy about the managers decisions throughout the draft.

Not only will I get to ride alongside one of the best Danish Climbers at the moment, Chris Anker Sørensen but he have also signed strong experienced riders like L.L.Sanchez and Nicki Sørensen - the Danish Champion. I look very much forward to helping legendary riders like these.

www.dr.dk/NR/rdonlyres/D512E91A-121B-4B5D-85F7-F318A8EBDB17/2904168/c33caeea5fc9476fbd0850a9e34e95a1_20110622112756A10.jpg

When it comes to myself I'll obviously ride the whole season as a domestique. This year is all about learning for me. And to help me in that the manager have signed perhaps the best Danish Climber in history (though he has lost his mojo the last few years) Michael Rasmussen. He should be able to teach me a lot about training and optimizing my equipment. It is my big dream sometime in the future to become the second Dane to win the Mountain Jersey in Tour de France.

hvemerjohngalt.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/michael-rasmussen.jpg

This should be a good environment for young hopeful riders like myself and Jesper Hansen to develop.

You could say that about half the team is focused on climbing and half the team is focused on sprinting, so there's a good few riders I don't expect to spend a lot of time with, but the team should be exiting to follow in TV as well and I certainly will be cheering for Sebastian Lander to make his big break soon.

Henkjan Knol - Reaction on schedule

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/PCMDaily%20custom%20season/Minibanner_HenkjanKnol_zps34c14df2.jpg

Hey guys, Henkjan here. As you can see, my schedule is done and made public.
I've got a lot of sprinter stages, and I'm happy with that. I'll start my season at Malaysia, in Tour de Langkawi. It's a 10 days race, with most of the stages flat. The race lacks uphill sprints, my speciality, a bit. A good thing about the race is that I can also show my climbing abilities.
I'm going to ride 2 WT races. Eneco Tour is my favourite one. It's in my own country, and most of the times flat. The other one is Beijing. I heard that some guys don't like it, but I do. It's a WT race after all, and the profile suits me.
Other interesting races I race are Tour of Britain and Limousin. Tour of Britain is a big race for a 2.1 classification, at least it is in Britain. Limousin is a race with only flat stages and hilly stages, without a prologue. Maybe I can do something there.

If it stays like this, I might want a bit more race days. I've got 47 race days, while 50-55 seems ideal for my development. It's all up to the manager though, I'll let you know what happens Wink

Bye guys,
Henkjan Knol

First race upcoming

Hey guys, it's me, Henkjan. I've got good news. My first race, Langkawi is very close now. Of course, races like Algarve & Qatar are raced earlier, but I want to do a small preview now. I'm really excited, and I'm in a good shape. While I'm typing this, a part of the team is racing in Portugal. A large break survived stage 1, including 4 Dutchies. One of them was Boy van Poppel. One of the 13 escapees will probably win the GC. I fear that Van Poppel isn't going to do that. He won't survive the hills from stage 3.

We have been training a lot. If you want, here are some pictures. I couldn't hold on to the top sprinters, as you can see in the second photo(I'm the third one), but I was close. That's promising, although I admit that part of the sprint was slightly uphill Wink

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/PCMDaily%20custom%20season/PCM0225_zpsc93b201b.png

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/PCMDaily%20custom%20season/PCM0226_zps92e52943.png

I can say that I got to know most of the guys of the team quite good. There are some nice people in the team. Of course, the communication with the Dutchies is the easiest. Tom Dumoulin and Wesley Kreder are the guys where I hang out with the most. We have lots of things in common, and are about the same age. But since I speak a bit German and French, I can understand most of the guys.
Also, Van Rensburg speaks 'Afrikaans'. That's kind of Dutch, but very funny. I had loads of fun with him Wink

I can't tell you the line-up for Langkawi yet, it's still secret. It's clear that I will probably be the leadout, and not the lead sprinter. I might go for my own opportunities on the uphill stages though, although I'm not sure if the manager gives me the chance to do so.

i1326.photobucket.com/albums/u660/jesleyh/PCMDaily%20custom%20season/TourLangkawi_Profiles_zps84e3c83a.png

