Pendleton's are known to be searching for a GT leader and members of the press have noted Benat Intxausti's potential availability and the fact that he fits the bill. He would reportedly be given full support at the Vuelta and would also be allowed his choice of the rest of his calendar. On being asked about it , Pendleton's commented that "Intxausti is clearly a fantastic rider and as such we would be very interested, especially as we try to improve our GT results. A jump from 13th at the Vuelta this year to the podium or even the victory with Benat would be great. Of course though, it depends on Vesuvio, on Benat and on other teams, although we would definitely make Benat at home here and give him our full support."
The media are now awaiting the comments of the Vesuvio staff on the subject. |

Rider Interest
We welcome the interest in Uran and Intxausti from three of our ProTour colleagues. All teams will have a fair opportunity to buy the riders should they become available - except of course, any teams that may have already upset the team prior to that in the transfer period - and we hope to know relatively soon into the transfer period whether their availability can be confirmed.

Intxausti on the way out?
New rumours have emerged that after 5 seasons riding for Vesuvio-Accumalux, Benat Intxausti is eyeing the exit. Fueled by rumours of Vesuvio pursuiting a random Luxembourgian climber, and the need for a change, it is thought that Intxausti could leave regardless of other Vesuvio moves in the transfer window.

I wonder who that could be... Maybe a rider affiliated with the now folded Domina Vacanze outfit?

Wiggle Professional Cycling Team were quick to quash rumours linking Benat Intxausti to the team, citing significant differences in team and rider goals for the future.
"Although Benat is a riding of supreme ability, his disinterest in performing on Italian soil is a concern to the team. With the sponsors paying for results in front of the Italian Tifosi, having a team leader who doesn't care much for pleasing the fans would not shed the team in a good light"
When asked if the team were interested in any other riders on the Vesuvio-Accumalux team, management were keen to divert attention away from the topic.
"Uran? What does he do? Is he a mechanic?"

Riders renewed - but some will be on their way
Today was Renewals day in Luxembourg with each rider allocated a morning, afternoon and evening slot from the team management. Except Frank Schleck, who is away on holiday but granted the team management an hour of his time via telephone which management gratefully accepted.
Rigoberto Uran was quick to agree a deal and by lunchtime he was leaving Luxembourg far behind to return to his home in Italy. His future is uncertain with the squad, but today we can reveal that the future is more certain for fellow climbers Benat Intxausti and Maxim Iglinski.
Both agreed deals - although management were not too impressed by Intxausti's demands - but both have also accepted the fact that they will not be riding for Vesuvio in 2013. Both riders will be sold by the team in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, three riders will enter the free agency having not been offered deas. Long time servants of the squad Drasutis Stundzia and Luxembourg Time Trial champion Nick Clesen leave the team, while stagiare Tom Schwarmes was not offered a full deal.

I just saw this, and am now tempted to sign Intxausti as my leader for the Giro
If only Madrazo had left me with spare cash.

What will we want for riders?
We are looking for riders capable of forming a reliable leadout train for Ben Swift, or money. However, any form of rider trade is also always of interest, as are deals involving us loaning in a rider for ProTour experience.

CSC-Orbea would like to inquire about the possibility of a Intxausti -> Maksimov swap? It would fulfill both sides manager's are looking for since you need a leadout man for Swift as suggested. Plus I wouldn't get stuck in the stressful battle for Abal. Do the Pro Tour Champions have any thoughts on this possibility?

Maksimov is too expensive for us for a rider that is woeful on any hill. He wouldnt be able to form part of a reliable lead out train that we are searching for, he is the definition of an unreliable sprinter

Yeh, I could throw some money away and get him to 54 mountain and 55 hill.... I wouldnt want him even if his wage was 50k. Gullible managers who might fall for your Maksimov marketing *might* be found in the Continental division, but even there they might not exist

I assume Enrico Gasparotto could pretty much define "reliable leadout"...
And he's probably available.
But even if it's Uran or Intxausti, it would take a whole lot to trade my most important rider (besides Bennati himself) for reaching 5 goals away just to lead out one of the 3 most dangerous guys to prevent us from achieving these goals...
It's very tempting, and I leave this topic for now with that slight insinuation of an offer

I cant see such a deal happenging Whether or not you want to keep Gasparotto, we won't be able to match the wages you have offered him, so he isnt an option we are looking at.

How does Jure Kocjan, the dominant winner of the Tour of Channel Islands before the likes of Cavendish, sound?
In all seriousness, is Steegmans (450k) appealing, or to expensive?

Hehe, his wage is the reason why I'm not that reluctant to sell him anymore
Completely understandable, I had other GT riders in my mind anyways.

Vesuvio are trying to refrain from too much specific transfer talk as transfers obviously havent started yet.
All riders named so far as leadout options all hold wages notably in excess of what a team such as ours is willing or able to spend on a flat lands domestique.
