[PCT]Team UPC - Boehringer-Ingelheim | [2013]
tyriion
Yes, the big guns are really hard to come by and I'm afraid I'll end up without a top notch leader. But these riders are value for money, reasonably priced and they will keep me in PCT. After that I'll build up. No way to get a big name + support in your first year. At least as far as I can see. Maybe someone will prove me wrong.

Team UPC signs a star and more support

Transfer news is flying around as over 60 teams try to fill their rosters. The UPC - Boehringer-Ingelheim squad has added 3 new riders to their roster. And one of these 3 is an absolute star, being a world champion in TTT.

Kai Reus
With him in the squad the team is guaranteed to do well in shorter stage races with maybe some hills and definitely a TT.

Francesco Gavazzi
Another tough Italian for the squad who combines hill skill with a fast finish.

Eugert Zhupa
The oyung Albanian has a future as a cobbled domestique and as such he will get the chance to ride for our team. His first years will be spent gathering experience and later on he will be a valuable helper.

Another day another signing

Once again Team UBI add to their roster. Today Danny van Poppel signed a one year deal with the wannabe sprint squad. While UBI couldn't sign an established sprinter so far it looks like they hit a future fastman with Danny.

Leader and future leader on board for Team UPC

This morning manager tyriion had to new signings to confirm.

Tom Veelers
Tom will rejoin Jan Hopman and Bobbie Traksel from Koppert Cycling. Tom will be our leader on cobbled stuff. His strong sprint will force opponents to attack from further out. This is one rider who featured high on Team UPCs shortlist ever since Koppert folded.

Mike Teunissen
Mike looks like he has a great future ahead of him. He's already quite proficient on cobbled terrain, but can still improve a lot. He will be able to learn a lot from guys like Traksel and Veelers.

More young talent joins the team

At the end of this weekend manager tyriion had more signings to announce.

Dylan Groenewegen
The biggest talent the Netherlands have to offer, sprintingwise. Needless to say manager tyriion is overjoyed at getting the signature from the young Dutchman

Christian Knees
Christian was brought in from airBaltic to strengthen the cobbled squad, after Trentin left to Project 1T4I for one year on a loan deal. His experience will hopefully rub off on younger riders.

Michiel Elijzen
Another TTT worldchamp joins the team with Elijzen. He should be the perfect lieutenant for Reus and maybe get some chances himself. This isn't a full announcement however, as there still remain some details to be cleared up.

Transfer season almost done

Manager tyriion of Team UPC B-I announced today that the final roster will be ready soon. There are still some minor changes taking place, but soon the final team will be presented.

Asked about the possibility of taking on stagiaires he had the following to say;

We have several young riders in a full contract and we have to think about relegation as well. So this year there will be no stagiaire spots available. We will have to fight for every point.

I don't like to see Groenewegen in your team, but I'll be rooting for ya Wink

And it's done!

With the transfer of Manuel Ortega to JK Cycling and the signing of Michael Schwarzmann the transfer season is officially over for Team UPC Boehringer-Ingelheim. Expect the full roster somewhere today.

Your team have the look of Koppert about them, I only hope you can do a little bit better than them! Good luck Smile

Yeah, quite some riders I picked up from FA. Maybe not the best strategy, but I like the flavor it has now. And with the nice talents it can grow a bit as long as I survive in between.

UBI management reveal 2013 calendar

In a press release today Team UPC - Boehringer-Ingelheim revealed which races they will race this season. No comments were made on specific line ups. All manager tyriion had to say was: I can't tell you right now which rider will race where. Everyone can make assumptions like Veelers will ride E3 prijs, or Reus will be the captain for the Tour of the Czech Republic, but we won;t confirm anything for the time being. Maybe the captains for each race will be revealed at a later time, or in-depth interviews with individual riders will be made.

Obviously we will see each other in lots of races. 30+ race clashes.
So looking forward for the fight for best Dutch/German team. Wink

Tour de Vineyards is a New Zealand race btw.

tyriion
Ah thanks. And we will meet loads yes, but I probably will get close to relegation so no doubt who has the better team. Only goal is to be better than worst 5 Pfft

I may be just a CT team, but I think we'll meet in almost every C1 race I requested.

27 race clashes, with the team I would have been like without Napo. Good luck, you have some brilliant leadout men but no top sprinter Wink

Yes, give me my team leader! This season will prove whether it's better to get a leader first and support after or the other way around. Napolitano should do very well regardless and I'll prolly end up working for him anyway. But hopefully my sprinters will be able to pick up some podiums after the big guns and save my season. Then I'll get a leader next year and kick ass Pfft

Down Under Classic

The first race of the season is one that counts big. The Australian HC sprint classic will see the big sprinters of the PCT battle it out on a flat route.

The team line up can't be revealed yet, but one name has been announced. Dylan Groenewegen will start off his pro career in a big race.

I
Dylan, congratulations on signing a nice contract this winter and starting the season early in a big race. What do you expect for this race and the rest of the season?

D
Thanks, I'm really excited about it all. Ever since the manager told me I could race in Australia I've been really happy. The weather is so much nicer here, it being summer and all, so hopefully this will give me a nice start into the season. For this race, and every race this season, my role will be to help our sprint leaders. It could be Tom (Veelers), Boy (van Poppel) or Mirko. I won't have any chances this year, but I'm fine with that. The manager has told me I can just gather experience this season and I will probably get some chances next year.

I
This winter you had the opportunity to sign with several teams, why did you choose UPC?

D
Well, not only did they make the best financial offer, but also it's a Dutch team with a focus on flat terrain. That's just perfect for me as I expect to lead the team in a few years time. I really look at it in the long term and I feel this team will be built around me if I can justify this.

I
One final question, you said you won't get chances this year, but what about the Tour de l'Avenir?

D
Indeed, I will start there. And if there are any sprinting chances me and Danny (van Poppel) will have great support. The two of us will have to decide during each stage who feels best. But that's a long way off anyway. I want to gather experience first and if that puts me into a position where I can win a race, all the better.

Great little preview there. I'm sure Groenewegen will start to win races before too long.

Thanks! JJ Navarro managed the grab a win last year too, even though that was D2. Groenewegen has better stats so I have high hopes. Most importantly he will become 3.00 so it's next year where he can start paying back.

Update to the calendar. Included leader names for every race. Interviews with some designated leaders will probably follow at a later point.