Tour de Langkawi starts with a 20km TT. With my okay ability to ride time-trials, I don't expect any good result. It will probably be important for the GC.
Stage 2 is a downhill sprint. I will finish somewhere in front I think, but not in a Top 10. It depends on which guys enter this race of course.
Stage 3 is the same. It's more flat than Stage 2, so I can be a good leadout there.
Stage 4 might be more interesting. There is a small hill, near the finish line. The last kms are flat again, but it will be interesting if the pure sprinters can stay at the front at the hill.
Stage 5 will be a good test for my hilly abilities. The stage will end in a mass sprint, but there's 19 km of climbing at this stage. If I can hold on(which I think I can with my hill abilities), I can get a nice result in the bunch sprint.
Stage 6 is a mountainous stage. The GC will be decided here. The first 100km are just flat, but then, the mountain starts. I think I can be a good domestique here, but I'm not sure for who. I'm a good climber, compared to other sprinters, so who knows what I can do here? Obviously not win, but I can hold on to a strong group, I guess.
Stage 7 is a real hilly stage. Guess I can do something, if I can get to the bunch sprint in the front group.
Stage 8 might be my favourite stage. It finishes uphill. Maybe I get the chance to lead there?
Stage 9 is a flat stage, with some climbing involved.
The last stage, Stage 10 is a criterium. This will be a mass sprint, for sure.

Really, really looking forward to my race. I won't have internet in the next days, there is some internet trouble in Malaysia right now. You will hear soon of me again.

See ya guys,
Henkjan Knol

Volta ao Algarve didn't went like we expected too, with the break holding 3 times on a sprinter stage, today was one of those days. Jérome Pineau was the stongest today beating Vorganov (Magners) and Jungels (Bulgari) that got 2nd and 3rd

Arrived in Oman - Heimdals Corner

So here I am in Oman ready for my very first race as part of the professional peloton.
It's a very nice view from the hotel, but I sure am happy that the room got aircondition! I mean it's like 25 degrees warmer than back home.
Sure is gonna take me a couple of days to get used to - good thing I'm not expected to do much before stage 5 anyway...

rnspeak.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Oman-place.jpg

I really like the team we sent here with Chris Anker, Luis León and Jesper. Yeah and then of course the sprinter-guys, but they're almost like another team...

Surprising Spanish win in Oman

I wasn't expecting to make a result update so soon, but Luis León surprised almost everybody (Lierse predicted it) with an victory at the second stage of Tour of Oman.

My job: Getting beaten up - Heimdals Corner

So just came back from stage 5 of Oman. This was the day I had to earn my spot on the team and I have to admit: It hurts like hell right now!!!

i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/UCPCL%20INFORMATION/5-006_zps0745af94.jpg

I spent most of the day near the front of the peloton protecting Luis León to make sure he had plenty of energy left for a strong finish. As you can see on the picture I did my job, but the roads was really too flat for my liking. So when the finish really started I was totally exhausted and just had to find my own rhythm getting to the finish.

Damn was those final few km torture! It all became OK though as I crossed the line to see Luis León on top of the scoreboard - for the 3rd time already in this race!

I don't mind busting my ass off when I have a captain of this class.

TCS doing an amazing job at Oman

As you know, I already travelled to Malaysia with a few guys. It turns out that they do have internet. Isn't that fantastic? Pfft
While we were preparing, the team was racing in both Oman & Qatar. While they didn't do much in Qatar, the team is doing a great job in Oman. Luis Léon grabbed the amazing amount of three stage-wins. 2 wins were even at the flat! He also convincingly grabbed the GC win. Besides Luis Léon, Pim Ligthart is doing a good job too, with a few Top 10s.
i1214.photobucket.com/albums/cc489/sutty68/UCPCL%20INFORMATION/5-013_zps5ecbf2f7.jpg

Here's a picture of Sanchez grabbing his third stage win, on the finish line of the stage to the 'Green Mountain.'

It's a pleasure to tell you that TCS is now third on the Continental ranking. We'll do everything to get on top, but that will be hard. Maintaining this position is a hard enough job. I hope I can help the guys with that.
My first race, Langkawi gets really close now. I keep you guys informed!

See ya guys,
