Here is a question about pulling back a breakaway.
How do you get the Peloton to go faster and pull back the break? I usually send several of my riders up to the front for a short relay and then increase their effort meter. Will this make them ride faster or does their effort only go up to the effort meter if that is necessary to keep up with the group? Should I set them on steady effort instead or should I attack trying thus forcing the group to speed up or get left behind? Also it is possible to slow down the Peloton? If I have a guy out in the break then slowing down the group would be a nice tactic to use if it was available. I know in real life there are ways to slightly slow down the group and I don't just mean not working at the front.
Hope this makes sense, I am not sure if I am explaining the question right.

When your guys are in the lead of the pelaton (as opposed to riding behind guys from other teams) the pelaton will pretty much match the speed your team produces at the front. (or at least it seems that way to me). Much of the time it's easier to stick one of your guys in the breakaway since the AI will always try to chase it down if you do. If you have a guy you're using to target mountain points you'll often want to be in the breakaway anyway.
As for slowing down the pelaton, I'm not sure. When I make a late attack with 10km to go or so, I usually use a couple of guys to "lead out" my attacker (one attacks, the next counter attacks and the primary guy counters the second... gives me a slightly longer attack time). When the two initial attackers fade back to the group I try to set them to short relay at about 85-90% (I assume the pelaton is chasing at 95% to 99%). Sometimes (though not always) they'll stay at the front and perform a short relay at a slower speed than the pelaton would otherwise travel as opposed to dropping back to the pack which would happen at a lower effort. I figure it MIGHT give me another second or two... though I couldn't prove it.

Thanks for the info! Also I have noticed in several posts including yours how people say the computer will always chase down a break away if you are in it. This seems like an area that needs to be fixed in the next patch or next version of the game. The CPU should decide to chase or not chase based on how "dangerous" a rider is, not whether he is human controlled. The CPU should not have a bias toward human players except maybe at the hardest difficulty settings.
